  1. That's the thing about an Audi, drive one and you'll buy one. I've driven Subaru's and while I found them to be a fine car it just wasn't in the same league with the Audi. My brother has had 4 BMW's and after driving my A4 he said he will never buy another BMW. They are that good. If you've never driven an A4 with Quattro you just wouldn't understand. Here's one of my favorite videos, a test up a ski slope. Watch what the Audi does (last part of the video)
  2. I used to have an Audi A4 Quattro 1.8 Turbo, GREAT car! Parts are a little pricey, but it was very reliable and the engineering/quality was fantastic. :clapping: I will definitely get another Audi in the future.

    My first MJ

Most folks say the Peugeot is pretty bad. My 1st XJ (I bought it new in 1988) had one though & I never had any problems in the 180,000+ miles I had it. Of course I do know how to shift........... :rotf:
  4. One here in Knoxville TN also. Pretty neat place, but I don't go there too much. I live 4 minutes from HOOTERS!! :D :D :D
  5. I agree. I'm doing my part. 87 MJ, 88 MJ, 88 XJ -- the "new" car in the family is my wife's 2000 XJ. But even the Renix-era Jeeps are throw-away engineering. My first car was a 1950 Hudson. If the starter or generator went bad, you replaced the bushings and/or brushes (or the "Bendix" drive on the starter), and kept on truckin'. You can't repair alternators or starters today -- you use it as a core to buy a replacement. Brake cylinder rebuild kits? Try to find one. Chinese wheel cylinders today cost less than the rebuild kits cost when I was a teen-ager. Doesn't make economic sense to rebuild a wheel cylinder -- not that you could find the tools even if you could find the kit. I guess growing up way back when (I'm 44) and rebuilding all my own starters, generators/alternators and the like seems like second nature to me. I haven't checked in a while but Pep boys used to carry kits to overhaul many different Starters and Alternators. I know that these folks still do: http://www.springhillautoelectric.com/ Most kits are still available should one want to rebuild it themselves. I rebuilt a Ford power window motor this morning, it cost me $14.00 with tax VS $65.00 for a rebuilt one. I got what I needed to do it at Pep Boys & it took about 5 minutes to rebuild. They carry wheel cylinder hones and rebuild kits too. Here are some rebuild kits available at Advance for my 88 Comanche: PN#SC113 Alternator Diodes PN#SC112 Alternator Rectifier PN#S-MNJ-417-S Alternator Commutator End Bearing PN#x311 Alternator Brush Set PN#11303 Wheel cylinder rebuild kit PN#D351473 Brake Caliper rebuild kit PN#8561 Complete Power Steering Pump Rebuild kit PN#CMK351852 Clutch Master cylinder Rebuild Kit PN#8522 Complete Steering Gearbox Rebuild Kit And NAPA carries just about every rebuild kit you could ever think of for Renix era MJ's down to the correct funky vacuum lines. So much for Renix era Jeeps being "throw-away engineering". :smart:
  6. 1949 Buick with an INLINE 8 :USAflag:
  7. 1950 FORD. I had one as my 1st car. :D
  8. I thought this one was an impala, late 60's, but I dunno. Looks like a fun trip. I looooove junk yards, but most of that crap needs to be taken to the scrap yard... Ford Fairlane, say...... 67? Bingo!!
  9. I'm sorry to hear about your wreck. :( Glad you are OK, but man are you are going to be sore tomorrow morning!! I hope you have good insurance.
  10. Now that is a good looking bike! I especially like that cool cantilevered rear rack. It still looks great after 20+ years. Here's my ride: 6061 Aluminum stretched frame (I'm 6'4 & it fits my big butt perfectly), aluminum rims, stainless spokes. I love the light weight, especially compared to the old heavy steel cruisers, they wear me out too quickly. I've just started riding it to get rid of some excess baggage and get into some semblance of shape also. I guess all us older guys need to start taking better care of ourselves (as I take another sip of my Bud Light)! :rotf:
  11. I've always been partial to the Boss 429 hood scoop.
  12. This guy has documented pages and pages of idiots and their screwed up lifts. Warning, he's got a pretty foul vocabulary. NSFW. http://128.83.80.193/scarysteering/scarysteering.html

  14. I agree. I had a 1978 Suzuki DS185, the dirt only version, it was SO much fun! I guess I'm stuck in the 70's: House built in 1971 Yamaha DT250 1971 Honda SL350 1971 DeTomaso Pantera 1973
  15. This is my speed: and Both are now 38 years old.

  17. This guy has a neat calculator for old 40's-60's Willys engines, perhaps someone much smarter than me could do something similar or input the correct data for our MJ'S. http://www.public.asu.edu/~grover/willys/speed.html Oh, and yes it's ok to cruise at 3,000 rpm for as long as you wish with your 4.0
  18. Try NAPA , they should carry them.
  19. Piper Twin Comanche. I've always wanted to fly one.
  20. Mine arrived today, thank you Pete!!!
  21. Actually Comanches unfortunately have VERY poor crash ratings as far as protecting occupants. NHTSA Star ratings (with 5 being the best) are 2 or 3 stars (depending on year) frontal impact and 1 star  for side impact. LINK: http://www.safecarguide.com/exp/archive/archive.htm The Comanche is actually one of the lowest. Take a look at the video of the Comanche crash and keep this in mind; a score of 1,000 or below is considered "non-fatal" for frontal head injury. The Comanche scored a 1147 driver and 1635 passenger HIC. Not good. LINK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30iAyJR7rVk&feature=related I used to work as an automotive insurance adjuster so I've seen my fair share of damaged vehicles and injuries. When a vehicle's crush zone collapses it absorbs energy. If it doesn't collapse YOU absorb the energy.
  22. I'm sorry to hear about your layoff. I've been laid off since the 1st of November! It sucks. :( At least I'm getting good at writing resumes! ;) Good luck to you.
  23. As I recall in 1977 the Alfa Spiders all had the 2000cc engines , it was optional in the 1976's. Alfa's are beautiful cars, but like most Italian cars, parts and maintenance can be quite expensive. Here's a 76 currently on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Alfa-Romeo-Spider-2000-Veloce-Rare-1976-Alfa-Romeo-2000-Spyder-Veloce-Low-Miles_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ190294528464QQsspagenameZRSSQ3aBQ3aSRCHQ3aUSQ3a101 And here's my Italian car:
  24. I used to run them in the grille of my 1968 Mustang GT fastback. When I was young and stupid I used to street race (no flames needed) and I set the car up to "evade authorities" which I had to do several times. I had the car wired so that a flick of a couple of switches would kill the license plate, brake and tail lights (brake as hard as I wanted without tipping off pursuer) and switch on the landing lights. The landing lights were VERY bright and the great thing about them is that they are very directional, meaning that from behind the car there is no glow from the sides to give you away. I even had a system that would pump ATF into the header and create the smoke screen from hell!! It would oil up their windshield pretty good too. Never did get caught. :D
  25. Yeah, I just replaced the regulator on my drivers door & I found that sheet attached to the back of the door panel. I found the original window sticker which had been placed inside the owners manual too. Pretty neat. I got so lucky with this MJ, there is ZERO rust ANYWHERE. I've been over it with a fine tooth comb and nothing. I figured surely I'd see a little inside the door but it's a clean as the day it rolled off the line!! Got to love it. TN truck it's whole life.
