The previous posters are correct, depending on your year you may or may not have to remove the tone ring. But as Mvusse said, they come off easily. The CV has a better tuning radius as well. So if you experienced any binding at or near full lock. With the new shaft this should be gone. These shafts where used in the full time 4WD vehicles and the cost is pretty reasonable as well! CW

Two aliens landed in the outback, near a roadhouse that was closed for the night. They approached one of the petrol pumps and the younger alien addressed it saying, "Greetings, Earthling. We come in peace. Take us to your leader." The petrol pump, of course, didn't respond. The younger alien became angry at the lack of response. The older alien said, 'I'd calm down if I were you.' The younger alien ignored the warning and repeated his greeting. Again, there was no response. Pissed at the pump's haughty attitude, he drew his ray gun and said gruffly, "Greetings, Earthling. We come in peace. Take us to your leader or I will fire!" The older alien again warned his comrade saying, 'You probably don't want to do that! I really think that will make him mad.' 'Rubbish,' replied the cocky, young alien. He aimed his weapon and opened fire. There was a huge explosion. A massive fireball roared towards him and blew the younger alien off his feet and threw him in a burnt, smoking mess about 200 yards away into the scrub. Half an hour passed. When he finally regained consciousness, he refocused his three eyes, straightened his bent antenna, and looked dazedly at the older, wiser alien who was standing over him shaking his big, green head. 'What a ferocious creature!' exclaimed the young, fried alien. 'He damn near killed me! How did you know he was so dangerous?' The older alien leaned over, placed a friendly feeler on his crispy friend and replied, 'If there's one thing I've learned during my intergalactic travels, you never mess with a guy who can loop his penis over his shoulder twice and then stick it in his ear.'

This is where uni-bodys SUK!!! They transmit noises to the far reaches of the body... making diagnosis darn near impossible.... That being said, CAs are a good guess. If your gonna stay with stock arms, don't even think of replacing the bushings... Complete factory arms, with bushings are not very expensive!! As a mater of fact, if you do have me weld up your links, I have a couple sets of upper CAs. I'll throw two of the best ones in the box for the return trip... CW

Make accurate measurements, and ship them up to me, I'll weld them up and ship them back to you... CW -
In my case, I just have a little clunk when I let off the gas. I was underneath looking at the tract of water from the drip pans and noticed they where badly dry rotten from the bottom. What little can be seen of them from the top looks fine. CW

Wider stance?backspaceing question....again
CWLONGSHOT replied to smithe1811's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have been running spacers on the MJ for some time now. I was a anti spacer guy for some time. I still think they can be dangerous if not installed and maintained properly. Having said this, they will and do work just fine if you keep up your end of the bargain. This is going thru the proper torquing and re torquing for the first couple hundred miles. Mine usually require doing this three times before they no longer loosen. SOME tell you its OK to lock tite them on. I do not. As you may know, I am now running RUBY rims and 285/75x16 tires and although they will fit without spacers, they will rub the frame in the back. Also I haven't stuffed the fronts yet to check clearances as these rims and spacers. This rim is 8" wide and the previous rims used with the spacers 7" and didn't touch. CW -
Danboone5, Chevy drop shackles are a nice upgrade but will offer very little lift if they are a factory part. If aft mkt, I would resist using one longer than 7.5 or 8" eye to eye. Incommando, I assume your asking about the shackles. But in-case your not, a spacer is just that, a various thickness piece of material, usually a poly that sits on top of the front coil spring lifting the vehicle. A Chevy drop shackle is usually just a bit longer than a factory MJ shackle. but is boomerang shaped and more heavy duty. its a nice upgrade to the stock MJ shackle. its called a "drop shackle" because they come off a Chevy truck with inverted shackles. In other words the frame appears to hang off the shackle as opposed to the shackle "holding up" the frame as on out trucks. CW

