Hooks On The Front Of An Mj?
GirsMJ86 replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Here are pics of the ones on my rig. Don't currently have the rear bolts installed but you get the idea. I'm actually going to be getting rid of these and changing to a front hitch or JCR bumper this summer hopefully. Looking at them in those pics, they appear to be custom made or something I think. But they work all the same, installed in the same manner as well. I do know the brackets are tacked onto the bumper brackets in my case. Found that out when I needed to remove the bumper awhile back. -

Hooks On The Front Of An Mj?
GirsMJ86 replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The top bracket is driver's side. They go on the outside of the "frame" between it and the bumper mounts. The rear hole goes further back towards the wheel well, back where the steering bracket bolt is on the driver's side. Those allow you to pull without ripping the unibody to pieces because it spreads out the tension along the rail. You'll still twist it to hell though if you pull sideways. If I wasn't sick as a dog right now I could gets some pics of factory installed ones, but I won't be leaving the house for a few days (my trucks are out of town). -

That factory CD player is cool, I'd trade my XJ control center for that. lol Anyways, OT, Xplods are pretty cheap. They aren't bottom of the barrel, but they are some of the cheapest of the good quality speakers out there. Same for the headunits, of which they have all different types from $100 budget to several hundred with tons of features.

So I Had A Thought For A Engine Swap
GirsMJ86 replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yea... an LS. oh boy. Sarcasm aside, was the OP even read? The whole idea behind the rotary was to avoid the hard to cool V8s. You want to use a V8, and be like 90% of the people out there who resort to an LS when they do a swap, get a full size truck. The 3800 or Vortec 4300 are a wiser choice for an MJ if you gotta go GM. -
Pure Xplod is fine, that's what my setup was with my old Xplod headunit. Had the speakers with the tweeter on them, they fit just fine behind the door panels. My current setup is a Sony headunit with Kenwood speakers, it's what was in it when I bought the truck. Sounds good but I liked the separate tweeters of the Xplods. My cousin loves his Alpine speakers, but he runs all kinds of power in his truck and has a lot more room (crewcab Ram) so he runs the component speakers along with amp and subs. He also gets good discounts because of his DJ business.

It was good. Sound was clear, and the HD radio feature was really nice. Had great range on radio reception to boot. The only thing I hated was the blinding blue lights of the buttons and display, and I never really could get use to the button layout. It had some multi-directional dial to move around the menus, felt cheap. My favorite headunit I've had got stolen, if I could find a good one of it used I would trade my current Sony for it. It was an Xplod, had changeable backlight colors, and one of the best button layouts I've come across. Although I'd hate to give up the functionality of my current Sony, it has a usb port and SD card slot on the front along with the cd. Once again, I just wish the lights were not blue. The Xplods had/have good sound as well. Really though I think just about anything would sound good in an MJ, such a small space.

Personally, I had one and never used it. I just don't think the phone is needed in the vehicle. I had it because it was a Kenwood headunit, with built in HD receiver, that I got on sale.

90 Mj Long Bed In Junkyard Cleveland Ohio
GirsMJ86 replied to Dando's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Dang. Well alright then, don't bother pulling any of the stuff I was interested in. Sounds like that thing is there for a reason, and only the flares are worth it to us. lol -

A rotary would be interesting, but I'd rather grab a 6 bolt 4G63 Mitsubishi engine and turbo the thing. Hell of an engine. I have a friend with a 1st gen Talon TSi AWD and I'd bet he is pushing over 300hp. It's just a little four banger so space wouldn't be an issue. Hell if you wanted to you could probably grab the entire AWD system and stick it in the MJ somehow. I've seen crazier things. The rotary is poor on gas, uses oil like crazy (designed to though), poor emissions, and seal issues. On the plus side, you never have to change the oil, power to weight ration is great, no engine knock, and very little vibration. But it is really meant for performance. It shines when being pushed, but in daily commute it sucks. -

I'm in Marion. Go ahead and pull the bumper ends, so long as they are in good shape. If the remainder of the spoiler is in the bed, grab that stuff too unless it's in tiny pieces. I could see about making a mold. The other stuff just report back. -

Like I said before, definitely want to know what rear axle it has and what kind of shape the rear bumper is in. Might be interested in those front bumper caps too. I've decided to pass on the flares though, I'll probably never get my hands on another long bed and they'd be kind of weird on a short. Should grab the VIN so a build sheet could possibly be pulled. -
Unless things have changed, I'd stay away from crutchfield when it comes to buying. They've never been the best price, kind of high in my experiences.

Cover King Seat Covers
GirsMJ86 replied to jpdriver1's topic in Vendors- members making products for MJs
Should mention there are two different bench seats. One with the indent for the small floor console and one without. -
No worries, I'll just have to keep looking. I'm partial to the everything clear up front look. Especially on black or charcoal trucks like mine is going to end up being.
-
I had Xplods in my old rigs and Kenwoods in my current '88 and they all sounded fine to me with stock wires.
-
Only 2-4, the dash spots were never used in MJs to my knowledge.
-
Now I'm going to hi-jack. Don, since you're the master at finding stuff, any idea where to get those clear corners still? I had a set that I let go with my old '91 I stupidly got rid of, and can't find them again. I can find the hideous euro ones, but not those factory style ones.
-
The MJ definitely has a better chance then the XJ, but not even the FSJ have become desirable yet. The big thing will be that if the things ever become desirable, collectors will want stock. I know several guys who collect old muscle cars, and they would overlook the majority of the rigs here. I'd also wager that the Laredo would be the most desired model.

Chrysler Vin Check - Jy Find - Is Everything I Know A Lie!?
GirsMJ86 replied to Automan2164's topic in The Pub
But it has the full roof rack, IIRC that means 1997 or 1998 (I think) I used to remember all this stuff, but it's fading fast. The 2001 my Dad owned for awhile had a roof rack just like that one. It was just a Classic. EDIT: Found some pics, it did stop before getting to the front doors. Must have been thinking of one of the million other SUVs he went through there for awhile. -
