BTW, Your not going to notice any effects unless you get the vehicle up to at least 40mph. Devide the remainder up between the four just for good measure, its not going to hurt a thing!! I started with 8 and had to go to 10 in one tire.... The 8oz is just a starting point. CW

Lou is a very good friend of mine!! Tell him CW @ Jonfund says HI!! Watch out for luna!! She can be a fierce one!! BTW, we need to talk, I have those shocks off if you still need them. If no thats fine too others have inquired about them. CW

It worked OK... I finally removed mine. I had the tire guy use the stick on weights and put them on the inside of the rim. Not inside the tire, just inside side of the rim where they are better protected. this dosent help you if you spin a tire on the bead, but they won't get ripped off by the rocks. I found a much better option. Its called www.centramatic.com, I have them on my TJ and I LOVE THEM!!! Cost me about $200, but when I added up all the costs i incured reballanceing tires after wgheeling...i actually SAVED MONEY!!! They mount between the rim and the hub/rotor/drum. They are filled with a silica sand. CW

Gauge swap, little help please?
CWLONGSHOT replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did this and did a complete write up on my 89. This is the OIL sender: This is the coolant sensor: This is NOT THE CORRECT ONE!!! There are different gages. They changed thru the years. 86-88, 89-90, 91-92 I THINK is the break out. The differences are cable attachments as well as electronic to analoge... Any way, cabe is attached to you DS UCA bolt. Slid it off and you will get just enough room to remove the cable from tyhe rear of the pod. CW -
Looks like I miss memeasured the front shock legnths.... They are a bit long.... Would have been fine but I lower the front. Cannot return them as I have already pressed out the bushings. The way I see it, I have two options, buy the right ones (sell these) or make a new mount(s) to utailize the extra length. I bought BE56457H5 and they are 28+" long, I need 26" long. Its not a huge difference, but enough to make we want to change... (pic below) Ideally I would like to see the end of the shock body about even with the end of the spring. BEFORE: I can run the long ones, its only gonna hurt my compression. As it sits now with the long shocks I have about 4" of uptravel and close to 8 droop. With the EVS bump stops I put in any bottoming will be MUCH less harsh. Leaning towards just ordering new ones..... trouble is they do not seem to make exactly what I want in a 5100...they do in a 5150. UPDATE: Well I just bought new ones. I was able to return the too long ones afterall!! The length of these is almost 26" extended. but I have about 70% of that in up travel. SO, I need to make a spacer that I can add to the bottom so I can transfer my extra compression down to droop!! I'm thinkin about 1.5" - 1.75" is about perfect and will have the shocks sitting about dead even. OR the same up and downward travel. AFTER: CW

Here is a pic from just after the AT's went on...maybe three months ago. Hers is one from yasterday: You can see the amount the axle moved forward. Even though the CA's are now shorter. The Drop brackets move the mounting holes forward as well as down. If you look close at the second pic, you can see the bolt hole for the factory LCA. But the new one in the Drop bracket is hidden by the tire. Because its forward of origional. Like 87, mentioned. CW
-
Thats correct. In my case, actually the axle has been moved quite far forward. Its LOOKs much farther forward, way different!! As a matter of fact, the discos where touching the coils before I adjusted them!! Well, as you can see and read, I got it done tonight. I tightened everything, bleed the brakes, adjusted the track bar and discos. Then threw in the rear shocks. These are even longer than the last ones. So I had to drill another set of mounting holes to accommodate. I put the EVS bump stops on last night. Then I took it out for a ride. OH MY GAWD!!!! The ride is absolutely unbelievable. I think its nicer than the wives WJ!!!! :brows: Only had it up to about 40 and haven't been in any curves or bad road bumps but so far it feels mighty nice!!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed 6-7degrees is enough caster for no death wobbles!!! CW

I have 4.5" coils and the ACOS's for an additional 1.5". So 6" is the answer your looking for. CW

Couple more things to do first....hopefully the MJ will be back on the road this week end!!! I'll heading out there now hopefully I can get alot done... I'm going Turkey hunting in the AM!!! So I'm not going to be acle to get back out there till Sat afternoon. CW

Thanks for the tip Andy!! These shocks are the BOMB!!! I had a bugger of a time removing the bushings. The sleeves DO NOT come out!! Image Not Found Once I got the factory ones out I installed the replacements, the EVS bump stops and the BPE's ready for install!! Image Not Found Thanks for the tips everyone!! CW

Day four... I got two of the bushings pressed out of the Bilsteins. What a bugger!!! had to do the entire bushing...that sleeve was perminantly attached to the bushing!!! I had to sacrafice a socket in the process!!! I installed the BPE's from the other shocks and they where set to install. Image Not Found Then I put in the 4" extended YJ brake lines. Followed by the springs. thats when I got my suprise.....the freakin droop in absolutely increadible!!! It must droop 6+ inches further!!!!   I need to bleed the brakes then adjust the Track bar to re-center the axle. Lastly change the tranny mount, exaust bracket and cross member. Lastly take it for an allignment and I'm DONE!!! Here is a video clip showing and explaning the new droop. Sorry its side ways.....the wife sometimes forgets. CW

First question, shock bushings. I need to make this: Look like this: I haven't tried anything yet, but I am hoping the steel sleeve will just press out... Something tells me its going to be more of a chore. Anyone got any tips??? SECOND question. I need some tips of getting a TRE nut off when the tapered shaft spins just spins. I picked up some J series spacers to inhibit the rolling of the TRE's. But I cannot get the nuts off... The studs are just spinning. These are almost brandy new joints too!!

