1987 Comanche, went to store at lunch (midnight thirty). came out of store turned key.........nothing no juice, checked batery cables, fuses in engine compartment, then checked fuses under dash..........the buzzer for keys in door ajar was very dim......... fuse block is soaked in clutch fluid, melty fuses everywhere (the plasitc melted but no blown fueses) Walked back to work planning on calling tow truck after work to get her home. Get to truck after work she fires right up and drives home fine. Do I replace fuse block? Any other ideas as to what could cause this problem? Thanks in advance.

So after sitting since May my Ghostie truck is now running and I get t o start driving her again on Monday.......I have been told I have to break her in gently (no hortrodding for a few weeks). It took me a while to get the $$$ to replace the head gasket and stuff. But she no longer pukes white smoke out the tailpipe. Head gasket had 4 breaks in it two from oil passages into cylinders and two from water jacket into cylinders no cross contamination however. new head gasket and all the valve guide seals and we get to call her good.

Safeway sells KNOX gelatin for nails it's powdered and you just add a paket to your water bottle (it's orange flavored).

$50 does that sound fair? I can't deliver to you as the MJ blew her head gasket. Offer what is fair if $50 is too much.

Got a package today (daughter told me) I will open it when I get home tomorrow...........Thanks Pete -
yeah I figured but I've owned LOTS of vehicles in my life and this is the first one that had that happen.

Well I bought this here MJ was supposed to be a '88. The title we got from the seller said it was an '88 but the registration said '87 I thought wierd........My new registration said '87 All the VIN's matched including all the plates in the door, engine compartment, and dash. Check the door sticker and it says manufactured in August 1987. New title says '87 So I just thought it was a bit wierd that he thought it was an '88 and the title said it was '88 but the registration said it was an '87. Now the title and the registration both say it is an '87.

This is one reason I now ALWAYS file a "Report of Sale" the instant funds change hands (you can do it online in Washington State). I did not do that ONCE........two years later the vehicle was abandoned and the tow company came after ME for the towing and storage fees.....even though I SOLD the vehicle but because I hadn't filed the report of sale and the person I sold the vehicle to never transfered the title I got SCREWED. (I still owe the towing company something like $900 for a $200 car). I gave a travel trailer to some "friends" 2 years ago and they abandoned it when they moved. They never transfered the title. I had reported the "sale" to the state and the towing company got the report of sale and went after them at thier new address instead of me.

That is one awesome truck. We have one that is not in that nice of condition but we only paid $400 for ours.

SAD NEWS: Ghostie is parked indefinately. compression test .....inconclusive (this according to my little brother who is an ASE certified mechanic). However they found evidence of water in cylinder #5 and lots of oil in the rest. There is still no oil in the water and vice/versa. HE "played" with it for several hours today and before he can say the rings are ok or bad we need to replace the following. Definately needs: Head Gasket & timing chain When that is done we do the compression test again and the leakdown test.

Yup gotta love Jons shop......I get most of my parts from him. Since he scrapped the XJ I don't know how much longer he will have a stock of used XJ parts tho.

I have a canopy that might be for sale.........I'm in Auburn, WA. I didn't like it on the MJ and it's for a short bed MJ. I even have the original sales reciept for it. The truck has only had 4 owners including me. And they all kept the reciepts for EVERYTHING.

Thanks for the info folks. I will do the checking next weekend as I won't have time during the week withthe new job and all. We will 1) pull plugs and look for deposits. 2) compression test when cold then when warm. Is that about right? It's been too long since auto shop in HS.........What is a Leakdown test? and how do I perform it? Thanks again.
-
Um....NOT losing coolant at all......losing OIL about a quart a week (I only drive a couple miles round trip to work and then about 100 miles round trip on the weekends)....NO water in oil checked that first. The oil is being consumed internally. SO pull plugs and check for sooty deposits, etc.
-
We have not pulled the plugs yet. As all the tools are at my house in the back of the XJ. I am not home on the weekends. What am I looking for on the plugs? OIl buildup? Soot? Carbon? or all of the above?

She named herself...........She's grey and has skeletons hanging in the windows........a skull hitch receiver and shift knob......Her name is Ghostie......much better than what the other guy called her ("The Unit"). I will be driving my wheelin' rig (Purple Haze) until I can resolve Ghostie's problem........If I have to rebuild the engine then so be it. I just need more input on what folks might think is going on.
