Sold my '88 for $900 this morning. Family who bought it is going to put a 4.7L stroker 4x4 conversion, and soon to join CC. I now have an untold project of a 1992 XJ. Pics and info soon to come. Now the hunt for a new one begins. . .

yeah, I'm sitting here tonight with about 1.5 ft of snow everywhere and -45 degree wind-chill. Not even all of the dang road salt can melt the ice and snow off the road. My second hand 235's do just fine (tigerpaw highway crap) with my 2wd. I slide a bit if you step on it (thats what the school parking lot is for ;) ) Haven't gotten stuck a single time this year, even made it up my very steep gravel driveway everyday. If I keep the MJ, its getting new AT tires on it next fall.

yeah, I don't like the city very much. I like to be in the wide open area with plenty of room to tromp around. Where I live in MN right now is really nice, and I definitely enjoy the 4 seasons (I'm an avid snowmobiler). But I also really like the desert/arid parts of the country. . . Probably going to Las Vegas/Arizona this spring to visit my grandparents. They have a nice sized piece of land with nobody around for miles.

Went to Texas this past week for a vacation. Visited Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Laredo, South Padre, McAllen, and Corpus Christi. Very nice weather compared to the winter here in Minnesota. It was 75 degrees out when i swam in the ocean for the first time, everyone thought we were crazy. A group of 40 Minnesota kids running down the beach and diving into the water when all the locals were dressed in sweatshirts and pants. Anyone else's opinion of the state?

no problem, sometimes the best information is off the main topic ;) Threw some HEET in to see if it just had water in it. Let it sit last night and started it up with no problems in revving or anything else that was happening before. Need to test drive it still. Ordered a new fuel filter just to be safe (only $6). I wonder if since the tank was empty when I parked it (went to Texas this past week LOVE THE WEATHER!) that the water vapor in the air condensed and just dumped a crap load of water into the remaining fuel... Will test drive it tomorrow. Thanks for the information. JD

Running low on fuel, took it up to town and fillled it up. Taking it home, stumbles under any push of the pedal. Thinking it must be clogged fuel filter or injectors from sucking crap up from the bottom of the tank. Need a little help.

I use cables on my '88 and 235-75 tires. I'm in SE Minnesota, we just got about 6-9 inches of snow everywhere (on top of about 4 in.) and I still get around really well without any weight in the back (before roads were plowed). I agree with mjeff87 that you should take them off or keep speed under 40 mph or so when encountering dry pavement. Thats all I know for cables.

http://cedarrapids.craigslist.org/cto/938092754.html One owner, 170k miles, 5 spd. 4x4, little rust on rear wells. $1200 Should I jump on it? I know to check floors, frame, and all that. But I have been looking to upgrade to 4x4 :brows: And rust doesn't bother me.

Thats what i was thinking. Just go get one for a pre '91 cherokee/comanche with a 3 wire plug then?
-
Ok, I went out and bought an O2 sensor for the '88. I Go underneath the truck to find an O2 sensor with 3 wires, the new one only has 1. I looked up in the wiring diagram and the orange and grey wires go to different sensors and black is ground. Can you hook up the single wire to make it go to both of the sensors? Hope this makes some sense.
-
yeah, the #3 style is what I have, but with out the running lights.
-
ahh, i get it now. That probably wouldn't be too hard at all. I think that having some little rectangular driving/fog lights or running lights in it like the moon roof would be a cool way to get some extra lighting Like this Jeepco?
-
Very funny  so extend it to hang over the cab sides a little?
-
Yeah, hopefully i can make them for a little cheaper + customization. I could probably make light housings like the moon visor, or change the flow/shape of the visor a little. Any ideas or pics are welcome. JD

What's so great about a Comanche?
edman2007 replied to bilgamesh's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My first vehicle is my MJ. Some of my buddies laugh at my little 2wd beast, i just shrug it off and laugh... My little 20 year old rust-bucket is going to outlast their plastic-mobiles for quite a few years (not to mention it runs better than most of them already too :brows: ) And not to put down other vehicles/brandnames, but I think that jeeps were built to last, not just use up then throw away. Thats just my 2 cents. JD -
No, never had anything like that. I just like doing my own work. And hey, if I can make them cheaper, why not share the goods? :brows: Yeah, i have thought of that (fabbing up fully fiberglass fenders or just the flares). Probably not the pre-runner style, but ones with extended built in flares. But then the question is, what do you do when you hit them on something? Fiberglass probably wouldn't hold up as well as the composites in the bushwackers. JD
-
They would be made by creating a fiberglass mold of the original. then i would be able to create multiple copies whenever needed. Still working on price.
-
If I can get a really good finish on it (no bubbles, nicks or anything), cost of materials plus a couple bucks for time. If not a really good finish then just cost of materials. It was just a thought, ill try to get a price on the materials soon.
-
the one like hornbrod has on his truck (outside)
-
I just picked up the sun visor from the P.O. who had it stuffed away in his garage for a year since i bought the MJ. Would anyone be interested if I could fab up some decent copies of it? Just a thought instead of paying $200+ for a new one. Thanks, JD
-
yeah its 4wd. It has the 2wd, 4 part time, 4 full time, and 4 low. What T-case is that with? Probably going to jump on this one and make the MJ a project truck instead of DD.

http://www.findcars.com/a.php3?q=301236 White XJ Country, Leather seats, woodgrain dash trim, star wheels, decent tires. This is listed for $1500. 200k miles, no rust anywhere. Small chips out of the back bumper, and one hammer sized dent in the hatch. Considering it runs well and transmission seems decent, is this a decent price for the condition? I don't know much about the pricing of XJ's, but this is the cheapest one i have seen for the year/miles up here. Thanks, JD
-
Yeah, i have been calculating with a -5% error in mileage. (if i go 100 miles on the odometer, then it is really 105) I'll be going through all of the tuneup stuff and come back with some results. Hopefully they are positive

Ok, my 5 speed 2wd 4.0l mj is getting around 15 mpg right now :hmm: (easy driving) seems a little low to me. It has 235 tires with stock gearing (around 2k rpm in 4th at 55 with tire size compensation). The exhaust is a little open with a glass pack and cherry bomb turbo muffler (stock pipe diameter). Ran seafoam recently to clean out fuel system. Going to replace the O2 sensor, anything else i should look at? Thanks, JD

Hey, well you all are better off than me  I only get five (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS) fuzzy channels (on a clear day). But hey, why pay for T.V.? (until February anyways... :hateputers:)