Courage. You're a 19 year old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam . It's November 11, 1967. LZ (landing zone) X-ray. Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 yards away, that your CO has ordered the MedEvac helicopters to stop coming in. You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter. You look up to see a Huey coming in. But ... It doesn't seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it. Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you. He's not MedEvac so it's not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway. Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway. And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board. Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety. And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!! Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm. He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey. Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died last Wednesday at the age of 70, in Boise, Idaho . May God Bless and Rest His Soul. I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, but we've sure seen a whole bunch about Michael Jackson and Tiger Woods. Medal of Honor Winner Captain Ed Freeman Shame on the American media !!! Now ... YOU pass this along to YOUR mailing list. Honor this real American. Please.

I for one do like the look of these! If it didn't see the trail, I would definitely have one on my MJ!!! Just sayin'. CW

Guys, You gotta remember many of these are recorded with only she knowing it was recorded. So her coming off as so calm and collected is more understandable. Also according to the news, (If you can believe ANYTHING they say) she has been trying to get $$$ out of him anyway possible. He sounds like a guy who is smitten with a woman who is pushing all his buttons. He is extremely frustrated and is continuing like someone who thinks this is a "repairable" problem. Personally I don't give this much thought, but so far hasn't tainted my opinions of the man. IMHO, SHE is gold digging trash. Attractive as she may be. This is not a slight, but many of you are too young to know all the idiosyncrasies of such a relationship. She is young and beautiful, He is a rich aging "movie star". Probably doesn't possess the self-esteem he exudes in his movies. I have but one statement to make... BEWARE OF THE POWER OF PUZZY... It's a damn good thing most women are unaware of its true power... this is a prime example of one that knows. CW

I'm glad you fixed it, but a bad O2 isn't gonna make it smell of gas. What did you do to fix the gas smell? CW

I have herd this too, the last time I just took both and used the correct one and returned the other. I cannot remember the differences. Could be 4cyl/6cyl. Some applications in the parts books are vague in the after market. My complaint as well as the OP's I'm guessing. Is the longevity of the pumps. They simply do not last. Its not a awful job in the MJ, but its no walk in the park. Considering the stock pump usually lasts twenty + years and the aftermarket crap usually doesn't make it to its 2 or 3 birthday. That's not so good... The aftermarket pumps are about 75- 100$ and the stocker is almost 400$ its not a surprise most go with the aftermarket. Especially seeing a name like BOSCH as the manufacturer. But its a false sense of security, these pumps simply do not last like the NOS parts. CW

5-5/8" BS is not a jeep BS, what is the source of the rims? I'm betting they are a Jeep rim and you measured from the back of the rims lip, not the actual bead. That would give you the extra 1/8". In any event its not enough to make a difference with stock sized tires. But 265/75x16 is NOT a stock size and is pretty wide. Basically its a 32x11x16 tire and will rub the LCA if its stock MJ. Would likely clear a WJ LCA and will clear a aftermarket tubular CA. May not fit if you don't have a lift. 31's will fit most stock trucks that don't sag too badly. Generally a 30x9.5 is considered the largest that will fit on stock rims, with zero problems. A 1.5/2" spacer up front and a small shackle or add-a-leaf out back should give enough room. I have this size (Only 15") on my XJ with a 3" lift and aftermarket LCA's. They fit and fill the wheel wells nicely. CW

What is preferred? POLY or RUBBER? I have poly in the TJ and they are fine, but kinda hesitate in the MJ with the uni-body MJ... :dunno: What do you all think?? CW

The horn button in my wheel SUX!!! It will blow if pressed about half the time and NEVER when you need it!! The contacts are worn. I have had it apart once long ago and cleaned up/out all the old grease and it was better, but not fixed. With the parts guys we have here, I am wondering if these parts are still available from the factory and if anyone else has this problem and has repaired it!! I need to swap out my key switch as mine is badly worn and would like to tackle both jobs at once... I could just head to the dealership and get these answers, but figured I would ask the "experts" here first... CW
