  1. Here I thought I POd the OP, was wondering how, don't even know him. :waving:
  2. Cost vs effort = pay to have it done. If you must, the windshield knife is only good for getting bad windshield out. It will break the good glass. For getting good ones out , I use bicycle cable with 2 or 3 strands taken out to give the cable some "bite." Suggest doing this in a garage or on a warm sunny day, the heat makes cutting old sealant easier.
  3. Last XJ I bought was a 95, complete, rolled, 4.0, AX-15, 231, 150k mi. $200 bucks. XJs are a dime a dozen and very plentiful.
  4. Find a used AW4, pull the pan, look at the fluid and inside bottom of pan. Bright clean fluid, even at 300 bucks probably means a good used tranny with a lot of miles left in it. Brown fluid, burned smell......well you know the deal. If a JY won't let you inspect/pull the pan, move on to somebody who will. can't really see paying the cost of a rebuilt tranny on a truck that's probably worth less than the rebuild. I know we all love our trucks, but I can tell when it's money we're talking about (mine) and who wants it, them. Save your money for your other toys........
  5. Thanks for the help, see what this guy says.
  6. :agree: On an AW4, I've heard unreal stories of their toughness and longevity. Myself, I wouldn't bother with a rebuild, there are too many of them out there that can be had for cheap. My 2 cents.
  7. XJs and MJs have a lot of "extra" plugs, that is why a lot of things like intermittent wipers are so easy to install. I would do a function check see what don't work like ? Under my MJs dash probably got at least 3 or 4 plugs that go nowhere.
  8. What can those be found in/out of?
  9. If you can get it for cheap or free you should take it. Always good for sale trade or barter.
  10. You mean I need a dial indicator to put an engine together?
  11. I like the loaner tool idea, except the nearest chain store that loans tools is 100+ mi away. I Don't mind buying tools, just wish I could get the GF to see that buying me Jeep parts or tools would really make me happy. Besides what good is the shirt (she bought me) to me in the shop except to wipe my hands on? :dunno: :rotf: Women never understand what makes a man happy. Gift wise. Me, Jeep parts and toys, I mean tools.
  12. I don't know....... Look what a person could get in NM. for 3K........ viewtopic.php?f=24&t=19538&start=0 If I wasn't so invested in my 87, I'd be all over this. Thousand miles or not. Well maybe.....
  13. No engine builders? I'm probably gonna buy the higher $ universal cam bearing install kit then. Oh well, just add it to all those other cool wood and plastic boxes in the tool shed.
  14. Rear corner of front doors foreward.
  15. Buff right out!...... :rotf:
  16. But where are the installed pics of this?
  17. Thats :(
  18. 87 Sportruck - Black interior 88 MJ Chief - Blue interior What about black? It's Sinister, Bad *ss , Cool. The 87 is going to have a red/black theme. Anybody remember when the glass guy tore up my black dash? And he couldn't understand why I was so pissed. Kind of like black and chrome on my Harley....... :dunno: Just somethin about black.......
  19. As the title says.
  20. First off this is my first engine build, it will be going into the 88 MJ. Just scored a bare 96 4.0 block, fresh from the machine shop. Crankshaft, machine work done. Cylinder head, machine work done, valves, and springs assembled ready to go. $620 delivered. Right off the bat I see that freeze plugs and cam bearings haven't been installed. I don't have a problem with the freeze plug install, but have a couple of questions on the cam bearing install. Before anybody says "best let the machine shop do it" I say it ain't happening. I did my own ring & pinions last summer, D30 and 8.8. I'm sure I can handle this. So I'm looking into buying a cam bearing install tool, here is my quandary. Do I need a whole universal set, or does anybody know the 4.0 bore diameter vs a SBC bore diameter. There are SB Chevy tools out there that can be had for +/- $40 bucks if the Chevy tool will work for installing the Jeep cam bearings. Or should I just bite the bullet and buy a universal set for about a hundred bucks? I know where there is a FS Cherokee laying on it's side up against a tree 258 cid. Wouldn't take much to nab the crank out of it :brows:
  21. See rule # 3 viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1239
  22. Color?
  23. If you still have the bench seat, you still have the brackets that you need. Doesn't cost you a thing but your time, then possibly sell your bench. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/view ... f=9&t=8093
  24. Any XJ, 2 0r 4wd, doesn't matter.
  25. I hate to see any buildable MJ scrapped for another to run. Trade the rough HO MJ for a donor HO XJ and everybodys happy. Then use the HO XJ to update the 88.
