started rigging up some 'lectric in the garage today.....well, not me but my Jeep buddy Danny. We lifted his Rubicon yesterday, and I brought him back two 30 packs of IC Light and a couple pounds of chipped ham with a bottle of Islay's sauce when we went to PA last week (it's a Pittsburgh thing if you don't understand ;) ). We ran EMT from the box back to the workbench and installed two 20A duplex outlets (each on a seperate breaker) there, and dropped two duplex outlets below the box in the front of the garage. We offset those becuase we're going to drop in a 220 outlet beside it down the road, and we're gonna rewire my bootyfab overhead lights too. Did all this in about 2 hours, then went to Hooters for lunch with the rest of the club that showed up to drink and watch us work...... oil on my air filter.....

Yes, it's steel....and you hear a bit more valvetrain noise with it (if that matters to you). Changeover was '97 model year. Jeff -
Thinking of SOA'ing the '89
mjeff87 replied to XJs4Ever's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ditto, that's the way I'm running mine currently. I've got a set of RE perches for the tube, just haven't gotten around to welding them on yet. Shocks are Monroe something-or-others for a stock Taco......way short and way cheap, too :D Jeff Image Not Found Image Not Found -
Project Garyindiane's 89MJ (Down for maintenance )
mjeff87 replied to garyindiane's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
that cargo rack is exactly what I want to build for mine, 'cept I want it to sit on top of the bedrails, and I'm gonna cover the frame in extruded steel. Very nice..... Jeff -
Project "Grandpa Jeep" (the anti-build)
mjeff87 replied to jpnjim's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Mine was a grandpa-mobile when I got it too (the gentleman passed away, sadly, and his widow couldn't stand seeing it sitting in the driveway as it kept reminding her of him). Only had an AM/FM radio, rubber cargo mat, and the PO made his OWN tonneau cover out of plywood and blue tarping material. Did a one-off custom security lock for it which consisted of a padlock and fencegate hasp that he drilled right into the tailgate  Thank you, Bill Everett (very 1st Fire Chief of the West Point VFD in Westmoreland Co, PA), may you RIP... have fun with your build Jim Jeff -
^^^I had a cue ball as a shift knob on mine, just drilled a hole a bit smaller than the stud and screwed it on. The stud cut the threads into the innards of the 'ball. Then the a**hole neighbor kids stole it one day...... Jeff

Internal slave hyd line?
mjeff87 replied to garyindiane's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would suggest that when you do find/make a line and replace those, don't use those little U shaped thingies to hold the flared end into the slave. Either replace them with cotter pins or modify them somehow.......I had one back out about a week after I installed the AX15 into mine, and the line popped out of the slave. Had to take the whole #&%$! tranny back out, for the sake of a .02c clip :fs1: I now use cotter pins: Image Not Found Jeff -
swing off the interstate and pick me up along the way Bob.....I'll come along and drink beer while I watch you guys do all this work :D Jeff

I changed the mount a bit and trimmed the top of the stick, and got my SWR's a bit better, but still have more work to do. I'm now pulling just a hair under 2 on ch1, about a .8 on 19, and about 1.3 on 40. I don't think it's gonna get any better than that with the el cheapo stick I have.....gonna go pick up a 4' Firestick from the truckstop in the morning. Jeff

yeah, coolant enters the manifold at the back, there's an angled fitting that a hose slips over. It then exits the front of the manifold, and goes back to the thermostat housing area IIRC. But, there is a block drain plug toward the rear of the block, a bit above and behind the motor mount on the driverside. It's just a regular pipe plug (3/8 coarse thread, I think). Betcha that's where your leak is. Try to skinny a 3/8" ratchet up in there and see if you can snug that plug up. It's just like the drain plug on a D35, the ratchet head slips into the plug. Lemme see if I can find a side pic of my 4.0 block when I rebuilt it....it has the same plug in the same spot. Jeff

I've got 2 incandescent bulb sockets (for now, anyway) in the ceiling, and I'm piggybacking (ala redneck engineering) three suspended 2-bulb 4' T12 fixtures off the ceiling, two centered and the third one sort of overtop of the workbench area. Plus a small T8 fixture under the shelf above the bench. Until Danny and I run wiring and I hard wire the flourescents, and add three more fixtures. I know T12's are being phased out, but Lowe's has the fixtures for $8, and I bought a contractor pack of bulbs so I'll have replacements for a long time to come. I'll get a night shot after work tonight....it's brighter than it sounds ;)

I'm about done hanging shelving (well, maybe a bit more on the other wall where the ladders are now hanging :D ). It's been too cold to paint down here lately, but I am going to do the walls shortly. It's nice working with them the way they are now.....I can see where all the studs and joists are LOL  Thanks for the compliments guys. Oh, and my wife's hatboxes are now (in)famous here and another local forum I'm on  . I'm surprised you guys knew what they were...... Jeff

Rigged up more shelving above the garage door today….my Jeep buddy Danny the electrician stopped by and we had several beers planning out how we’re gonna run all the ‘lectric (2 outlets back on the bench, plus a 110 and a 220 outlet up in the front below the panel). So nice to have another STEELER brother down here (he’s from McKeesport originally ) Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found

yeah, I'm not transmitting with it (just a quick mic check or two to make sure TX works...). I'll fully tune the antenna once I get it mounted in a better location and have the correct length cable for it. I may run down to the Pilot service center (it's nice living right off I95) and pick up a 3 or 4 ft Firestick, too. Jeff

Not glamorous tech, but I rigged up a new CB today. Mounted it where the ashtray was. Temporarily mounted the antenna on the side of the toolbox because I only had 9' of antenna cable to work with....will be moving it to the rear bumper shortly. I'm also going to mount a remote speaker either between the visors or on the back cabwall under the rear window, between the buckets. it's BLACK and GOLD...... 'nuff said  Jeff

while you're sitting there warming up the engine, pop the TC into neutral and throw the tranny into either second or third gear.....this gets the gear lube churning and warming up some. Won't cure hard shifts completely, but it does help some even if it's only a minute or two. Jeff
