Looks good!! GREAT JOB on the pics and write up! You should post this in the tech articles section!!!! Let us know if you find any differences! I put a 62mm on my TJ and found quite a difference, but I also noticed the intake had an even larger hole where the TB mounted. I am not sure this is the case with a renex intake. Good luck, CW

Aftermarket rear bumper
CWLONGSHOT replied to Indyjeepnut's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't have any pics of it, but i used heavy angle iron and fationed bracketry almost identicle to the factory. Just stronger. I also used two more bolts to attach it. I welded the bumper to those new brackets. As a rule I am not a fan of tube bumpers, but these really cam,e out well. I really like how tight I was able to keep it to the body. CW -
Aftermarket rear bumper
CWLONGSHOT replied to Indyjeepnut's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I made my own as well! Here is a peek: For some extra bracing to the receiver hitch. I added angular bracing that ties into the "frame" in four places. Good luck, CW -
GREAT eye, Pete!! Yea it bites hard on that lower corner.....I haven't had the caster checked but I am running the LCA's at 16.5". That should put me in the zone for where I am supposed to be. I have some rust issues on the bed and have been looking at a TJ rear flair swap to solve it. I'll likly do 4 rear TJ flairs and that will also open up the lower corners for some added clearance. I'll also be swapping in a factory legnth set of shackles out back. That will lower the rear by an inch. This was just a test, I really do not want to regear this rig, its supposed to be my DD. I'll likely be putting a set of 31" BFG MT's on it this fall. But it DOES look mighty good!! CW

I decided to see what a set of 33" MTs would look like on my MJ. I LIKE IT!!! Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found What do you think??? CW

Juan, With ignition on and in "run" position. the wire tha DOSEN'T spark when touched to ground, is ground. Now mark that wire. Turn the ign. off, check the other two wires the same way. The one that sparks now, is constant 12V and that makes the remaining one switched 12V's!  :D EASY HUH!! Sorry man....couldn't resist!! Forgive me? CW

newbie here with some lift questions
CWLONGSHOT replied to kidkusu's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Kid, WELCOME!! You have one nice looking MJ!!! Here is a pic of a std MJ spring pack W/a AAL. (The top leaf pack is the RUSTYS 4" leaf and the bottom is the factory) The AAL will have as much arch as the rest of the pack. You will notice the bottom leaf is noting but an overload leaf. Assuming yours is NOT a metric ton truck, who ever installed your AAL, most likely just omited the overload. Metric ton's got an extra leaf from the factory. The AAL will also have different shaped ends than the factory leafs. Here is a pic from just after a AAL install. You can see AAL's position. There are also LONG LEAF AAL's out there. These tend to give a little better ride, and may have the isolation pads on thier ends. BUT will likely be a different thickness than the rest of the pack. As for the steering wheel, YES the allignment shop will straighten it. Its meerly a funtion of the A.O.L. of your draglink. Because of the different lift you now have the axle has shifted. Do you have a adj track bar? With three inches its a good idea to get one. It will allow you to recenter the axle under the Jeep. Good luck, CW -
anyone run 31s with SOA lift?
CWLONGSHOT replied to Oizarod115's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Here is the rear of my MJ. While I am NOT SOA, I AM @ 5.5" of lift. :D Which is about what you'll get SOA anyhow. The tars are TREXUS MT's from Interco, 31X10.5X15 on facroet 10 spoke Jeep rims. Its a bit more wheel well showing than I would like. But look at PU trucks today. Both Chevy and Ford are produsing them with a mile of wheel well and itty bitty tars. I done think mine looks as bad as those!! CW -
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT! It certainly does inhibit acess. My buddy got to re-attach the track bar after the recient ACSO adj and he was bitchin' me a blue streak, because of the skid plate!! :) ROADLESS, no offence, taken!! :) ;) CW
-
While I agree, they really will not do much as off road protection once you get more than 3" or so of lift. They can and do help ON ROAD!! Take a good look at yours after driving on the road for a period of time!! I cleaned and painted mine all up and installed it. Maybe a month and a half ago. Its all dinged and scretched. I gave it a fresh coat of rustolium last week end. :) They also really clean up the look of the area they cover. Image Not Found CW

YUP, I agre, its a 2WD AW4 ... :-D CW

Also check the fuel pump. Not that uncommon, for this to be the pump, causes all kinds of little PITA things... hard starting included. Not fuel = no power!! CW
-
Personally, I would not worry about removing the fluid untill it is out of the vehicle. You could pinch off the lopressure side of the pump and remove. If you HAD to drain, I would get one of those grease gun looking suction guns and suck the fluid out. As for the AC bolt, the fans/ fans shrouds are easily removable. This should gain you enough room to bo what you need to. Good Luck, CW
-
You have a bad ground. I would check in the in the tail lights and adjacent to the font head lights. Out back, if you take off the tail lights, you will see where they ground. Remove the wire, clean the treminal, get a new self tapping screw and reattach in a NEW location. I also prefer to add dielectric grease. Add it between the wire when you crimp it between the screw and connecter before you attach to body and a bit more over the connection. It would be even better if you soldered the connections. Good luck, CW

