We just concluded a Maine Vacation to the Jackman area. There is a huge ATV/Sno machine community there. ( I spied one VERY CLEAN white Comanche just outside of Jackman!!) My wife and I rode three different machines all week and had a blast. Now we are hooked and already planning the next excursion!! Been surfing a bit looking at used machines, something to start with. I had a Suzuki Quad Sport I bought new in 1985. Its long gone, but this trip rekindled my love affair with quads. I am going with a 4x4 something at least 400cc's, 500 would be better as it will be two of us to start. If the wife really takes to it, she will get her own machine. This is logging road riding, minor rock work. 4x4 rarely necessary. My buddie has a 2005 Polaris Sportsman 500. We drove this most of the time. The power very good, ride excellent, CVT tranny not my favorite. But this isn't a strike against Polaris there was a a Can am 800 and a Yamaha 350 and all where near the same feeling and noises "slushiness". I also rode a Suzuki EIGER 400. This is a auto clutch but manual shift and I liked this MUCH better. Power also very good. the littlest machine was a Yamaha 350, my buddies wife's machine. Rode excellent, the RPMs where up for the same speeds telling me it was under powdered. But it felt good, I mean if you jabbed the throttle it went. We are traveling logging roads and quad trails at 15-30MPH, nothing faster and the majority was under 20-25MPH. Racks and a back seat, weather I add it or it comes with the machine doesn't matter would be a necessity. I also measured and all but the widest WILL fit in my jeep trailer!!! What do you have and what would you recommend or have for advice, keeping with in the riding requirements. I am not looking for a machine to blast around the dunes, been there done that with the second machine I owned.. a Suzuki Quad racer 250 2stroke. :brows:

This is a good one for us all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTb6qdPu8JE This is pretty neat.....(30 second video) ... Have you ever seen one of our military walking past you and wanted to convey to them your thanks, but weren't sure how or it felt awkward? Recently, a gentleman from Seattle commandeered a gesture (from sign language for the deaf)which could be used and has started a movement to get the word out. Please take just a moment to watch.... The Gratitude Campaign; .......and then forward it to your friends! THEN START USING THE SIGN. It’ll be appreciated by our service men and women. I have been on vacation, and neglecting this thread....SO I have a couple posts to add!!! ;) You might want to print this, cut it out and put it on your fridge, so you won't forget. Retribution is only 4 months away! Take a look at this and just remember elections in November 2010. U..S. House & Senate have voted themselves $4,700 and $5,300 raises. They voted to NOT give you a S.S. cost of living raise in 2010 and 2011. Your Medicare premiums will go up $285.60 for 2-years You will not get the 3% COLA: $660/yr. Your total 2-yr loss and cost is $1,600 or $3,200 for husband and wife. Over these same 2-years each Congress person will get $10,000. Do you feel SCREWED? Will they have your cost of drugs - doctor fees - local taxes - food, etc., decrease? NO WAY. Congress received a raise and has better health and retirement benefits than you or I. Why should they care about you? You never did anything about it in the past. You obviously are too stupid or don't care. Send the message to these individuals --- "YOU'RE FIRED!" In 2010 you will have a chance to get rid of the sitting Congress: up to 1/3 of the Senate and 100% of the House! Make sure you're still mad in November 2010 and remind their replacements not to screw-up. It is ok to forward this to your sphere of influence if you are finally tired of the abuse. Maybe it's time for Amendment 28 to the Constitution.. 28th Amendment will be as follows: "Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States ." Let's get this passed around, folks - these people in Washington have brought this upon themselves! It's time for retribution. Let's take back America . If you don't forward this to all your friends you're just part of the problem of national apathy.

