  1. :agree: . I'm not a big fan of AutismZone, but am a big fan of their higher end batteries. Now you can take the $$ you saved by not buying an overpriced Optima batt and splurge on something you'd really like for your MJ but don't really need. :D 'Cause you know that Duralast yellow top will last at least five years; all four I have bought for my other vehicles lasted at least that long. For spillage worries inherent w. lead/acid batteries, the Duralast yellow tops come with an overflow hose attachment which I always extend down thru the battery tray should your alternator regulator crap out and the alt starts overcharging and boiling out the electrolyte, which has not happened yet. :D BTW Tom, did you get the Group 34 Duralast?
  2. JC Whitney doesn't sell the black Fey bumper anymore, only the chrome for way over $200. Good idea on using the stock brackets! :D
  3. Only kidding - black is fine, I just prefer chrome in case ya didn't know. ;) Here's an old pic of the rear tube bumper I had mounted for awhile. Just recently sold the bumper.
  4. I see you got the (ugh!) black bumper. :D But you're right, it'll look nice. Let us know how it fits up.
  5. You're welcome.
  6. be careful doing that, it may violate some laws to do that...i'm not sure, but check before doing it. it'd hate to see you being out more than you already are over this loser. I agree. Stupid though it is in this particular case, the guy could report you on harrassment charges.
  7. This is true..............
  8. Moral of the story: DON'T USE UPS, aka as UNITED PACKAGE SMASHERS!! They truly suck and are getting worse. I much prefer Fedex, or even USPS. :D
  9. Every 91 and up regulation HO Bosch pump I've seen is of a smaller size than the 90 and below regulation Bosch Renix pumps. However there were aftermarket pumps made for the HOs (Walbro, even some Bosch w. a different part number) that are sized differently than the OEM pumps. They usually make up for the size difference w. rubber collars and other adapters so it fits in the OEM sender. Go to the NAPA site and you can see there are maybe 5 or 6 different pumps available for the 91 4.0L MJ/XJ alone. I've had all these pumps out on their counter and each pump was a slightly different size than the OEM Bosch pump. Bosch supplys many US and foreign car makers their in-tank fuel pumps. If I could only get my hands on a Bosch in-tank fuel pump catalog, I'd be willing to bet there are several submersible models out there that are close enough in size and pressure/output specs that would work just fine in both Renix and HO MJs. Probably a lot cheaper too.
  10. This thread is like asking what's the best tire or the best the best motor oil. :D As long as there are a hundred or so choices out there, everyone has their own opinion based on personal experience and needs. That's good and healthy and makes for interesting reading, but I ain't seen anything to change my opinion and I'm a hardhead. One of the things I used to do working for the various armed forces overseas was to design and upgrade their 48VDC backup power supply systems in communications stations. The COMSTA's upgrades were always from lead/acid batteries to gell cells mainly because of the personnel downsizing that was going on. The gell cells needed far less maintainence, emitted less hazardous gasses like hydrogen thus required less ventilation, lasted longer than lead/acid batteries during emergency power situations, were less problematic in earthquakes, and did have a longer overall lifespan so the extra cost was justified. But I just can't see anything to justify the extra cost of a gell cell battery in a vehicle as long as it remains upright.
  11. Well Jeff that shows that the pressure and delivery of the HO pump works fine with the Renix engine. :D But the HO pump in the 88 Renix sender still will present problems mate. If it can be done that would be great and eliminate the polarity problem too.
  12. If you pulled the pump from a 92 that's an HO pump, an entirely different animal than the OEM Renix pump in your 88. I don't think it's going to work for you because of the size problems and the output pressure are different. You guys have NAPA stores in Canada - I'd recommend getting the below new. It has the OEM Bosch pump, strainer, and correct pressure and GPH specs for your rig. Unless you want to take a chance with a used Renix pump from the yard. Not worth it IMHO mate. http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=NFP&PartNumber=P74155&Description=Fuel+Pump+-+Electric+In-Tank+Type+-+OEM+Equivalent And yes, I've tested them in a bucket filled w. fuel using a 12V battery or charger source. Just be careful and have your switch a good distance away from the bucket. Don't run it dry.........
