  1. In colder climates they will "flat spot" when left sitting. Not as bad in warmer climates. Wear, longevity of tread is reduced with bias plys. Off road traction is increases as the carcus of the tire is more flexable. Tell us, what different types of terrain your drive, while offroad and we can better suggest a good tire. CW
  2. No, I am looking to see if anyone has used the MJ leafs (complete) in a XJ. If so, what lift resulted. I am starting on another buildup, for my Father. Starting with a 1987 2door XJ. CW
  3. I have a question about MJ rear stock leafs in the rear of a XJ. I KNOW I have read where its been done..cannot find it? I also know they are longer and have more arch. Hoping to get at least 3.5". What kind of lift will this get? CW
  4. Wasn't that bad...just miss judged the drop on the other side of the rock... Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found The other guys on the run enjoyed my getting hung up... CW
  5. I have the correct materials to recover it...just haven't done it yet. I snapped some better pics of the new steering wheel... CW
  6. The AMC 20 has basicly two faults. 1) Most use a two piece axle shaft. (MJ models do NOT) This is not really as major as most make it out to be. It all falls back on mainaince. Remember, CHECK YOUR NUTS, and you will never have a problem with two piece axles!! 2) Weak housing. Not any weaker than the D35 or XJ D44 really. Just not as strong as it could be. As far as its guts, they are very stout. Only avalible in the MJ in the earliest years in the one ton versions. CW
  7. Thats what I would do!! POST pics!!! Good luck, CW
  8. I got my new speakers in today!!! What a day here!!! 63 degrees in the sun!!!  Did the rears first: Followed by NEW LIGHTS!!!! These are CLEARANCE lights. I have had them for some months. just didnt have the oppertunity to install. I saw someone else here used them as well!! they completely cover the factory hole. I cut some 1/4" plywood for a backer. I cut it bigger than the opening and bored a hole thru the center. Drilled two more holes and screwed together!!! The wiring is confusing. I wired it using the red wire and the Black W/white line. This way they funtion as normal. Than I soldered everything: On to the fronts. I decided to put the crossovers in the kick pannels and the tweeters where the power windows would be. It sounds REALLY GOOD!!! MUCH clean and chrisper then what I had!!! I also took the opertunity for a really good cleaning!!! I also threw on a GRANT steering wheel!!
  9. Sure enough is!!! About the only part of that ad thats right is the rare part!!! :D
  10. You are looking for a 6.5" shackle to get about 1" of lift. Factory is about 4.5". I don't know of one that will get you 1" off the top of my head.... CW
  11. Tires and rims are same. Front axle is a LO pinion but could be swaped in, rear is different (Coils). Steering linkage would be a nice upgrade. Overall, I wouldn't say there is a whole lot there for you. CW
  12. Make sure you take plenty of pics!!! :brows: :brows: :brows: I'll be loosing my puter for a couple days....(Shutting down now) see you all next week!! CW
  13. Here ya go!! http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopi ... &start=150 VERY nice unit!!! CW
  14. I was just sent this and though it would be nice to pass on... Thank you to all the men and women in our armed forces. Who do what the do so we can live in the great country the USA!! I know there are a few of you on here and I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!! http://home.insightbb.com/~armedforcestribute/ CW
  15. Well, I finally got ahold of Jamie from Auburn Gear!! He is one busy guy!!! I had to call him as I don't get good reception at work for him to leave me a message!!! Any way, He says I need a new unit. There is NO D44's avalible just now!!!  This is the MFG!!! He says they should be avalible first part of next week. But thats what he said LAST week...time will tell. I could have removed mine and sent it back for a rebuild. but decided not to deal with the added costs of having the MJ sitting on a lift for a week. Besides, like a friend pointed out, what if they find something wrong that dosent allow my unit to be rebuilt? In that case, I would be getting a new unit anyhow. So I desided to have them send the entire unit. I also asked him to personally bench test this one BEFORE he ships it. As far as the costs this will create...I am on my own!!! :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: SO, if all goes well, I should have the new unit for next week end and get it installed shortly there after!!! I'll keep evaryone posted. CW
