  1. I see it too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0810590299
  2. it's that blotchy red stuff you see on pics of the midwestern trucks. :rotf:
  3. careful with those bolts if you live in a rust-prone zone. they like to snap right off with no warning. :( spraying PB Blaster inside the frame to get at the threads is a must.
  4. that's great!
  5. or it could be the most awesome thing EVER!!! :D
  6. factory front mounts suck. they are only good for hold up an bumper and waiting for a crash. no good at all for yanking on to get you out of the mud. rear mounts are a bit better, but I did the same thing for mine, front and rear. I know there are aftermarket rear brackets out there. don't remember who made them though. these are the ones I built, but I imagine you can get aftermarket ones by now. (bent by the same shop from which I bought the steel) this shot was taken during mockup so the pin hole for the hitch hasn't been drilled yet. built my own clevis thingie. :D and I put the pin on the backside. My truck will never tow, so I built everything to work together, not caring if it might not work with aftermarket stuff. If you want to use aftermarket stuff, you'll need to take that into account. also, be very mindful of the square tubing you use. towing hitches flop around a bit in regular 2x2 tube. fine for offroad-only stuff, but less than perfect for towing. try to get your hands on the receiver-specific stuff if you intend to tow.
  7. oh, I saw "WJ" and didn't notice the "98". 98s are ZJs and require no trimming. 99+ would be WJs and the steel bushings are slightly wider than MJs.
  8. big pipe wrenches have been used, as have used ratchet straps. I assume you trimmed the steel bushings on the LCAs?
  9. I really like mine. brutishly simple and tough. :D built them with essentially an angle grinder and a drill, then had a local welder finish them up for 20 bucks. 2" hitch in the middle of both, 1/4" steel for the brackets. grille guard is from a CJ.
  10. as nice as that would be, sadly no. gears need to be "set up" to run properly (a quick search for that should give you the details). it's not cheap, and not really good for beginners to tackle. one of the few things that I will happily leave to the pros. But that's not to say that i won't go out of my way to avoid paying for it. :D I prefer junkyard axles with the gears already in them. way cheaper and way easier. :) (unless you're looking for a ratio that doesn't exist out there)
  11. doesn't matter much since he put a reserve on it. :dunno:
  12. :fs2:
  13. good to know. I had been told different. thanks! any difference in the 10.5 between early suerduties and later superduties? do Excursions have the same 10.5?
  14. 91 got the new grille.
  15. certainly. I doubt 37" tires are enough to find the relative strength difference between the two.
  16. the 14 bolt is a good axle. you just need a ford dana 60 up front to match and those can be tough to find and costly when you do find them. :( if you have any super duty Fords in your corner of the globe, the Dana 60/10.5" is a good combo too. Even the earlier super duty Dana 50/10.25 will work. you just have to get rims that match the funky metric 8 bolt pattern. nothing along those lines is cheap unfortunately. :(
  17. envious. and jealous. I soooooooo want to get into R/C. loved building models as a kid. too poor though. :( gotta live vicariously through others I guess. :D
  18. what size tires will you be using? is your truck currently 4wd? the rear likely has the chevy 6 bolt wheel pattern, which limits you to Chevy front axles, which don't work. :(
  19. chevy front axles have the differential on the passenger side.
  20. Oooooooo... very nice...
  21. I would definitely make an offer first.

I'll be swinging by the closest scrap yard later today (would have on saturday but they were closed) to ask about the 3 aluminum boat props I had. then I'll be passing that on to the cops. would be hiLARious if that's what gets them caught. :rotf: I like the security bar idea. should be able to work up something along those lines. My uncle is an avid hunter. I'll see if he has a trail cam.

good thought, but the problem with a trail camera is they will see the flash, and then steal my camera. :( I'd still have to guard it all night long.
  24. in your XJ?
  25. the 95 dakota isn't unique, but is inside the right time frame. Any YJ line will work for the front, so just tell them a 95 dakota and a 95 wrangler and you'll be good.
