  1. I was under the (evidently wrong) impression the Limited was only available with the V8.
  2. Drilled out 11 pop rivets, replaced 7 or them with bolts and riveted 4. The Purple People Eater's passenger door now has a power windows regulator. Still have to rivet the power lock actuator into the door. Also swapped the 87 end onto the new (longer) 89 speedometer cable so it properly clips onto the speedometer and installed the longer cable.
  3. It's still a hack and tap. Only difference is they hack and tap it for you.
  4. I'd start with the tires as the most likely cause.
  5. Biodiesel should be fine in any diesel engine. Good thing is it lubricates the top end better without needing added sulfur. Bad thing is it gells up at higher temperatures than petroleum diesel so a tank heater is pretty much mandatory in the winter in cold climates like here in Ohio. If made from peanut oil your exhaust may smell like peanuts, which may be a good or a bad thing. And if you make it yourself you need to register it with the government.
  6. I always thought the 249 only came in the Limited (with the V8) package?
  7. Ripped the Purple People Eater's dash apart to redo the hacked radio wiring. I finally found the 12 factory wires hiding underneath the heater controls with both plugs cut off. Also installed a door speaker in the passenger door as well as a wiring harness for power windows and locks, but didn't get the actual windows and locks done yet. Truck doesn't seem to have the dash harness to support them, so I will have to splice in part of the dash harness from the 96 parts XJ.

    Gas prices

Dropped a penny to $3.86 today. Probably means it's gonna jump up 30 cents tomorrow.
  9. May also need to aim your headlights a bit higher.
  10. Did your old gauge cluster have dummy lights, or gauges?
  11. As far as I know, some '87 and all '88 and newer ones have an adjustment screw on the back. But you will need a hand held tachometer to calibrate it against.
  12. Way too short notice for me. I'm planning (hoping it'll work out this year) for a trip in September with a local club.
  13. The 4.0 is a great engine, but it doesn't make enough power for a vehicle as heavy as a ZJ. It's not as bad as a 4 cylinder in an MJ, but not much better, either. As far as rust goes in Ohio, that's why you buy one from the south. Either fly out to pick it up, or have a buddy drive you down.
  14. A budget of 3500 looking for an XJ should get you a spotless rustless, lady driven one.
  15. Former coworker of mine has a 93 with a 5.2 that's closing up on 300,000 miles without major breakdowns. A friend of mine just bough a 98 with the 5.9. He got 19 mpg on a long distance trip, but mileage around town is 9.

    Gas prices

Samee as my last post, except I found $179.9 at a BP in Fairlawn. Get-Go right beside it was $189.9 like everyone else, though.
  17. Don't know why a Cherokee cable won't work, as the Cherokee and Comanche cables are the same and they have always worked for me. Just make sure it's from between 84 and 87 as they changed the end where it hooks up to the cluster slightly in 88. If you get one from a 4.0 automatic 4x4 it will be long enough to reach any other combination as well.
  18. If you want to make a trip down to Ohio, I have a HP D30 and an NP231 sitting around. Sorry, no transmission, though, unless you want a 2wd AW4.
  19. After striking out in Canton and then Akron I found a Cherokee Limited with a 242 in Cleveland. Paid less than $2 for the bezel, got the gate for free, $5 for the 4wd switch, but I think it's the wrong one (from too old of a transfer case), $15 for a good front drive shaft (without ANY RUST), and $5 for a longer speedometer cable for the Purple People Eater. As I said, as far as I'm concerned, it's too much trouble to modify the 231 gate.
  20. I believe it's either 60.5 or 61". Same as XJ, ZJ, YJ, TJ and possibly KJ, WJ, WK, KK, although the KK, WJ and WK use a different bolt pattern.

$3.87 In Strasburg, OH. Everything north of here up to and including Cleveland seems to be $3.89.

    Hey guys.

It's the Barbie edition! That's even worse than my purple and silver one.

    Hey guys.

Welcome Jake. I think I may have wheeled with you at Badlands a few years back.
  24. The blow by is something the 4.0 is known for. Cleaning all the sludge off the inside of the valve cover and opening up the CCV orifice again can temporarily help (if not fix) the oil on the air filter, but it will come back again later. I agree on the $1500. You can possibly ask for $1800 (and settle for $1500) to allow some room to negotiate.
  25. Okay, so you now have a bundle of 6 wires that are not grounded.
