All inclusive Long Arm upgrade thread:

Why not? I have the RK 3 link setup, and it handles great. I don't have a hell of a lot of road miles on it... but from what I have driven it on the road it does fine and handles like a lifted jeep. I know some people like it. Unless everything else in the suspension is near perfect, its a DW magnet. I have personally seen four 3link kits that brought the MAJOR SUK, to the vehicles that they where mounted on. Let me clarify, OFF ROAD they are just fine, actually articulation better then many setups. But ON ROAD, DW and quirky handling was the norm, not the exception. IMHO, 3 link suspension is just not enough for the other variables associated with a lifted, large tired off road jeep. If it was so good, ANY one of the major manufacturers would have it on there factory vehicles... -
WHY NOT!! Good show!!! Post up what you find!! I have one on my TJ, with complete free flowing exhaust, K&N intake and a larger 62MM TB, I DO FEEL a difference. It's got a whine like a turbo with the air rushing into the bore!! CW

tire choices....need some opinions
CWLONGSHOT replied to 88pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I know there are some other good tires out there, and I hate sounding like a broken record. But every time I am in your position I keep going back to the excellent BFG line of tires. For you I would highly recommend the AT tire. its snow traction is excellent, its dirt road trail traction es equally as good. About the only place these are not good is deep mud and you say that's not a worry. They are a tad nosier then other AT tires, but its a truck, get over it!! :D I just took a set of the XJ with almost 70,000 miles and have a set for the MJ for the road in the winter. I have had at least four sets of them thru the years, they always wear past 60,000 miles. You WILL get your moneys worth!!! CW -
Computer issues SUK!!! I had the same thing happen a couple months ago.. Cool pix on the hogs, I know there are a real problem for allot of the southeastern states.... They haven't gotten up here yet... I hear whispers about some here and there but never seen any here. CW

GREAT IDEA!!! If I did a long arm. (I HAVE been thinking it over :brows: ) I wouldn't even think about a 3 link for a street driven vehicle. I also wouldn't look any farther then the CLAYTONS kit... CW -
Ya don't need to worry/bother with your recovery gear slip'n off. I also prefer them. The truck looks GREAT!! I also do not like hooks and prefer D-rings. They are simply safer. I haven't added the thimble to the TJ's cable. But I LOVE it on the MJ syn rope!!! Here is the TJ: Here is the MJ: The MJ's rear bumper is getting two of these as soon as they make some up for me!! These are designed for a 2" thick bumper, mine is 4". :D ALL D RINGS!! CW

I got a couple annoying problems fixed today... That LED licence plate lite I put on a month or so back. The wires are so freakin fine. I cannot keep them in adequate contact to keep them working!!! Today I soldered them in! They will remain working now!!! Then I routed the CB antenna wire. I zip tied it to the gate in about 4-5 spots. Leaving nice graceful arches @ every corner. Then I ran it along the bed rail with metal straps and screws, every 12". Over the top of the bed, between the cab and bed into the cab beneath the splash guards. I silicone up the hole in the cab and ran the wire up between the seats into the back of the CB. 20" was PERFECT!!! My buddie bought me a skull hitch lite as a gag for my birthday last week. That got mounted and put on. Its got lites in the eyes with the marker lites and brakes too. Then I finished the switch wiring on the Ahooga horn. I wanted it accessible but didn't want it with the other switches. I also didn't want it on a on/off switch. I picked up a momentary on switch @ Radio Shack and put that on the end of a 14" piece of 1/2" rubber fuel line. I attached the hose to the dash on the right side of the wheel with two more metal straps. Its ridged enough so I can slap the button and the horn blows. I like it!! CW

Hey Pat, How do those Dunlops wear for you? I had a set of 31's 20 years ago on a '77Ford Pickup. They wore out far too fast IMHO... Just wondered if they are wearing better now-a-days. CW

That sounds correct, I'll tell you that it will drive and "feel" best at 8/9. But watch your front DS angles!! CW
-
Just look at your factory mounts and build ones just like them with thicker stock!! Mine also have integrated side protection that wraps around and is tied into the frame again behind the rear tire. Then I added two pieces of 1" thick walled stock, angled to the rear tires from the center receiver. Tied into the "X" of the rear frame @ mid point and again at the ends just behind the rear tires. I say that every time I jump in mine!!!

Momma anted me out of the kitchen and outta her hair!!! SO, I headed out to the garage!! I swapped the battery in the XJ, only to find that it was toast.. ONLY 8 years out of it.. Then I swapped the tires on it and changed the oil too. Then I wired up pops horn and straightened up the garage too!! CW
