The clutch has been slipping in my truck lately so I figured it was as good a time as any to start swapping in my 4wd. I dropped the trany and I'll be damned if there wasn't a huge rats caught in the pressure plate. The clutch looked like it had just been replaced. Looks like they made the nest out of my seat to. Has anything like this happened to someone else on hear? [/i]

Its an internal slave and I think the throwout bearings attached to it. Its all one piece.

I have an 87 comanche with an Ax-4 2wd that I'm converting to 4wd with an Ax-5 231. I priced a clutch for it from a company called fenco I think. For an entire kit with a clutch disk, throwout bearing, slave and pilot shaft bearing for $140. Why is it so cheap. I have seen people on hear pay that much for just the slave cylinder. Does fenco make a good clutch or not. Thanks

Wow!! I didn't see the pic of the odometer before. 71k. Barely broken in. My 2.5 has about 178k on it now and still runs great so I'd say yours should last a long time. -
Congrats. Saw it on ebay, good clean looking truck. Almost looked like an olympic addition.

That paint is sweet. Love the color. If thats your idea of rough you should move to PA. That truck would be a treasure around here. -

Thats one nice truck you got there. Gotta love the legendary 2.5 low output. Sure is a clean. -
My dad just gave me an old mopar performance catalog and there was alot really sweet parts in there. The books probably ten years old by now but I was wondering. Are any of the parts from them still available? Would a jeep dealership be able to get older jeep performance parts? Thanks
-
I looked at some at banks and pacesetter and they list for 91-95 wranglers with a 2.5. Has anyone used a wrangler header on an mj? Do they work? I haven't found one for an 87 2.5.

Sorry about your dog man. Had to put our lab down a few years ago. Wasn't easy. She was 12 and we got her as a puppy. Wish you luck in finding another boxer.

Well mine snapped off all the studs that hold the trany down when it went bad.....so if you can move the transmission side to side thats a good way to check.
-
Wow. You just bought my dream truck. Congrats. Pretty much one of the nicest and cleanest trucks I've ever seen.

How do you check gear ratios?
onebigmj replied to onebigmj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Cool. Thanks alot. It may be a 35 but a the gearing is good. Probly make a good rear for my 4banger truck. All I have to do now is regear my front axle. -
I was looking at a thread a while ago and some guys mentioned that 4cly trucks with a 4speed auto usually have 4.56 gears. I had a dana 35 from one so I pulled the diff cover to check. The only numbers I found that ment something to me are 41-9. Does this mean anything? Thanks

Mabey he'll sell it cheap to make bail.

I had a two 90's that had a very slow starting problem. I ended up putting a fuel pump in it to solve the problem. It had something to do with the fact that it wouldn't hold fuel pressure after it shut off. It didn't seem like there was any problem with the pump but for some reason it worked.

That truck has been on ebay about a dozen times. He thinks its worth its weight in gold. About the only really good thing is the bed and its hardly worth a grand.

My 88 got alot of looks but I'm pretty sure it got alot of laughs too. The only comment I ever got was I hope you didn't pay much for it. My 87 gets alot of looks cause it sounds ridiculous. One guy offered my dad $2000 for my sport truck when he borrowed it.
-
I looked it up once and the 2.5 had like 1 horsepower more than the 2.8 and like 10 ft/lb. My dad went to a dealership when they were new and said the 2.8 was like $600 cheaper than the 2.5. Thats kind of sad.
-
Sorry to here about your gutless 2.8. When you get to a hill throw it in neutral and get out and push. Probably make the hills a little better. If you never did a tune up on it that might be something to consider. Plugs wires cap etc. A fuel filter might also be a good idea. It made a big difference in some vehicles I had.

I what exactly is the problem that fram filters cause? I have 3 jeep in my driveway with fram filters on them that haven't had a problem but I'm worried now. What is a good brand to use?
-
No I'm using the driveline to put 4wd in an 87 2.5 sport truck I picked up. [/img] Not bad for $350, drove it home and the best part. NO RUST.

I'm pretty sure its at the top of the DIY section.
