  1. The ballast resistor is a high-watt low-ohm power resistor that drops voltage to the fuel pump so it will run quieter and last longer. It's supposed to get hot, real hot. That's why they are mounted in a porcelain housing.
  2. Thanks everyone. Gotta think this one over.
  3. Any OBDI year engine (91-95) will interchange with no problems. Normally to disarm and reset the security system, insert the key in the driver's door, turn left, then right, then remove. That's if the system is functioning. There's also another way, but you have to get into the wiring to disable it. Pretty easy though.
  4. I thought it was funny. :D People from WI have no sense of humor.
  5. :shake: Good Lord...........
  6. Here's all you need to know about hood vents, including the ZJ vents I had for awhile: http://gojeep.willyshotrod.com/HowtoBonnetVents.htm But none of them lower the enging compartment as well as a cowl hood.
  7. Went over there yesterday to close the deal, and the old guy says he's been thinking about it, and now wants $800 for the Laredo. He says that if I were to put it back on the road he'd let it go cheaper, but he doesn't want it parted out. :fs1: Well, it looks like it's going to sit in his driveway and slowly rot away like all the other stuff he has. What a shame...........

    Uh-oh.

Good luck Monday Dirt. Most of these outfits should dump 50% of the "upper management" non-producer types, make the others work, and leave the worker bees alone. But of course that never happens. :(

Hey Rick-man, good to hear from you after all these years. :D I know life gets in the way sometimes, but try to take a few minutes out to check in here and say hey.
  10. X3. And wheel-centric, like the SpiderTrax. :D

    Thanks dasbulliwagen. Appreciate it.
  12. I got mine here - best prices I could find: http://www.springsnthings.com/
  13. No, it's silver, just looks black. :D No Pete, I rolled it down just see if the regulators worked. Will do Bo. Don't have it yet. Old guy was hemming and hawing (sp?) over the price and will yak forever if you let him. Sharp as hell though. He's what we used to call a "non-finisher" in the Nav........ You know the type.

I'd like to, but do not have the room. Otherwise I'd probably collect them like the Wildman. Amazing how rust free the native MJ bodies are down here. As soon as daughter #1 graduates this year, gets commissioned, and enters the Army, and goes away, it frees up a stall in the garage for a good project MJ.

Thanks Fiat - UBD1! My eyes ain't what they used to be, along with some other things. :( I found two MJs in our little town today (this 88 Pioneer + the 87 Laredo) riding my thumper around through the low rent districts. :D This one has a perfect body, 4.0L Pioneer, 2WD, D35, bench.
  16. It wouldn't take much to put her back on the road. The old guy bought her new from Jasper Jeep in GA (the only new vehicle he ever bought new in his life), is kind of hurting financially, and has a lot of sentimental attachment to it. I'm going to see him tomorrow with the cash. All I want is the D44 really. I offered to give him my D35 with cash, but he doesn't want a 4.10 ratio. The old gent will never finish the MJ. He has some nice old Studebaker trucks around, a nice J30, and a 40 Ford coupe in various stages of disrepair. Even had a neat trailer he build back in the day using a cut down Hudson pickup bed w. a canopy. All he does now is work on the neighbor's lawn mowers occasionally. Kind of sad...............

Hmmm. Which digit is the check digit Fiat?

  19. Well, the overwhelming majority says yea, except JT of course. :D I'm just looking to get a free D44 and maybe pay for maybe half the regear. The bucket brackets ought to go for at least 100 bones, tailgate for 200, and the cargo light for 300, right?

    VIN Check

The 249624 is very clear on the registration. I'll take a speed run over there and look. :D

    VIN Check

1JTMW64P1JT249624 is what it says on the faded registration sheet I'm trying to read. I'll run back over there and take a look at the windshield tag. The bold "J" above may not be a J though........

Showing 145K on the clock. Can not get a build sheet anymore for this 88, right?
