Thanks Art, Its not nearly as bad as it looks!!! A couple hours with the "heavy duty" wire wheel and I'm at brite and shiny steel!!! Repeated hammer blows sound a nice solid note. Tonight I stripped almost everything to bare steel. Where it was good steel, I only quickly went over the metal to abrade it for paint adhesion. I cleaned the bad areas to bare metal and they are all ready to fit the patch panels and weld them in. For those patch panels, it looks like inside, out and bottom for both sides in front of the spring hangers. Then only the outside and bottom on the pass side between the hangers. The area behind the gas tank, inside of the frame, cleaned up nicely and appears OK with a good coat of http://www.rustbullet.com . Here is the patch panel, weld areas: Here is a first coat of RUST BULLET. I am going to finish with POR 15. Looks great with the rut paint on it!!! More to come.....

Some fog lite manufactures use tinted reflectors in there fog lites. IE PIAA and LITEFORCE for an example. How about watching for a big brand on EBay or somewhere else used? I picked up a set some years back like this, less than half price and great set of lites!! I have had good luck with HELLA lites also. CW

Well I pulled the bed and dropped the tank tonight. All sans one bolt came easily out. I will even be able to reuse all tank "J" Bolts!!! I found a bit more rust damage behind the tank, but not as bad as what I saw before. Here is the rust holes before any work. the biggest issues are right in front of front leaf mounts. Pass side is the worst. Then after about an hour with the wire brush, a hammer and a sawzall.... I also have a badly leaking gas tank. Kinda thought it was just the gasket as I have had to change the fuel pump twice and reused the same, 20 year old, factory gasket.  BIUT NO... Where the tank straps contacted the tank its rusted thru. Time for a new tank. SO, along with the frame repairs. I figured its was best and easiest to just pull the bed and "have at it". Then after about an hour with a wire brush and the air hose... tomorrow I am going to dive in with the high-speed grinder with the big business wire-wheel!!!  :D Here is some pics of the rust... Here is a couple neat shots up the frame rails..... You can see I need to address the bumper mount too... More to come!!!

best spark plugs for a 4.0 (02 grand cherokee)?
CWLONGSHOT replied to brdhntr's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
IMHO, Stick with factory recommended Auto-lite/Champion copper plugs. Ours are old technology, don't try to polish a turd... CW -

A TRE is on the frame end. GLAD you found it so fast!!! Good job! CW -
I understand your thinking, but for me a gun is something I will be staking my life on. Its gonna be the best I can attain and its going to be cared for as it will care for me in the long run. I know mine is, and I assume your life is worth more to you than a $200 walmart mossberg shotgun. CW

They do... I am speaking of the rear axle. When I speak of a D44 front I am speaking of the scout axle. Sorry for the confusion. CW

OK here is another angle... is the gauge reading correct temperatures? How could your other jeep run at a lower temp than the stat? I mean your engine will EASILY surpass this temp if the flow is blocked as it is when a stat is in place. SO, either your stat is stuck open, its not a 195 stat or your temp gauge is not reading correct temps. CW

You could try a flush and fill to see if there was anything in there to get out... Do you have a Rad shop nearby to pressure test it? My MJ will creep up in temp on the freeway if I push it above 70 for any length of time in the summer. Sitting in hot city traffic in the summer will also do this. Mine is brandy new and a three core with a 190 T stat and new fluid all last year. But I have a winch up front partially blocking the rad... A AC cooling fan wired with a switch helps ALLOT!!! Head to the junk yard and get yourself one. They just have marginal cooling IMHO...

BLHTAZ is spot on correct! DW is NOT caused by a steering stabilizer. It CANNOT be, there fore, suggesting you replace the steering stabilizer to stop DW is foolish. It WILL mask the DW effects, but will never stop them. You need to have a good look at your steering and front suspension components. Do like Pete suggest AND, Have a friend forcefully move the steering wheel back and forth while you lay in front and observe everything. Tire balance or bad tires are another cause. Ball joints and wheel hubs can do it as well. All easily checked by you at home. Have you made any changes to the suspension? CW -
These are good axles as others have said, nice upgrade. You know about the dirvers side drop and the metric brake lines on the Isuzu and assuming Honda as well. One other thing, the caster on the scout front axle is not great for a Jeep. I don't completely remember the fix, but seem to remember CJ knuckles..... Maybe a internet search will produce the answers. CW

This is actually quite timely... I recently had Google pull out of a gun forum I am on. Saying that they do not want to associate with the trafficking of firearms. BUT they will not stop searching and making money OFF firearms now will they?? TYPICAL hypocritical response!! I don't mind someone with an opinion different than mine, just HATE a F'in hypocrite!!!! SO.. This FireFox and a different search page is in my future..anyone wanna help guide me?? I currently have google as my opening page. How do I change this in Vista? CW

bumpstops....hockey pucks
CWLONGSHOT replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I agree, your going to have to pull that coil to do it correctly... I tapped mine 3/8x16. Something else to consider. Its best to install longer top bumps in conjunction with the pucks at the bottom. CW -
Off-road only?? If so go swamper and forget the rest they are posers.... If your needing street driving, (at all) I vote for the BFG MT's. I have had 3-4 sets, great tires. CW

Correction, WJ's have a funky alum housing D44 axle. Known to eat carrier bearings. 5.2L V8 ZJs had a D35!!!!! Unsure what the 5.9's got. Possibly some late production ZJ's got this alum D44 axle as well. After all, its a Jeep and NOTHING is set in stone as far as build parts. :D CW

I picked up a couple sheets of steel for the frame rebuild!!! CW

Converting a RH 870 safety to LH operation is NOT a complicated process. http://www.davesmetalworks.com sells the safety you need. Also Midway carries a left handed safety for Remington shotguns. It is product # 463939. many gunsmiths have been doing this conversion for many years. Cost should be under $50 bucks. CW PS: Here is one I tricked out! :brows:

Thanks, that's pretty much what I have been doing. Only I right click and copy, then re-login and reply (AGAIN) and paste in that window. As a matter of fact, It just did it again on this post.... I copied and saved typing it all over... Like I said before... WHY WHY WHY :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: CW

Are you suggesting I am hitting this inadvertently or i SHOULD be hitting it??? Pete, I log in, check my posts, then check new posts. I found one and responded. Obviously I was logged as I was able to get the window to make a reply. The when I click submit, I am brought to the login screen. No I cannot back up to the post. My only option is to log in again and re-post. Which I have done many times. Once it happens I remember to copy paste the entire post before submitting so if it happens again, I only need log in again, click reply again and paste.... Frustrating to say the least... Brandy new Dell Studio lap top with Internet Explorer and vista. CW