VERY COOL PICTURES MAN!!!! Thanks for sharing... kinda cools down the mid 90 degree temps we have had of late. CW

Here in Meriden we where lucky, we only got heavy rain. VERY close by severe damage with possibly two separate tornadoes!!! My brother in Plainville had hail and heavy winds. He is OK but neighbors lost trees, windows and anything loose in the yards. One sister in New Britain also got hail almost golf ball sized. Lots of damage to cars and windows, trees toppled there too. Other sister in Naugatuck had a close call with one tornado. Naugatuck for those that don't know is in a valley and seems to get more than there share of bad weather. She is just south of Torrington where many of the bad storms begin. When this happens they seem to run right down that valley to the ocean. The tornado earlier in the month in Bridgeport, that's on the shore near the end of that valley... Good news is everyone is fine and overall very little damage to my family. Others have not been so lucky. Glad to hear CC members so far have made it thru fine.  CW

Hey CW! Break out your wallet! Got a trailer for ya!
CWLONGSHOT replied to dasbulliwagen's topic in The Pub
I saw that they where considering these...didn't know it was a reality!!! Could be pretty cool!!! I don't do enough camping to justify such a trailer mounted tent thingy, but it IS COOL!!! CW -
does this look normal?
CWLONGSHOT replied to comanche12's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That is a FORD front axle grafted into your jeep with home made long arms and mid mount. In that case, YES twisted coil are normal as its not a perfect fit. Pete has a similar (BUT CORRECT) Ford radius arm suspension in his MJ. Most all the advice recieved (sans the comments on the scary welds) are not applicable to your setup. CW -
Good point, some of us are referring to this as a easy job are talking about an axle SWAP, NOT a rebuild. A REBUILD is not something for the armature. It takes some specialized tools and expertise. Usually more so than the average shade tree mechanic. (I recommend the complete axle swap) Something else to remember. MOST yards drain the fluids. SO if you go this route, be sure to check this and refill it to the proper levels with hypoid gear oil!! CW

Dicks New to Me MJ Build
CWLONGSHOT replied to dick.breakey's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I quickly skimmed over the 17 odd pages...he doesn't much like pics do he!! :dunno: :rotf: SEEMS like its a good build, nice ideas anyhow... the front bumper looks nice. I would like to see the whole package in greater detail... Good luck with it. CW -
does this look normal?
CWLONGSHOT replied to comanche12's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Wow.. dem pic remind me of some old TACO BELL commercials about twisted necks from tilting them to eat tacos... Some excellent grammar and terminology going on too... :rotf: :huh???: Lower Control Arms, or LCA's are the "lower links" Auto is asking you about. (Shame on you man! ) Here is the chart he was refering to as well... http://www.yuccaman.com/jeep/re_db.html Down at the bottom of the page. Just remember this is a GUIDE as its for the use of drop brackets. Pete is right, :agree: you need to check and see what your caster measurement is. Its very common for our trucks to lean to one side. If it really bothers you, throw a small spacer on the one side thats lower... CW -
Exactly my question... I'm not as "up" on these. But if wanting the drive train, be sure of axle widths, front axle drops and version of the D44. (Spline counts & disc brakes) If wanted for a complete vehicle. (2DRs are Very cool) I would want to see the frame and body rust/rot. Overall looks OK, but seems a bit rich to me. I would bring cash and offer less, CW

As described, this is a debate for the eons. Miss information abounds. With out insulting, we do not know what you know. You have a couple good explanations of a factory clutch type limited slip differential. But that's the tip of the LS picture. Age of the unit and its manufacture makes big differences. Again as mentioned the jeep/ford Track loc differentials are anemic at best. Torsens and Tru-tracs are about the best. One thing in common with all limited slip diffs is lift a tire and you have defeated them. The best ones are very good in front axles with a locker in the rear. They allow for steering when a locker will at the very least restrict the ability to steer. Most of us drive our trucks on the street daily then wheel it on the weekends. most of us would be best served with this kind of setup. Lockers lock the two axle shafts. No matter what happens to the tires. Lift a tire in the air and it still turns no faster then the one on the other side of the axle tube. Resulting in nearly no loss in forward momentum. Whats the best setup? Who knows it will drastically change with ones driving style, driving experience and trail conditions. Personally, I have always done a rear locker first, followed by a tru-trac or another locker up front. Its not rite or wrong, simply what I have done. CW

