Ok here goes, this is something I've attempted searching for a time or two. Matter of fact I got as far as cutting a hole in the floor of the 87, taking an XJ handbrake bolting it to the floor and was going to attempt adapting the 8.8 cables to the hand lever. Now my questions: 1. First pic is of a WJ (Grand Cherokee) hand lever? and the piece that was cut off of the MJ assembly (I get that part). 2. Second pic is of the WJ MJ pieces fastened together. 3. Bottom side of the WJ lever assembly that is not needed. Am I to understand that if I used this method, I wouldn't have had to cut a hole in my floor, and I would be using the stock MJ e brake cable coming into the cab in the stock location, and would have been stock from the exterior of the cab back (except for the 8.8)? OK how do I add the smiley of me beating my head against a brick wall?........

Got the 87 460mi away. the guy even put it on his trailer and bought it to my house for an extra $150, he wanted to go for a road trip, and was a real nice guy. Myself, if I wasn't sure, I would road trip on the bike (weather permitting) or take a fuel efficient car to go look at it. Always look for fun reasons to road trip. Now if you travel a long ways to get an MJ and drive it back, remember "it aint an adventure unless something happens" best of luck and goferit.

TIME to work on the 87, hopefully get the old motor pulled, interior gutted, prep for HO conversion. Possibly get the new motor done (assembled). Got so many boxes of parts and pieces, don't really need to buy much more for it (GF really happy about that) what with school, a job, and being a single parent, my MJ addiction always seems to come last. Best part of my addiction is that I get to drive the Chief anytime I want....

Believe it or not, but Facebook does have uses for some of us older non conformists. I was able to reconnect with a few people I haven't heard from in years. My community has a "on line yard sale", most items are sold very quickly. Our tribe has a public page (not sanctioned by the tribe) that posts events, rumors and general items of interest. So yeah, FB does have uses for older people like me, besides having a FB account allows me to see what my children and family are up to, keeps us connected.

Comanche Spotted On University Of Southern Mississippi Campus

If I "hovered" around your girlfriend for a while (when you weren't around) then left a note would that be OK? -

Your pretty brave writing down the vin of a truck which doesn't belongs to you and belongs to a guy you don't know or didn't talk to first. Kind of like trying to get the guys girlfriend's phone #, but we all know that is minor (getting phone #) compared to getting a # off of a strangers truck. IMHO I'd rather take my chances with the guys girlfriend over messing with his MJ. They must do things different in Mississippi, but here in MT.... Myself, I get upset if I see anybody hovering around any of my vehicles, for whatever the reason, if I don't know them. My rule, just like for my woman...look and admire from a distance, but keep hands off and definitely no phone # lol. -
Grounds - engine to frame, battery, body? Since the elec problems are at the engine, I would double check engine harness connections.

Pinion Depth Gear Pattern
64 Cheyenne replied to 64 Cheyenne's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sorry, should have said 8.8, so no set up bearings on the carrier. 1) Set pinion preload usually between 14 and 19 in/lb 2) check BL usually between .006 and .009 thou 2) then check pattern Using set up bearings for the pinion. -
Put it in and out about a million times already... Went from zero depth to .043 no joy, this is .031 Suggestions? And yes I do have the proper tools for this job, so lets not go there... Thanks

I wouldn't use one of those on good glass...it's real easy to try and hurry, muscle, or pry with it, then ^%$*! I would use that to get the old glass out, maybe practice on the old glass see if you can get it out without further cracking before you use it on the good glass. Suggest a bicycle cable with a few strands removed for bite over that. FWIW, the smell from the roof grade sealant finally went away after nearly a year...Next time I'll pay $$ for the good sealant. -

I agree especially if there is any rubber sticking out the front or back. (must be smooth/flat)

AX 15 Internal External Slaves

I don't see the spring clips on each end of the throw out fork. -
Went wheeling yesterday (gumbo mud) went about five miles in 4lo, engine starting to get hot, nearing another uphill, decide to stop, pushed in the clutch and to the floor it went. Smoke starts coming out from under the hood, luckily no fire (FWIW I do keep a fire extinguisher in all my vehicles). Seems that the engine got so hot that it melted the plastic clutch line. I have done a AX-15 conversion (external) hence the plastic line. So I guess I'm asking for opinions on the fix. I could replace it with another plastic line but the way I wheel, this would definitely be a weak link. I'm hoping I can cut the line and replace the burned part with compression fittings and a section of brake line for a temp fix (will this work?) till I find the best solution. I know Advance Adapters has a kit for TJs, not sure about what they have for XJ/MJ. Not sure what year the tranny came out of but it has the pin fittings at the master and slave. Suggestions?

Your on here to learn,... best way I've found to "learn something" is by doing it. My suggestion is research, gather parts and tools, enlist the help of your Jeepin buddy and have at it. Getting the unit bearing off is only a b##### if you let it be, (needs more research). The U-joint can be dealt with numerous ways, again, research to make it easy for you. Sounds like you could deal with the rest easy enough, I suggest save the coin and do it yourself.

Loud squeaking from water pump pulley
64 Cheyenne replied to Tyson's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Belt dressing = belt death in a can. Dressing is a band aid for other problems, old glazed belt etc. Belt dressing breaks the rubber down on the surface for better bite, really means time for a new belt.
