  1. Come on, look at the age of that thing. That was back when a truck was a truck no matter how it looked or who made it. Today trucks are all cars, and I am just talking trucks in general. Lets not get down into "but what about the HD 2500s or F-350s or whatever else is out there". I am sure if Jeep ever did come out with anything along the truck lines there would be one class and only one class. No Jeep JT 2500s or whatever. Heaven forbid if Jeep and Dodge has trucks competing at the same time with each other. Look what happened the last time that was around... bye bye to Jeeps truck line. Now yes, I will say the specs frame wise on that JT is nice IIRC. But I don't like nor count these new one piece bodies as trucks (think hondas thing or the ford one). Like I said, this is nothing more then a Scrambler brought back from the dead, and it seems to ring a bell that it didn't do so well at the time. I mean, if you all want to get technical, lets compare a scrambler cj-8 to a real truck of its time. both bare stock and see which one holds up. Then lets compare this to a real truck of today. Bet the results will be pretty close for both. Sure, this might go down well today, but I want a truck with the bed separate from the cab. It allows it to flex separate from the cab. I have never been a Ford fan so I had no idea about those. But back then trucks were tough as rocks no matter who made em. Blah, I get touchy on this subject because I have lived on and worked on a farm my whole life. All I have ever owned are trucks. And yes, while a wrangler or scrambler new or old would be fun, they can't be used in place of a truck no matter what its designation is. Alex
  2. Hey, I just want a Jeep pickup thats real and new. I'm not looking for some heavy duty 2500 or whatever. I mean, if my MJ can pull around gravity wagons, the Gladiator can do it too if it had a real engine. There is no other truck out there right now that I would buy. They have all been played out to the market of people that want a truck just to have one. Most are basically cars. I want real axles and Something that looks sharp. I refuse to buy GM or Ford, and that leaves me with Dodge which I just don't like after what they have pulled behind the sense with Jeep over the years. They stick a Cummins in that Glad and it will do what I need it to do and then some. Alex
  3. I would love to have this on my 91. But my manual says it was a thing that was only offered in Canada. What I want to know is what parts are needed to put this in and how hard would it be to yank those parts and then install them. What do you all think? Alex
  4. I'm sorry, you can not count this thing as a "truck". On a real truck the bed is separate from the cab. This is nothing more then an updated Scrambler CJ-8 and I will not buy into it. I want a hardcore Jeep pickup. I live on a farm and need a real truck, not something that is one body. Once Chrysler became their own again they said to watch for some of the concepts of the past few years that got great public reaction to come out in the future. So I am still praying for the Gladiator with a Cummins or the very least a Hemi. THEN we have a true truck on our hands again. Alex
  5. I have thought about this for quiet some time also. Only not a 2dr XJ. Just take a LWB MJ and cut the cab right after the doors and cut the bed between the wheel well and front of the bed. Remove the front of the bed for later after the cab is done. As for the cab, take and cut the very rear window section out of an XJ and place between the doors and vents. And with the roof issue you all brought up just don't use the XJ roof but rather cut a section out of another MJ. Then put the bed back together only cut out the amount that needs to be cut to make the front go back in. I have only thought about this and have not even measured or anything, so maybe it wouldn't work. I was just going for storage without a seat also. Alex
  6. Alex, this is surprising mate. Yeah, 75-77 Camaros are okay, but I thought you were MJ hard core . But I suppose you have your reasons. But you'll prolly be like Rick in CO, who got rid of his MJ, then bemoaned his loss, and got it back again. BTW, you still there Rick?? Oh yea, I love my MJ. I'm not trying all THAT hard to get rid of it. It's just if someone has one and are willing to trade I will probably take em up on it. But even if that does happen I will still be around here that is for sure. The lack of extra seats and a 15k mile motor that burns oil pretty bad when you let it idle is killing me also. I would probably trade it for a LWB, Auto, 4.0L, 4x4 MJ if I could get one with a decent motor for once. my first one was perfect, no leaks and it didn't burn any, but was only 2wd. I will say I loved my 86 X the most out of all three I have had, but that engine in it leaking puddles of oil was ticking a lot of people off (my dad for puddles on his drive). I would trade for one just like it as long as it didn't leak like crazy and didn't smoke like crazy. If only I could find a job, then I would keep the MJ and buy a Camaro. The farm held me over through the summer, but now I am having the worst time trying to find a job. Alex
  7. Eh, I really don't care if it has the 3" lift or not. I'm actually trying to trade it for a 75-77 camaro. If it has it it has it, if not then oh well. Alex
  8. Here is how I did mine, with lots of pics along the way and a short video of it up on stands to make sure it worked, before the front tires just didn't spin. Down towards the bottom. Dial-up warning on that page. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/view ... c&start=30 Alex
  9. Doesn't look even close to stock height. The correct measurement is from the centerline of the axle (hub cap, or whatever) straight up to the bottom edge of the flare. The measurement should be 17-1/2" for the front, and for an MJ about 20" or 20-1/2" for the rear. At stock height, 31s in the front should look like they were really stuffed in there. Your truck visually looks like at least a 2" to 3" lift. Well let me restate this, when I compared it to my 86 4x4 it was about the same. And as far as I knew there was no lift on the 86. But there could have been since It looked really high up there and I loved how it sat better then this 91. Maybe Joe can get in on this with my old 86. Alex
  10. Just took this pic this weekend in my latest photo shoot of the truck. Pulling its weight around the farm again this harvest. It is running some 31" x 10.5s and all I had to do was replace the stop bolts with some that were a tad longer to stop the rubbing. I was told when i bought this thing that it has a 3" lift, but when I measured and compared it to stock height it is the same. So it either doesn't or it has settled over time. Don't mind Cricket, she just loves having her own bucket seat rather then a bench like my K-10. She is a malamute before anyone asks. Alex