Cabz, Mine is sitting at close to 6" . I have adjusted the LCA's to 16.5" and I have plenty of room for the steering linkages. I have not really flexed it off road yet, but I did when I readjusted the ACOS after the leaf install, last week. I used my jack in the drive way. CW

A worn track bar cannot cause death wobble. Been there, done that. I drove around most of one winter with a horribly loose track bar because it was too cold and snowy to change it. The only symptom was excessively vague directional control. Tier balance CAN cause death wobble. And a shake that starts at 55 MPH is typically due to tire balance. While technically correct......I have to question the comment. Using your same senerio, driving with bad track bar. While running down the road, you hit a pot hole in a corner. This will be enough to begin the back and forth shaking that is death wobble. SO, the track bar did not "cause" the wobbles, the pot hole did. BUT the track bar stood buy and ALLOWED it to happen, so the track bar is still at fault. I Think I saw this on an episode of LAW & ORDER!!! :D This is exactly what I had happen to me. I bought the jeep knowing it had front end issues. Found a bad track bar and replaced it. I had, had my tars ballanced three times at TWO different places. Driving down the road, I hit a pot hole on a corner and WAMO, Full blown death wobbles!!! After inspection, I found that new track bar I had put in, had a bad bushing in the axle end. On ebay, I found a Skyjacker adj track bar, used, and put that in. (I needed it for a pending lift) AFTER first replacing the bushing with a new one and inspecting the hiem on the frame end. I put it on and tightened everything up. Then, I drove right back and over that same pot hole, on that same strech of road....NO WOBBLES!!! I learned that just because something is new, dosen't mean its not the problem!! I am in agreement with bounty hunter. In my experience, more times than not, when someone gets death wobbles. It turns out to be the track bar. Now its time to get dirty. ;) Check tightness of all related bolts. Have someone forcefully move your steering wheel back and forth. While you lay on the ground and watch the track bar...BOTH ENDS. Do you see any deflection in the bushing on the axle end? I mean is the bushing in there "squishing" at all under the force of the steering? If so, the bushing is a changable item. Now grab the bar near the frame, pull push and twist. Up and down and side to side, there should be zero movement. ANY movement is a problem. The bushing is a changable item. the TRE on the other end means you need a new bar if its factory. Some aft mkt adj track bars have changable frame ends. Good luck, CW

Bad ground. Begin checking in the front near/behind the lights. Good luck, CW

will a 235/75 r15 work on a 15x8 rim?
CWLONGSHOT replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Randy, Nice CJ!! They do look fine, Thats what I was saying, some look fine, while others look like they are riding on the side wall!!!! Seems the allterain variety do ok on the 8", but the run of the mill large car tar do not. CW -
I FINALLY got my leaf springs!!!
CWLONGSHOT replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No issues with the shackles. i jacked it up and put on the tars and drove away? Guess I got lucky??? I do not really know how much is left inside the slip yoke. But I noticed I have about 3/4" shiny steel peeking out from inside there. :) Are you saying you DS fell out????? CW -
will a 235/75 r15 work on a 15x8 rim?
CWLONGSHOT replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have seen some 235's that looked AWEFUL on a 8" rim!! Like they would be running on part of the side wall as you roll down the road!!! While others have looked ok. Personally, I do think it is too wide a rim for a 235 tar. But I tend to prefer a narrow rim, as I like to play in the rocks and wide rims do not hold the bead as well when aired down to single digits. CW -
Tim, I got really lucky and bought mine from another Comanche owner that did not need them anylonger. SO they where all ready mounted to MJ bracketry, ready for me to just bolt in!!! :D 8) CW

I FINALLY got my leaf springs!!!
CWLONGSHOT replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For now, it attaches to the "frame" above the rear tars with a Grade 5 1/2" bolt and nut. Image Not Found But it also transects the cross in the rear of the frame in two spots where I will also add a spacer and two more 1/2" bolts. Image Not Found I made the bracing out of 1" box tube with 1/8" walls. This is the factory drive shaft. Other than it now running about 3/4" out of the tail shaft its is fine. No vibes what so ever. Too bad I found this out AFTER I bought and installed the seats!!! OH Well, I got buckets and they really are not that bad..... CW

Anyone else? I cannot seem to find bed rail caps. I would really like to get these soon!! I was sitting next to a Dakota the otherday. He had some, those LOOK like they would work. I need to check with my local speed shop and see if he can otder something so I could check BEFORE I purchase.... CW
