well, for myself, the law is.... useful, but shouldn't apply to me. reason being, you never really want to call me when I'm driving, cause for the most part, i will ignore the conversation, and drive. kind of like listening to the radio while driving, thats about as distracted as i let myself get. BUT i accept that i am the exeption to the rule, and most people who talk om the phone driving are scary as hell.....

Axle nut question
the_wizard_of_fire replied to 88pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Cotter pins are a "once" use item, and should never be re-used  Correct. One or both legs gets bent over 180 degrees to lock it in place. By the time you bend it, straighten it out for removal, then bend it again -- it's pretty well work hardened and on the ragged edge of failing. I confess to having reused them in an emergency, but it really is a "NO-NO!" And no hubs come with cotter pins. The cotter pin is not part of the hub assembly, it's part of the stub axle assembly. Cotter pins are a "consumable" item in automotive repair shops. Tie rod ends sometimes come with replacements, but I can't remember anything else that does. If you don't have an assortment of cotter pins next to your toolbox, you're not a real Jeeper. i reuse cotter pins all the time, and actually have never had one break....(though i do realize its just a matter of time.... -

our trucks need an X pipe for backpressure, otherwise you might get different levels on either side, which would make it run funky.

I saw that and quite frankly I'm staggered by the amount of time it must have taken. Hats off to whoever painted that one. I do however plan on blacking my grille in the same manner On a side note I'm considering adding another color to the mix to bust up the p[pattern a bit more. Prolly something halfway between tan and off white. take off that crappy Y pipe and run true dual exhaust all the way back.

EXO cage tree protection...
the_wizard_of_fire replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
 have you built it yet? if not, i have a freakin sweet idea for you. you said you love the protection, but hate the look when on road, yes? rather than building something weaker for looks, build it strong, use your angle iron, with one side inside the bed, the other flat on top, and rather than bolting or welding it, get 6-8 canopy/topper clamps, and clamp it down on the trail, then take 'em off, toss 'em in the bed, and drive home! -
don't do '96. chrystler "improved" (screwed up) that year, so the electrical is really screwy in them.
-
straight pulling across a driveway or garage is fine to do by the axle. what you never want to do is try and pull either yourself or someone else out when they are stuck, or jerk on the axle.

well, it certainly is unique.... though i think i would have gone for steel or a nicely finished wood, rather than the smoker plastic....