  16. As long as the head is the correct 5/16" or 3/8" size, the Grade 8 bolt is perfectly acceptable. BTW, I have bought the correct pins in the "HELP" section at many parts stores. CW
  17. All of my Jeeps now shift instantinously from or into 4WD. Reguardless of surface conditions. Like I said, This was NOT the case before cleaning and adjusting linkages and disco's. The last one I did was exactly as Pete described. The 4WD shifter itself was the problem, VERY hard to move. Good luck!! CW
  18. What color is that!! I LIKE!! CW
  19. Sounds like you need to do some maintaince on your MJ!!! Drain and change the fluid in the T-case. Should be NICE and RED!! Check you linkage to be sure its not dinding. Have someone get in and shift while you watch form underneath. I would also disconnect it from the Tcase. Not the nut on the tab on the Tcase but rather where the rod attaches to the tab. This way you can shift the Tcase yourself from underneath as well as see if there is any binding from the linkage while ruling out the Tcase itself. Clean and lube everything up for free movement. The lever going thru the body can get VERY stiff from lack of use and our lovely winters here in new england. Soak it with some good penetrating oil. Then there is a good article on one of the XJ sites on going thru your disconnect. I think its on http://www.madxj.com/ Any way they show you how to go thru and clean and repair your disconnect for proper functionality. I had the same problems and mine was entirely the disconnect. I swapped in a posilok and new steel shift fork and have no more problems!!! I also now get 2WD LO range!!! REALLY nice for launching a boat or doing stuff around the yard!!! CW
  20. Well I splurged...I ordered the 4x6 Infinity Kappas.. If its not enough, I'll throw a amp in with the same speakers and that will do it!! Here is my front speakers: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-hEZfElQeK5 ... ailed_info Here is the rears: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Na1voRz8CB ... ailed_info CW
  21. I was thinking about you and this thread today as I was swapping out my alt. It $#!& the bed last night!! Luckly I have a spare or two!! :D :brows: It wasnt marked for output. The one in th MJ, that went bad is a replacement. I do not have AC so I am assuming it is a smaller unit. the one I swapped in was from a XJ limited with power everything as well as AC. So I am going to assume it is of a higher output. CW
  22. Like Pete, I am running a mid '90's Dakota line. Its PLENTY long for my almost 6" of lift. CW
  23. My understanding of a mini-spool is that it's basically just a huge chunk of metal. No brand of mini-spool will break. I wouldn't go THAT FAR!!!  ANYTHING can be broken!!! Like all traction devices that fit inside a factory carrier. They are only as strong as the carrier itself. CW
  24. When I siad no amp, I was thinking of it running the main 4 speakers...not a sub. But this could be an option IF there is subs out there that won't be as large or take up as much space as the two 6X9's do now... Pete, so you are saying you HAD a sub/amp but removed it and STILL like the sound of the factory sized speaker in the factory positions?? Please explain for me... CW
  25. I am going to begin interior upgrades this spring. new carpet & headliner. SCRUB door panels and seats (Hopefully my TJ seats) Then lighting and speakers. :brows: Here is what I have: I have what I consider a good head unit. Its a Alpine Model 9843. Pleant of power and accessories for me. its about a year old. I also have a set of Infinity Kappa 5010's component 5.25 speakers for the front doors. (Not installed) Out back, I am currently using 6X9's in speaker boxes behind the seats. I LOVE the sound but HATE loosing the storage space. I am strongly considering a set of 4x6 Infinity Kappa 462.7 cfp's for the rear. In factory locations. I am wondering how much the sound will change. I know the QUALITY of the sound is going to be better. But will it be as loud? I HAD 4X6 Boston Acoustics in the dash of my TJ. I swapped in a set of 5.25 round Infinitys. I like it MUCH better. I guess I am just worried/wondering about the 4X6 Infinitys.... Got any comments, lay them on me!! OH, I don't really want or need to run a amp. (Its plenty loud) CW