That's about it for the swap... You should also use new U Bolts. Lastly you will need to do the brakes. Rust and corrosion will ruin the pads, then the related springs to dust and backing plates to paper. Quite possibly the discs/drums themselves could be turned to resurface if thick enough. Its a better bet to swap over your known good parts from the stock axle. Its not a hard job. If you have mechanical abilities basic knowledge of vehicle suspensions, you will get it done in a day or less. CW

I stopped by the Toyota Dealership yesterday for a look at the new Tacoma . Just for fun, I took it out for a test drive. I wanted to sense that new "feel." The salesman (wearing an Obama "change" lapel pin) sat in the passenger seat describing the truck and all its "wonderful" options. The seats were of particular interest. He explained that the seats directed warm air to your butt in the winter and directed cool air to your butt in the summer heat. Feeling like messing with his mind, I mentioned that this must be a Republican truck. Looking a bit angry, he asked why I thought it was a Republican truck. I explained that if it were a Democrat truck, the seats would blow smoke up your @$$ year-round. :rotf: :clapping:  I had to walk back to the dealership... he had no sense of humor.

The truth about Sarah Palin, etc. Sarah Palin Democrat, Independent, or Republican....the second half of this email should make all of us sick, send this on .....especially the second half...... READ TO THE VERY END! VERY ENLIGHTENING!!! AND VERY DISTURBING!!! By Dewie Whetsell, Alaskan Fisherman. As posted in comments on Greta's article referencing the MOVE ON ad about Sarah Palin. The last 45 of my 66 years I've spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska . I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here's the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it. It's not about persona, style, rhetoric, it's about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I'm about to mention here. 1. Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governor's office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republicans "Corrupt Bastards Club" (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and wearing orange jump suits The Democrats reacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing, "la la la la" (well, you know how they are). Name another governor in this country that has ever done anything similar. 2. Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect the huge, giant oil companies here. So she constructed and enacted a new system of splitting the oil profits called "ACES." Exxon (the biggest corporation in the world) protested and Sarah told them, "don't let the door hit you in the stern on your way out." They stayed, in Alaska residents went from being merely wealthy to being filthy rich. Of course, the other huge international oil companies meekly fell in line. Again, give me the name of any other governor in the country that has done anything similar. 3. The other thing she did when she walked into the governor's office is she got the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as "pork." She went through the list, took 85% of the m and placed them in the "when-hell-freezes-over" stack. She let locals know that if we need something built, we'll pay for it ourselves. Maybe she figured she could use the money she got from selling the previous governor's jet because it was extravagant. Maybe she could use the money she saved by dismissing the governor's cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), giving back the State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and dismissing her State provided security force (never mentioning - I imagine - that she's packing heat herself). I'm still waiting to hear the names of those other governors. 4. Now, even with her much-ridiculed "gosh and golly" mannerism, she also managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a natural gas pipeline built which will be the biggest private construction project in the history of North America. No one else could do it although they tried. If that doesn't impress you, then you're trying too hard to be unimpressed while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies with her other hand. 5. For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time why they couldn't start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment. No governor for 30 years could make them get started. Then, she told them she was revoking their lease and kicking them out. They protested and threatened court action. She shrugged and reminded them that she knew the way to the court house. Alaska Won again. 6. President Obama wants the nation to be on 25% renewable resources for electricity by 2025. Sarah went to the legislature and submitted her plan for Alaska to be at 50% renewable by 2025. We are already at 25%. I can give you more specifics about things done, as opposed to style and persona. Everybody wants to be cool, sound cool, look cool. But that's just a cover-up. I'm still waiting to hear from liberals the names of other governors who can match what mine has done in two and a half years. I won't be holding my breath. By the way, she was content to return to AK after the national election and go to work, but the haters wouldn't let her. Now these adolescent screeches are obviously not scuba divers. And no one ever told them what happens when you continually jab and pester a barracuda. Without warning, it will spin around and tear your face off. Should have known better. You have just read the truth about Sarah Palin that sends the media, along with the democrat party, into a wild uncontrolled frenzy to discredit her. I guess they are only interested in skirt chasers, dishonesty, immoral people, liars, womanizers, murderers, and bitter ex-presidents' wives. So "You go, Girl." I only wish the men in Washington had your guts, determination, honesty, and morals. I rest my case. Only FOOLS listen to the biased media. Which side of the fence? If you ever wondered which side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test! If a Republican doesn't like guns, he doesn’t buy one. If a Democrat doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed. If a Republican is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat. If a Democrat is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone. If a Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life. If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect. If a Republican is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A Democrat wonders who is going to take care of him. If a Republican doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels. Democrats demand that those they don't like be shut down. If a Republican is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church. A Democrat non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. If a Republican decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it. A Democrat demands that the rest of us pay for his. If a Republican reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh. A Democrat will delete it because he's "offended". Well, I forwarded it. :D

