  1. sorry for the tread hi-jack, it's just that i could really use the answer to this as my truck is going into a shop tomorrow and theyre reluctant to even do the job as they are not jeep experts and i told them all should be fine based on my research. - now this new ( to me) info pops up ... here's a great and simple thread on what I'm doing, but it doesnt mention the pilot bushing issue . http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/leans-ax-15-external-slave-swap-pics-965067/
  2. any more info on this? and if '91 is an oddball year ( as far as pilot bushing size is concerned), does that meant that i should be picking up a 304 pilot bushing when putting a '95 external slave ax-15 into my '91 that has an internal? ( both 4.0 ).
  3. thank you FrankTheDog. i do hope that i can use the one from her '95 5spd, or perhaps even the one from my '91 mj 4.0 5 spd.
  4. its a '94 auto and when i put it in 4 hi (or low) its all "bang bang bang" and I'm sure the chain is slipping, but on the way home tonight i started thinking .... - why doesnt it do that in 2 wd ? i mean it still going through the tc, right ? it started quite suddenly . i do have another one, hooked up to an ax15 that i pulled from her last xj, but i understand the input shafts are a different length. a friend told me that that isnt too big a deal and can be changed. so anyway I'm just looking for opinions - is it the chain slipping ? something else i havent thought of ? thanks all :)
  5. whats with that d-30? http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/van/cto/4315808740.html
  6. ahh . sorry . i had just come across that one i posted; opened up CC to post and immediately assumed that's the one you were trying to post.

  8. a sweet ride all the way around. http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/reviews/preview/trail-rated-time-warp-1962-jeep-willys-underground-concept-13071531
  9. any reason not to change just the bell housings ?
  10. i didnt think so either. i did know about the potential pilot bushing issue, but thought since they were both ho's.
  11. internal slave finally packed it in. had the master changed a few months ago. i have saved the external slave tranny and t-case from a previous (95) xj of my wifes. both are obviously 4.0 ho. both were ax 15. would there be any issues putting the 95 one in? different plug-ins? i still have the master and slave unbled. thanks, shawn.
  12. waiting for the lucas rear-main. :rotf:

  15. Not True, The Eliminator 10 Hole rims lost their rivets in 1991. 90 and Down will have rivets, 91+ are clean as the 1s pictured. Those are the factory wheels  thank you gentlemen. I'm surprised to hear this and that i didnt know it already, lol . i have the rivet kind on my 91 but i got them after i got the truck. it seems strange that they would put the non-rivet kind on the newer eliminators, ive seen them on very run-of -the-mill cherokees, including my wifes 95. i'd be throwing gamblers on anyway though - its just my addiction ...
  16. those are not eliminator wheels, but look very similar. the true eliminator ones have rivets all around the rim. the only thing that id be worried about is the cab corners. ( that is a big bite for me) . the rest of the truck i know id be ok with fixing. ( rockers, wheel wells). the ho 4x4 5spd will be super fun to drive. having said that i don't think id go much over a grand for it though. us and the cherokee ppl are the only ones that will be interested, lol.

  18. hahahah -- well played, jim! :rotf:
  19. technically all jeeps are cars except ours and the fs pickups. my neighbour thinks his explorer is a truck. - nope, - car plates!
  20. ive had pics of this thing for years. it says "jeeps for jesus" across the windshield banner, or at least it did. had different wheels then too.
  21. I'm not familiar with the curve of the s-10 or dakota leafs and how they compare to the curve of the mj leafs. what i have in mine is chevy 3/4 ton suburban leaf packs with every other leaf removed. i got no lift from this but the ride is excellent and payload is slightly higher. ( i have no way to measure this, but have hauled many loads of firewood both with the mj springs and the suburban ones. on a side note, - when i did the spring-over, i moved the bottom shock mounts onto the tube. this brought them up about 5".so stock -height shocks are fine.
  22. i would go 2" coil spacers and longer shackles ( chevy 2" drop). get the 31s and your good to go , cheaply and a very capable truck with no mods ( no control arms or tracbar or anything else needed). it will have a nice stance.

  24. Eagle, that's an awesome tip! that might be just the little bit extra that I'm missing now. and Hornbrod, i may be coming to you for ideas if i need a bit more. thanks guys.
  25. in the end a 1.5" t-case drop solved pretty-much all of it. the slip yoke wasn't in far enough. the drop brought it in quite abit but could probably use an inch longer driveshaft too. (or thereabouts).