Mitch, These are the same LCA's I have had since the last lift two Aprils ago. They are adjustable for legnth. Well tonight I got a bit of a late start.... I got the UCA bushings pressed out of the axle and the new ones pressed in. I got the UCA bolt holes drilled out to 1/2" as per instructions. I finished bolting up the remaining bolts for the brackets. I set the CA legnths to proper legnth for proper caster. I went with 16" LCA's and 15 3/8 UCA's. caster is right at 6 degress. I bolted up all the control arms. Here is a couple detail shots of the DB's bri

Got a bit farther tonight... All the CA's are out and the DB's are mostly in. Still need to drill the upper holes out to 1/2". Also cleaned up the A.C.O.S's and put them in. I also opted for brandy new caster adjusters. I also ordered the Bilstein shocks and braded extended brake lines today. Hopefully tomarrow, I'll get the Upper bushings in the axle changed. Along with the legnth of the CA's set and everything bolted up. CW

I'll tell ya about back pain... I was in a car accident one of my mid lumbar vertibrae was cracked and two of my ribs are pulled from my spine?!? Not broken mind ya...cartilage torn from the spine. OH and I crushed the nerves in both my hands too. One from the steering wheel that other on the shifter knob. Had DOUBLE carpule tunnel surgery to repair that damage. YUP at the SAME time!!! FUN, Friends called me the Q Tip kid!! ;) Couldn't do ANYTHING for about a week!!! Make matters worse...My back injury was NOT FOUND till THREE MONTHS after my accident. Guess I didn't complain enough!!! Initial, Xrays showed nothing, evetyone was more interested in my neck and I didnt even hurt that!!! My Doc cought it on the SECOND round of MRI's!!! That he insisted on because I wasn't getting better and could'nt sleep. :headpop: That was 2003, I still have trouble sleeping and it sometimes about kills me to lay on the ground and wrench. Dosen't stop me, slows me down some, but it don't stop me!! :brows: :D Combine that with a Dislocated Knee, Shoulder. A cracked hip and collar bone along with a couple broken fingers. All playing foot ball back before most of you where even in this game we call life. You learn to deal. You learn to cope. Pain killers are your friend. CW

HOGWASH!! Felpro make a nice cork gasket!! Just go slow and becareful at the rear....it gets pretty tight back there!! I agree wih all previous suggestions. don't even think of finding that leak untill you get whats there mostly cleaned up!!! get the Jeep good and warm. get your self MULTIPUL cans of a good degreser and spray away...don't be bashful with the stuff...get it good. Even then its very likely you'll need to do this twice. THEN look at the Rear main, Front main as well as the afore mentioned valve cover gasket. CW

Here is a quick pic of mine: I don't see what you looking for on mine.... Its a 1989 4.0 AW4 4X4. CW -
Anyone running BILSTEIN 5100 shocks?? http://www.bilstein.com/offroad.php#5100 I am going to need new, longer shocks for the RE Drop Brackets and am strongly considering these. Remember the MJ is more of a well equiped daily driver than a strect wheeler but will get wheeled on easy/moderate trials. What about these new EVS shock stem mounted bump stops? Is it just a gadget or worth while addition? http://www.daystarweb.com/ItemForm.aspx ... &Category= Opinions welcome!! CW

I got a bit done tonight on my RE Drop Brackets install. Didn't get farther as I was helping my POP with ball joints. He hadn't done them before and needed lots of assistiance. Here is how we started... Then it was off to work.. All I really got was the shocks and coils off. I also found that I'll be needing longer shocks and brake lines for this job!! I am going to do away with all them spacers and throw back on the A.C.O.S.'s I am also droping the front about an inch. Its too close to the rear and I don't like the look..... I also am going to need to lok into new shocks....I want GAS this time!!! Much more top come!! :brows: CW
-
NICE!!! I would avoid the spacer/adapters though... i tried them and didnt like em...kept loosening. Besides they are NOT DOT!! If you get in an accident and its found out your running them you insurance will drop you like a bad habbit and leave you holding the bag!!! Good news is these will fit just fine on your STOCK RIMS!!! OR pick up an older set of JEEP ALLOYS for CHEAP!!! CW