Cause whoever the last owner was, was not good on keeping up maintenance. The oil was very black when changed. The p/s and coolant are low and I figured best to start off completely fresh. In just six months, the largest tax hikes in the history of America will take effect. They will hit families and small businesses in three great waves on January 1, 2011: First Wave: Expiration of 2001 and 2003 Tax Relief In 2001 and 2003, the GOP Congress enacted several tax cuts for investors, small business owners, and families. These will all expire on January 1, 2011: Personal income tax rates will rise. The top income tax rate will rise from 35 to 39.6 percent (this is also the rate at which two-thirds of small business profits are taxed). The lowest rate will rise from 10 to 15 percent. All the rates in between will also rise. Itemized deductions and personal exemptions will again phase out, which has the same mathematical effect as higher marginal tax rates. The full list of marginal rate hikes is below: - The 10% bracket rises to an expanded 15% - The 25% bracket rises to 28% - The 28% bracket rises to 31% - The 33% bracket rises to 36% - The 35% bracket rises to 39.6% Higher taxes on marriage and family. The “marriage penalty” (narrower tax brackets for married couples) will return from the first dollar of income. The child tax credit will be cut in half from $1000 to $500 per child. The standard deduction will no longer be doubled for married couples relative to the single level. The dependent care and adoption tax credits will be cut. The return of the Death Tax. This year, there is no death tax. For those dying on or after January 1 2011, there is a 55 percent top death tax rate on estates over $1 million. A person leaving behind two homes and a retirement account could easily pass along a death tax bill to their loved ones. Higher tax rates on savers and investors. The capital gains tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 20 percent in 2011. The dividends tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 39.6 percent in 2011. These rates will rise another 3.8 percent in 2013. Second Wave: Obamacare There are over twenty new or higher taxes in Obamacare. Several will first go into effect on January 1, 2011. They include: The “Medicine Cabinet Tax” Thanks to Obamacare, Americans will no longer be able to use health savings account (HSA), flexible spending account (FSA), or health reimbursement (HRA) pre-tax dollars to purchase non-prescription, over-the-counter medicines (except insulin). The “Special Needs Kids Tax” This provision of Obamacare imposes a cap on flexible spending accounts (FSAs) of $2500 (Currently, there is no federal government limit). There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children. There are thousands of families with special needs children in the United States, and many of them use FSAs to pay for special needs education. Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington, D.C. (National Child Research Center) can easily exceed $14,000 per year. Under tax rules, FSA dollars can be used to pay for this type of special needs education. The HSA Withdrawal Tax Hike. This provision of Obamacare increases the additional tax on non-medical early withdrawals from an HSA from 10 to 20 percent, disadvantaging them relative to IRAs and other tax-advantaged accounts, which remain at 10 percent. Third Wave: The Alternative Minimum Tax and Employer Tax Hikes When Americans prepare to file their tax returns in January of 2011, they’ll be in for a nasty surprise—the AMT won’t be held harmless, and many tax relief provisions will have expired. The major items include: The AMT will ensnare over 28 million families, up from 4 million last year. According to the left-leaning Tax Policy Center, Congress’ failure to index the AMT will lead to an explosion of AMT taxpaying families—rising from 4 million last year to 28.5 million. These families will