why don't you just buy a decent kit?

we'll have to see what comes out of it, but we'll be trying to keep the emphasis on the truck.

what size tires? mostly city or mostly highway? how fast do you normally drive on the highway?

how do you plan to use the truck? size of tire? how much budget do you have?

I prefer a non-competitive MJofM. no voting, no contest, no stacking the deck or stuffing the ballot. Simply once a month an MJ is chosen and its backstory and details are highlighted. It'll probably be a sticky in the Pub and prior months will be moved to a gathering spot (not sure where yet). any truck could be chosen, the only requirement is some decent photos (gotta have something to look at afterall). Calendars might be a challenge, but I'll leave that for a later discussion since it'll be a while before we have 12.

I'm not too entirely familiar with brackets of the ZJ rear axle. what are the chances that the 2 are even remotely interchangable? (without removing everything and starting from scratch of course).

A muddy MJ is a happy MJ. :D except in those rust holes. be sure to wash them out. :thumbsup:

got a fan shroud? E-fan?

tru dat. semi-common in TJs too. but both models are low pinion (and ZJs sometimes came with CV joints) I guess it all depends on what you want to do with the truck.

4.0 +5SPD = 3.07 3.73 gears are fairly hard to find in an XJ dana 30. don't buy a rear without getting your hands on a front (unless the truck will remain 2wd of course).

only the front axle is vacuum actuated. your t-case is lever actuated. Just yank out all of that vacuum harness and cap the last port leading to the engine. :thumbsup: this site should help with the details: http://www.jeeptech.com/convtrans/ax15swap.html

Yup, I would yank the entire carpet out. the padding underneath is what rots our floors.

MJs almost always rot from the inside out. you have to care for them with that in mind. you've got a water leak in the cab somewhere so the carpets are probably soaked underneath. And make sure you clean the little ledge right behind the sheetmetal above the rear flares. dirt gets trapped there and dirt attracts moisture which causes the bed rot that so many MJs have.

8.8s are pretty common in 4.10, frequently with posi (but don't get posi if you want a lunchbox locker instead).

chances are good that they pushed it. But they were kind enough to wash it for us. :D WFC (who is attempting to retake the record from an S-10) was the one that managed to pull whatever strings to get the inspection of the original truck.
