Rustoleum paint job
edman2007 replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did my XJ with Krylon fusion. Prep work is key to make it look good. mine is flat tan so i got away pretty easy. if you decide to go with any kind of gloss sand like no other. and get a little handle that goes on the spray cans, makes life much easier. -
dang, wish they had this a month ago... just got my guard dog 31's on saturday, great quality in their reman-process.
-
yeah. i know they won't take a full on drop very well, but they do survive using them as a jack point. But i figured since that was all i had at the time, something was better than nothing to protect that thinner sheet metal above it.

they will be if/when i get a gas tank skid built. i didn't want that to get in the way before i decided how i want to mount the tank skid. So frame tie in is on the agenda! I'm also 17 and don't have much cash/shop tools on hand, so all of that limits my ability to work on it when i want. But i would rate it a decent first try at fab work for me..

Sorry, haven't snapped one yet. uses the 8 frame rail bolts and the 8 bumper mounts. pretty sturdy. all grade 8 hardware.

First ever fab attempt for me. This was my high school Junior year of welding project. All mounts (receiver tube, d-ring, and frame) pass through both sides. Still a work in progress, with a tire carrier to be added. A few pics of my "weak" flexing are tossed in too for a laugh. My jeep has less than $1800 into it with all mods, so its definitely a budget built DD. Material Specs Body: 2"x5" x 3/16" Mounts: 1/4" angle and plate Quarter guards: 12 gauge 1.5" square tube Suprisingly there is no rub here at all. Suspension is at bumpstop and tire still has some wiggle room. And the before pic for fun

I have a 1992 4.0 HO with 185k on the clock. Just recently started that when starting it cold, I have to give it has for about a minute to keep it running, then it idles very low (300-500 range) until it reaches about the 180* mark. What are some possible causes of this? I wouldnt think that it would be an O2 sensor, but since it runs fine after it hits ~180*, I am questioning it. Thanks for listening. JD

16+ and drifting everywhere! Rode the snowmobile on the trails, it was snow up to the windshield the whole time, could only go about 30 with it pinned. I felt like a boat, just chuggin along.

Where did summer go?, although i did finally get some projects don on the XJ! and just for kicks, everything i have done except the sound system, has only cost around $500 from this To this Still have plans in the works- Front and rear winch and tire carrier bumpers to make in welding class this winter/spring Finish painting/bedliner on lower bodyline Folding light bar on top Gas tank skid, and probably Crossmember/tcase New rear axle (8.25 or 8.8, probably an 8.25 found one for $125 with 70k miles) Rear selectable locker the work just never stops! Thanks for comments, JD

Man, i just feel bad for all the people that have families and everything, loose their job, and can't find one. When i'm 16, and just get landed with part time jobs left and right. I milk cows for 5 hours 3-4 nights a week, and work 5 hour shifts at the local auto shop mon-fri. Maybe the people need to come to small town Minnesota....

On my trip to alaska my cousin had an off road experience with one of those :brows: Never thought the jeep could take such carnage, untill the rear axle snapped off and the wheels fell off the front. We sourced our repair parts from :D :D :D this guy was here to help us with any questions

there was somthing i read in peterson's offroad mag that if the drivetrain is dissasembled before turning it in that the engine can be parted?? It was somthing along those lines, either the october or september issue of this year. I will try to look at what they exactly said. But what if this was true, and the gov. just "forgot" to mention it? I couldn't find reference to it anywhere on the CARS website.....
-
horror........ What were they thinking to mandate vehicle destruction  It would definately be better to donate or part out the cars traded in to the program. I think the country's lawmakers just took a big dump on everyone.

yupp thats how i went..... (my xj)
-
yeah, that is the closest one/ 40 min away and they were charging $250 for a D35!
-
yeah, even tho i have some cash, just can't justify the $60-80 for a new muffler. I'll stick with the cheapies. My manche was catless, I swear it just fell off :brows: (with the help of some power tools)
-
yeah, bout $300 from the only local gouger Pick and pull. 600 for a reman. But the guy does have the know how (supposedly) to do the perches/mounts for everything (he has a couple jeeps with the 8.8 under them). I'll keep talking to him, see what becomes of it. I want to get a locker, but extra cash and a D35 don't mix
-
Guy near me has a collection of 8.8's. He wants $300 for the 3.55 geared one, and he will set it up for cherokee perches/shock mounts for a little extra. Considering the axle is in good condition with the disks and internals, is this a pretty common price? I bought my d30/35 combo with full stock suspension for $150 so this is a little more change, thanks, jd

got the cherrybomb glasspack welded on today. Sounds very similar to the online clips of the flo master 40's, but i'm sure its different in real life. Note on the cherrybombs (had this on my comanche too) they smell for a little bit while the paint seems to bake on (if this makes any sense). $25.49 at Fleet Farm (even comes with the sticker 4 extra HP!)

yupp somthing along those lines... i think its like 23.99 at the store :brows: cheap (but loud ) I had one on my comanche in place of the cat then a turbo muffler and it sounded alright.