have to calculate their tax burdens twice, and pay taxes at the higher level. The AMT was created in 1969 to ensnare a handful of taxpayers. Small business expensing will be slashed and 50% expensing will disappear. Small businesses can normally expense (rather than slowly-deduct, or “depreciate”) equipment purchases up to $250,000. This will be cut all the way down to $25,000. Larger businesses can expense half of their purchases of equipment. In January of 2011, all of it will have to be “depreciated.” Taxes will be raised on all types of businesses. There are literally scores of tax hikes on business that will take place. The biggest is the loss of the “research and experimentation tax credit,” but there are many, many others. Combining high marginal tax rates with the loss of this tax relief will cost jobs. Tax Benefits for Education and Teaching Reduced. The deduction for tuition and fees will not be available. Tax credits for education will be limited. Teachers will no longer be able to deduct classroom expenses. Coverdell Education Savings Accounts will be cut. Employer-provided educational assistance is curtailed. The student loan interest deduction will be disallowed for hundreds of thousands of families. Charitable Contributions from IRAs no longer allowed. Under current law, a retired person with an IRA can contribute up to $100,000 per year directly to a charity from their IRA. This contribution also counts toward an annual “required minimum distribution.” This ability will no longer be there. PDF Version Read more: http://www.atr.org/six-months-untilbr-l ... kes-a5171##ixzz0sY8waPq1 Now your insurance is INCOME on your W2's...... One of the surprises we'll find come next year, is what follows - - a little "surprise" that 99% of us had no idea was included in the "new and improved" healthcare legislation . . . the dupes, er, dopes, who backed this administration will be astonished! Starting in 2011, (next year folks), your W-2 tax form sent by your employer will be increased to show the value of whatever health insurance you are given by the company. It does not matter if that's a private concern or governmental body of some sort. If you're retired? So what; your gross will go up by the amount of insurance you get. You will be required to pay taxes on a large sum of money that you have never seen. Take your tax form you just finished and see what $15,000 or $20,000 additional gross does to your tax debt. That's what you'll pay next year. For many, it also puts you into a new higher bracket so it's even worse. This is how the government is going to buy insurance for the15% that don't have insurance and it's only part of the tax increases. Not believing this??? Here is a research of the summaries..... On page 25 of 29: TITLE IX REVENUE PROVISIONS- SUBTITLE A: REVENUE OFFSET PROVISIONS-(sec. 9001, as modified by sec. 10901) Sec.9002 "requires employers to include in the W-2 form of each employee the aggregate cost of applicable employer sponsored group health coverage that is excludable from the employees gross income." Joan Pryde is the senior tax editor for the Kiplinger letters. Go to Kiplingers and read about 13 tax changes that could affect you. Number 3 is what is above. Why am I sending you this? The same reason I hope you forward this to every single person in your address book. People have the right to know the truth because an election is coming in November.

Mostly no full serve here either. Is full serve your only option? If it is not your only option, I must say a sure sign of a psychological problem is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results each time. ;) :wavey: CW

I prefer to suck it out. You don't get every last drop, but you easily get 95% of it. I use my "sucker" all the time, I change out diff fluid, PS fluid, Brake fluid yearly and refill with fresh fluids. It looks like a grease gun with a tube out the end, but only the "tube" no lever. CW
