  1. Well, the lock rite is in the D35 and it works nice. Pretty uneventful and straight forward install. One tip I will offer.... When you unbolt the shafts, PULL the shafts ALL THE WAY out of the carrier, BEFORE trying to remove said carrier!!  Image Not Found I even got to try it out!!! FUN FUN FUN!!! Thanks Juan!! CW
  2. No it had been sitting. The backing plates "look" ok. But won't know for sure till I get to rubbin' the rust off!!! :D CW
  3. Those bulbs are Sylvania Silverstar Halogens. They are not your typical "blue" bulb the kids want for the ricer/tuners now a days. Actually, they are the one thing that DID improved the light out put from this vehicle!!! CW
  4. The factory XJ cover is just like the 8.8 factory cover.....PAPER thin!!! the new one is about 1/8" thick!! I had to evict a family of spyders!!! As well as about a quart of water mixed with the errl!! I also found drums for $39.99 each!! American made toboot!!! CW
  5. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TIE-ROD- ... 3557QQrdZ1 LOOKs identicle the my JCR set up I have on the TJ!!! CW
  6. I picked up a D44 for the MJ today! Its from a 1987 XJ. its got 3:54's open diff. It will be a winter time build as I will be completely rebuilding it as well as re-gearing and adding a traction devise. Image Not Found It spent some time out doors uncovered and out of the jeep: Image Not Found Image Not Found I got a new HD cover today in the mail...gotta LOVE EBAY!!! Image Not Found Saturday the locker goes in the D35 for the winter!!! Pics to come. CW
  7. I couldint find 550's anywhere...I have one more place to look Saturday.... I did pick up a set of 500's. Although if I find the 550 clear fogs, I will bring them back. Image Not Found CW
  8. Here is some pics of what I have... Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found I am going to add two pieces of steel fron the radiator support out and attach the lights there. So I will not have any holes in the front facia when I remove them later. CW
  9. Anything COULD be made to fit. If your asking if it is in any way a bolt on....well NO. :) CW
  10. I feel its just in their design. Its a 1996 Dodge Intrepid. The lights are very small and funny shaped. I checked voltages and rewired them with larger wire. No gain in out put. I have upgraded the bulbs. Minimal gains in out put. I replaced the assemblys with new. No difference. I do keep them clean and polish the outer surface. Maintains out put, but no gains. The rally look is what I really wanted to avoid. But driving home in the rain last night was NOT SAFE!!! We will be getting rid of this car in the very near future. I will attach the bracketry under the hood maybe to the radiator support and extend it out between the hood and grill then mount the light to that. It won't look great, but it will be funtional and won't screw up the car. It WILL get her much better lighting. CW
  11. I second that, for U bolts just BUY NEW!! For the Proportioning valve, its under the MC/brake booster on the wheel well. It looks about the same as the one in your MJ. It just works normally. CW
  12. I did mine for LESS tha half of that!! Of course you need to be able to weld. Got any friends that work for beer and pizza??? :brows: :brows: I am also suspect of those. They do have pinch seam contact but only two "frame" contact points. Whats the deal with "Hitch steel" never heard of such a thing. I think its a lame attempt at a marketing truik. I made mine with simular pinch seam contact and FOUR frame contact points. Mine are also welded to the frame. Pete also has some very stout rails, he chose to go thru the frame and weld to BOTH sides!! Pics of mine are in my post in the MJ BUILD UP's protion of this Bbs. CW
  13. OK guys, WHERE can I get them LOCALLY???? I KNOW NOT TO MANY OF YOU ARE ACTUALLY LOCAL, BUT THE STORES WE SHOP IN COULD BE THE SAME. I thought AutoZone's carried them now I only see the Optic's brand. I guess it is technically Hella, just a subsidary company. They are not what I want. I know I can mail order them from Quadra Tech and have them in a couple days. But I would REALLY like to put them on this week end!!! I am specfically looking for the Hella 550's and or 500's. Sandras lights on the intrepid are HORRID!!! I put on a set of the fancy ricer styled jobbers, but they are like pee holes in the snow!!I resisted putting anything on it as the body style/bumper dosent lend itself to this and still not look hacked. Well, to heck with it its plain not safe in the rain. looks or not, its getting some good lights before we trade it in. I might as well buy good/better lights as I will remove and reinstall on next JEEP. HER JEEP. Back to my question, WHERE HAVE YOU SEEN THEM??? CW
  14. don't get me wrong, you have a GREAT all around tire in your MTR's. As you have seen they are only marjional in the mud. They really shine on the rocks!! CW
  15. Dirty is correct, they are a ALL TERRAIN tire. not a mud tire. Even so a mud tire needs to be spun a bit to throw out the goo. You needed a bit more wheel speed. Sounded like you bounced off the rev limiter, use a higher gear and go! Not to aweful, only a couple tries and you where out!!! Its all good!!! It looked like mighty stiky mud.
  16. I do take lotsa pics,  Its WAY easy now with digital!!! Hope that they that can help!! CW
  17. Unless his XJ has sagged something fierce, he can run 30s with no lift. I ran 'em for years on "Old faithful" (my original 198 XJ that I bought new in January of '88). It is WAY sagged!!!! the 215's it now wears are margional!!! :D So much so that 235's may be the biggest we can get on it!!! Image Not Found CW
  18. Well, I have aquired a 1999 Cryco 8.25 axle AND a D44 from a XJ. Both geared 3:55 same as my MJ is currently. As the 8.25 is very nice and complete drum to drum, it would be a nice addition to the rest of my XJ/MJ parts I have in the back of the garage. I am keeping my eyes open for another SWB MJ or nice 95-96 XJ. I am 99% going with the D44 install into the MJ. BUT, its going to be spring before I have it ready for installation. I am also regearing at that time. It will be a complete rebuild of the axle. In the mean time, I will lock the D35 and see what happens. I have a couple sets of axles so what the heck! I have already blown one D35C on the street with a EZ locker and 31"s. Thanks to my buddie Juan, I get to see if I can do it again!!! :brows:  Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found I'll be throwing it in this week end!! Stay tuned..... CW
  19. Common problem! The truck likely has a disco front axle. Inside the disconect is a fork that moved a splined collar that engages the two piecs axle shaft on the pass side of the axle. Image Not Found Well, whats likely hapening is that the fork is not completely returning to isnt fully dis-engaged position. This funtions via vacuume. Either the tubing has a leak or is unplugged or has a bad part on the T-case. There is a great write up on how to clean and service this part. I believe it is on the www.madredXJ.com site Here is a pic of the disconnect you will need to look for: Image Not Found Image Not Found CW
  20. I gots a DK Blue one!! CW
  21. Should be good. Brake lines should be long enough. Shocks as well. although manjionally so. I am doing the exact same thing on my neighbors XJ so he can run a set of 30's I have been holding for him!! CW
  22. NOT THIS ONE!! THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT!! On the 4.0 Jeep 6 cly. CW
  23. I got the other light tonight. They are very nice, even light. I think they have a bit more flair than the Sylvanias. One thing I did like about the Sylvanias was the "bar" of light they produced in lo-beam. don't get me wrong, these H-4's offer more light its just a bit more spread out. HI-beam is quite focused and higher than the Sylvanias. The Sylvanias always seemed to close together for my taste. If the lo's where right on the his where too low and vice/versa. These H4's seem spot on for my taste. CW
  24. I use Comanche Club Image Hosting It to has been very relyable. There is a free and pay for option. CW
  25. I bought it from my local metal yard. Its 1/16" thick aluminimum diamond plate. I bent and cut it myself. CW