  11. I am so glad to see I am not the only person that calls em that. But I do it no matter the style, even the awesome 75s. That was pretty awesome vid you stuck up there too. great stuff. lol Alex
  12. What I was going to say exactly. But the new Rubi's are built really well, and some of the features make it great factory for off-road, stuff you would have to add to the TJs. Alex
  13. A friend of mine has a Dodge Cummins with the auto, he tows the crap out of the thing. He helps us tow grain wagons and gravity wagons and tons of equipment around the farm and it has held up fine. As for the bolts, common problem. We got a few in when I was working at the GM dealer with this issue. Seems to be that the bolts they use are just junk, not Stainless like they should be. From factory they are galvanized and that even doesn't hold up that well once it wears off. Might want to check if you take it back in for em to make sure they are what they should be. Alex
  14. . Just cause you don't like how they look doesn't mean they can't hold their own on stuff more its level. Don't try to take a Grand or Libby on a Wrangler trail, its not pretty. Alex i never said i didnt like the way they look , but they are ugly. but was refering more to the shift from off road durability and capability to 0-60s and visual apeal/creature comfort This is true, Jeep has lost their legacy it seems. They are making things more like cars and only keeping the wrangler even close to off-road status. It was much better before CDX bought em. We had trucks and full-size SUVs that were built for off-road, not for mall parking lots. Jeep should NOT be making cars, the old Libby was a better Libby overall (the new one is just the Nitro with a face lift that still will not make XJ fans like it), the JT is not going to pull in Jeep fans that want a true bed-separate-from-cab truck. Lets just say American Auto makers have lost just to sum this up? I mean they are getting better at mileage and everything, but most this stuff they are just introducing was around from Tucker and DeLorean, and what happened to them? The Big Three shut em both down and started to use their ideas. But they didn't have the power to shut down their foreign competition and they are struggling to keep up with them. Alex.
  15. I have seen the older style Libby do some serious when built right. The compass is pure garbage, the Patriot is a tad better then the Comp and looks good lifted, but can't do that great off-road. The Commander is fine but not something I would ever take off-road. I have seen some new Grands off-road and they don't do that bad. Just cause you don't like how they look doesn't mean they can't hold their own on stuff more its level. Don't try to take a Grand or Libby on a Wrangler trail, its not pretty. As far as Toys, i have no opinion other then the truck from BTTF is !! Alex
  16. Good luck getting Chevy or Ford to take it back, I know first hand. My dads 97 (i think) F-150 was at the dealer atleast 3 times a month when he first got it, they refused to claim it as lemon and take it back. The dealer I just got done with, GM, was not much better if someone would keep coming in with issues. I just refuse to buy anything new. I will stick with my old Jeep trucks and 86 K-10. Alex
  17. You are correct on GMs lack of performance anymore. Their trucks are no more then cars. The last year of a good Chevy for an actual truck was 1998 IIRC. Once the style turned in for the 2000 model they were no more then cars. My stepdads 2000 Silverado with tow package can't tow as well as my 91 Eliminator. The 4wd selector switch is known for going out as is the "security center". The fuel gauge has been replaced twice and keeps doing the same thing where it won't read how much gas is in the tank. And all the issues you listed above, plus rust issues at the cab corners even though it has been fixed 3 times. The new ones are even worse, only bigger versions. Chevy is at the bottom of the ladder now for trucks, you want a truck go Dodge or Toyo, heck go Ford before Chevy anymore. Now I never thought I would say that. I just quit my job in sales at the local GM dealer cuz we were getting noone on the lots. The Cryco dealer was packed on days when we had maybe 2 tops. Alex
  18. read this post: http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6569 My first MJ (88 Eliminator) had one for an S-10 and it fit fine, didn't leak or anything. LWBs I am not too sure on since the only LWB I had I didn't want one for. But it did have a camper shell for an S-10 that fit fine, so I would think the S-10 ones would work. But maybe try some of those other ones listed in that post. Alex
  19. Anyone else see it? It just showed a glimpse of it at the end of the last show, about 9:55 PM EST. It was a really nice red and black one. I think it was from a clip of the last volcano eruption in Hawaii in the 80s or something. Looked like it just got off the lot. Alex
  20. Yep, Selec-trac (full-time) was 86 only, after that all there was was Command-trac for the most part. How hard would it be to take one of those Selec-trac X-cases from an 86 and stick into an 87 with the 4.0L? Manual and auto, can't decide if I want to keep manual or go auto with the next buy. Alex
  21. I believe that was it. If it quits working again I will repost and see what else you guys think. Thanks Eagle. Alex
  22. I will go check that out Eagle. Run it around for a bit and see what happens. Then I will let you all know how it went. Wish me luck. Alex
  23. Got my custom plates on the thing, and it has it's first carshow on sunday. I wish the dent was gone for it but I figured WTH. Might be getting a cherokee for next to nothing. No clue on year/shape/model yet. So if I can use the doors/interior/grille parts it is mine and the rest is for parts/scrap. Will get some pics with the new plates, and maybe some more from the carshow sunday. There were some neat things there last year so there should be some good pics coming up next week. Alex
  24. My stupid electronic speedo in the 91 keeps going out. Every now and then when I start it up and take off it won't work till I hit a bump. I know where the gear is and how to fix it if the railroad trick stops working, but does this sound like I need to get a new gear setup for it or is there some trick so that gear stops jumping off track? Thanks, Alex
  25. Well if I still didn't have a job you could have counted me in, but now that I have one I can't make it. Plus I only have the one Jeep anymore and she isn't aloud to play on rocks anymore, just mud. So I just want to tell everyone to have fun, I know I did last time I was there. I still have the sticker on the 91. Alex
