Jeep Comanche Roof Basket....
Backdraft replied to huevo83's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Dude, that truck looks great! Very clean. Congrats on a job well done and keep it up. I've always been a fan of white Comanches. I'm going to have to make a trip down south to see this thing in person now! -
99 Xj Wiring To 90 Mj Tail Light Harness
Backdraft replied to LoTGoD's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did what Eagle is describing. I ran another wire to the back to seperate the turn/hazard from the brake lights. I took away a lot of the headache. Now my top light in each tail serves as brake lights, the next set down from the top in each tail serves as the turn/hazard. -
Exactly what Alexia said. The bends are precut and can be bent by hand by clamping it to a table and pushing the angles in. The shipping for me was also $45. I have someone that's going to do the welding for me for a bottle on Scotch since my welds look horrific. After that, it should be about $125 for powder coating. Its still way cheaper than that obnoxiously expensive bumper I tried to get last year.

Well, I decided I was going to sleep in this morning and woke up at 7 anyway. Thats sleeping in right? I realized it was black Friday and promptly placed my order to JCR Offroad for their MJ DIY rear bumper. Now it's just a waiting game before it shows up at my door. I'm actually a bit excited about it getting here. Anyone else planning to order one?

I couldn't agree more. I'm honestly used to Dallas's inconsistencies. And I was also pulling for the Lions. May be worth it to start paying more attention to Houston!

I've been a Cowboys fan my whole life. But they haven't showed up to play a game today.

Oh its no big deal. My family is having our get together and dinner on Sunday. I'm honestly thankful I have a good and good paying job to go to.

Yeah, I'm working a 12 hour shift today. But the rest of you enjoy Thanksgiving!

Cherokee_Chief's '89 Lwb Pioneer Build

Now thats what I call growing up fast! Great looking MJ dude. -
Finally got a pic of the D30 we put under the front the other day. I know, we didnt clean and repaint it. I have to pull the driver side spring and install some spacers/isolators to level it out side to side so I may just make him pull the entire front, pressure wash it, wire wheel it, and repaint it. Also got the 8.25 under the rear. It DID get a wire wheel job and a quick repaint. Didnt shoot the diff cover because I have a different little plan for it. I really need to get new u-bolts on it since the XJ ones are too short. And yes, I cut the e-brake cables as well as the rubber brake line and hard lines. They are all getting replaced anyway so I don't see a need to preserve them. Also the rear height proportioner is going to be removed.

Rear Bumper Ideas And Opinions
Backdraft replied to Southpaw26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Have y'all checked out JCRs rear DIY bumper? Just throwing that out there as another option. I don't work for them or anything. I just liked the way it looked and plan to get one for myself at the end of the month when they go on sale. There are photos on their bookface page. -
Thats even more accurate than one might think! Kind of plastic surgery style. "She" could always use a little tuck here and a little lift there...

My Eliminator doesnt have a name unless you consider Eliminator its name. Like Cody, usually I call it a worthless POS. I guess it needs a womans name since it takes away most of my time and all of my money. The kids truck we named "Phoenix" because like the mythical bird, we are building a truck out of the ashes of two dead jeeps. Also the paint its going to get is similar to the color of said mythical bird (MangoTango). Cars Ive named in the past as a kid: 1981 Chevy Citation. "The Silver Bullit" So named because it was a huge ugly steaming pile of crap (got it as punishment for killing my 86 Comanche when I was 16), but it was fast as could be. Fast enough that my friends said it would have outran Steve McQueen. I hated that car. 1982 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. "The Brewmobile" Named because it always seemed to pull beer hauling duty. Always had a ton of beer in the trunk on the weekends for parties. There were more, but Ive rambled long enough.

No sir. The Phoenix isn't done yet. I'd say somewhere around the halfway point. I still have to put the 8.25 under the back and install new shackles while I'm at it. Once that's under it, it should be ready to go to the paint shop. That's gonna take a little longer than expected now since I had to put a new transmission in the wife's car a couple weeks ago. However, once it does get the paint and body work done, its just a matter of putting everything back in. I have all the parts for it stored in the shop. Drivetrain, interior, wiring, extra goodies, etc. Just a matter of assembly at that point.

Cleaning Tail Light Lenses
Backdraft replied to jimoshel's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The Meguires headlight restoration kit uses sandpaper. Its a very high numbered grit, but its still sandpaper. I've used the kit on tail lights with good results. -
My truck? Yeah, pretty much, I guess. I still need to put the CB in. I plan to order that JCR DIY rear bumper on black friday. And I'd like to line-x the bed. But other then those little things, I'd call it done. Then again, are they ever really "done"?

If all goes according to plan, this truck may accompany me to Moab! :brows: Nahhhhh. I want my truck there. Id be too afraid to damage the paint on this one once its done.

Wow, ask and ye shall receive. From my old hometown too. http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/cto/3398704026.html

Well, I almost had an update on my truck. I dug out my old Cobra CB from my XJ and decided to put it in the truck. Looked around and couldnt find an antenna mount I swore I had. Also realized after measuring, the antenna cable I had was a few feet short. Today was the last day of my vacation and since I had spent a week and a half working on the sons truck and the CB kind of beat me, I decided to what any normal person would do. I put down the Cobra and picked up a King Cobra.

Welcome to the club! Just go get you a Comanche. don't think about it. Its a great investment (moneypit). Also it'll be nice to have another gun nut here to offer their insight on the subject.

Well, since we're hijacking. I would be interested in that swap as well. I have always liked the older dash/interior, but I feel its too 80s-tastic for my taste which is why I did the full deal on mine.....twice! I can still vividly remember the 80s and "oh, the style horror and embarrassment". As you would say Ben, "but I digress". Back to the dash, I think it would be a slightly easier swap from a mechanical point of view. From an electrical point of view, maybe not so much. But one thing I feel would be a constant is powering up the systems individually. I think with the HVAC its just a matter of getting a hot wire to the right place, same with radio and accessories, etc. However, you mentioned something that kind of throws a wrench into it all. If you're going through all that trouble, why not just outfit it with 96 model electronics and what not. You get the first Gen dash, with what is essentially the second Gen tech (OBDII specifically). Aren't the columns the same/similar between the MJ and the 96 XJ? If so, just replace the steering wheel if you don't like the airbags. I dunno, I haven't really given it that much thought until now.