  13. Optima batteries are fine if you plan on running them upside down. Otherwise they're a waste of $$ IMHO. I agree with Tom on the Autozone Gold Top Duralast battery. Mine's coming up on seven years now and still going strong. :D But if you ask the parts drone at Autozone for one they'll look it up and sell you the 58-DLG (Group 58) battery, because that what the 96 and below XJ/MJs used. It's specs are 610 cold cranking Amps. BUT the newer 97 and up XJs used the 34-DLG (Group 34) battery. It's specs are 800 cold cranking Amps (1000 cranking Amps). The size difference is neglible, and the group 34 batteries fit just fine in our rigs w. no mods. And they are the same price, so it's a no-brainer. So if you don't care for the Autozone battery for some reason, and like Interstate or Exide or some other brand, ask for the Group 34 battery 'cause it's beefier, fits fine, and it's the same $$.
  14. There were differences in pumps in the early years between engines and models w. different gas tanks. All this was finally cleared up in 91 when the HOs arrived; then all models and tanks used the same pumps. I'm going to do a spreadsheet tomorrow regarding the swapability between 85-92 MJ/XJ senders, pumps, and tanks. And please guys, when aking a question regarding part compatibility, give the model year and engine (and fuel tank if applicable) when you post - it will save everyone guessing and putting out possible bum dope. And 100% agree w. CW regarding aftermarket pumps; they usually don't last long. And yes, I'm sure there are exceptions :D , but I always use the OEM Bosch pumps when replacing.
  15. What year and engine is your MJ?
  16. Hmm, just noticed that white "Rubicon" MJ has Euro side marker lights on it too.
  17. Not bad JT, but it droops; looks like exactly what it is, a bumper from something else. It's not wide enough either. I'd like to see the mounting bracketry and see if there is a reason for the droop or if it could not be helped w. the S10 bumper.
  18. Interesting. I posted this up last month HERE and no one bid on them. Now buyers are going crazy bidding on them. :huh???:
  19. The Westin 63000 (used to be Fey) bumper fits MJ and Dodge Dak rears, see below. I had one on my MJ when I first got it years ago. But you also need the MJ-specific bracket kit, also available from Amazon. http://frugalmechanic.com/auto-part/918075-fey-bumper-t1263000
  20. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007VNZMM?&tag=shopwiki-us-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325 $117.27 w. free shipping
  21. They can't even cash in on the power play - looks bad for the Wings.
  22. Subject: Rally Truck - need opinions on build Mmmmmmm, lucky you. And here I am stuck w. weak-a$$ Lortabs and Miller High Life for my acheing shoulder. :fs1: As far as disks on the 44, since I already have disks on the 35 all I have to do is p/u a couple of D44 backing plates from TeraFlex and swap everything over. And regear to 4.11 of course. :D And you're right, I do need my chain yanked periodically too.
  23. You could always look at it this way shawn. The guy liked your truck and used it. Afterall, Plagiarism is Best form of flattery. :D Yeah, I'd email the guy and tell him he owes you two sets of stripes for using your pic to help sell his product. :D
  24. Lighten up TNT, go grab a happy pill. I KNOW Pete gives excellent advice and I was just yanking his chain. Someone has to do it. EDIT: BTW, I pretty sure I scored a MJ D44 for myself today thanks to Pete and his car-parts.com site. $175, 3.55 ratio, and not too far away. The yard sent me the tag numbers and they cross correctly. He's also sending a pic of the diff cover Monday so I can be abslutely sure before going to pick it up.
  25. Pete broke one, and ever since it's the same never ending song, over and over and over and over. It's getting really tiresome............ Plenty of D44's and 8.8's break too for no obvious reasons too if you care to look around. Use the D35 and see what happens. Might just surprise you w. it's reliability. They are not terrible and/or made of glass as everyone says. For your application it will prolly be fine. Give it a shot, don't listen to the standard old line. :D
