87 2.5L ISA and Idle issues
billyjp2 replied to billyjp2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
At the moment, not very far out at all. I've never seen it move, but on startup the idle is relatively low, it builds up as the engine warms. I've seen the adjustment procedure alluded to in Google searches, but the links I've clicked are dead. -
My 1987 2.5L had a long crank/ hard start issue over the winter. Only when the weather was cold and the engine itself was cold. I replaced the ISA with a new unit from Rock Auto. This solved the starting issue, but immediately I was plagued with a high idle. I tried a different new ISA with same results. All vacuum lines look to be in good condition. Any suggestions?

I live in Springfield and work in East Longmeadow. I hardly see any Comanches around here anymore.

I'm not in a rush, it's for an upcoming swap.

power steering help, please (2.5)
billyjp2 replied to mjtjnj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I figured I would post my solution in case anyone else runs into this problem. I bought a brand new Crown Automotive power steering reservoir which did not have the return hole molded properly when the part was made. There was only a small crack for the power steering fluid to return through. -

Sucks no real conclusion ever came out of this. I'm going through the identical scenario after adding power steering to a manual steering truck. -

Any experiences with the T-M Fab stiffeners? I just picked some mids up and plan on getting them welded on this week. -

Makes it a hell of a lot more driveable around town. Probably 65 mph tops on the highway. I've been daily driving it for 2 years now with the gears. -

I work for a company that does tube bending, I had our machinist bend up some scrap 1-1/2 tube and welded it to 3x3 angle iron that's bolted to the top of the bed rails. I can set the tent up in about 2 minutes and I don't need to be particularly picky about the terrain I camp on, as long as it's flat. I've used it a lot over the last 2 years. Thanks! -
I've been lurking here for years and never posted a build thread. I daily drive my 87' MJ and also use it for my business, New England Outfitters. I use the Jeep to wheel/ camp as much as possible and attend events as a distributor for Tepui Rooftop Tents. I traded a Cherokee I had for this MJ and $800. I converted it from 2wd to 4wd, which was a little bit of a challenge to find the swap parts for a 4 cyl. I used a Dana 30 front from a mid -90s XJ and an Explorer 8.8. Both axles were re-geared to 4.88 with a truetrac in the front. I found some 33x12.5 Km2s and mounted them on fake beadlock wheels. I built this bed rack with 1-1/2 tubing to support a rooftop tent and some other a accessories. The winch bumper is from The Flop Shop and the winch is an 8500 pound winch with synthetic rope. You'll find me wheeling unmaintained roads in western mass, Vermont and New Hampshire.

Just converted my 2.5 to 4wd and I have the actual shifter, but could not find any linkage when i did the swap. Please let me know if anyone can send me stock linkage.

I have a 1986 LWB 4cy with a bad fuel pump. I also have a brand new tank and sending unit from a 1988 6 cyl SWB. I have searched and found bits and pieces of info but not all the answers to my questions. From what I've read I should be able to bolt the SWB tank into my LWB without issue. Now, will I be able to bolt the new 4cyl fuel pump into the sending unit for the SWB tank in place of the 6 cyl pump? Any additional insight into this swap would be appreciated. Thanks
