the stock dome lights are a 3 position switch. when in the up position they should come on manually. in the center position they are off, i.e. always off, down position, come on by door opening. my door switches were shot, got replacements at teamcherokee.com for less than $10 I think. you will need to clean the contacts on the lights too, most likely. be carefull when you pull them out, they have 2 flex tabs on the right or left side depending how they were put back in the last time someone had them out. anyway, these plastics tabs are very fragile and are the most common thing to break on these which keeps them from holding in place, so be gentle. there are replacements out there for less than they go for on ebay. most of the guys here seem to have a private stockpile of them, but occassionally they let a pair go LOL!!

dude, it looks great. i think you'll be fine. would you mind telling all of us what you ended up getting it for? regardless, i think you got an above avg condition truck!

Maybe Ma Parker and her husband are head of a Jeep theft operation! and :thwak: we'll just take care of them. Now boys, we can either do the right thing and turn them in to the po-po, OR, I say we all just show up, strip that thing down for whatever we want :wrench: and tell the ole hag thanks for the free parts! :nanner: Never trust a sweet looking old lady, they're the ones who will surprise ya! :brows: :laughin:

where are you guys seeing all these pics? i only see the 3 posted on page 3? didn't know they've only had it since july, why do they say they are selling it? certainly changes things. did they buy a $300 beater and put $1200 in it? the truck may still be perfectly fine but as the rest of the thread points out, a lot of semi-odd choices if it was a rebuild. everybody is different, so who knows. i had noticed the shift boot also and with the carpet and seat seeming "too clean to be true", again may have been a rebuild. but hey, if it runs good, everything works and other areas of normal concern check out, maybe they just did the work for you and you're still getting a nice rig. trouble is, if they are "flipping" this truck, they probably won't be willing to haggle much for awhile. this is getting good! :chillin:

x2 On any 20yr old vehicle, KBB and other value guides are just that, a GUIDE..........AT BEST. Point being, the value is best determined by what it's worth to you. IF, and until you look all over it in person that could be a big IF, it runs decent and is as nice as the pics look, especially the body and interior (jeez that's clean), dude, you better run up there with some cash in your pocket and pick that thing up! the mirror will be cheap and easy to get another black one. they probably got that one free somewhere after knocking off the oem black one. go get it!!

Beater, the squirrel reference cracked me up! My wife freakin' does that to me all the time and I'll just stop talking and she'll say "what's the matter?" "Then I say I'm trying to tell you something and you keep squirreling!" She especially does this when we are in the car. Maybe because my conversations are like my posts, long winded and too much detail. Ha! No apologies for that though, because I'm Stuart Smalley and, doggone it, people like me!

WOW! I think the last I looked at it this afternoon it had about 5hrs to go and was still in the mid $3's. I figured the bidders were local and saw the real thing. Guess not. But what doesn't make sense is a very experienced ebayer bought it, over four thousand transactions! You'd think they'd know what's a good deal and what's not. NOT! Crazy.......

FWIW, I bought an 88 4.0 a few months ago with 211k on it and other than a rough idle, it runs incredible. Obviously ask a ton of questions as soon as you get there and try to figure out if he's in a hurry to sell it etc., try to get him to do all the talking early on so you can get a read on him. It also helps you keep yourself from  all over yourself if your first impression is "this thing is sweet, i gotta have it!" I think I'm a good negotiator/salesman, but when I get too emotional (read: excited!) about a purchase, like most people, the only person I'm negotiating or selling is myself, and it's always up! Ha! But w/over 200k on it, I think it's no question that's your greatest bargaining chip, regardless of how clean it is. That and cash money! I mean, the mileage should get you to $2k right off the bat, IMO. So, if it were me, I'd show up with $1500 hiding in my pocket, start at $1200, he'll counter in low $2's, I'd come back at $1500, he says he's gotta get at least $2k for it, then I'd pull the cash out and tell him the most I wanted to spend was the $1500 but if he'll take $1700 I'll go to the bank and get the rest right now. He stares at the ground and says something like "I don't know, I just put it up for sale, I really think it's worth at least $2k", all the while he's either staring at his feet or the cash in my hand knowing he can't turn down the green and I know I'm just about to get a sweet a$$ MJ for under $2k. That's how it always works, right? Seriously though, his body language and tone will tell you if he's ready to deal. My bet says you get it for $1850. Sorry for the run-on, it's late! :brows: Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I think mine is bearing related since it sounds more like metal on metal than just a simple whirring or whining. And it's loud enough that it is hard to pinpoint where it's coming from. I'll report back after I locate the problem, hopefully in the next week or so. It's not my DD so not a huge priority.

that's WHACKED! completely WHACKED!

DrThunder, I think you may have helped confirmed my issue. I was starting to wonder if it was the alternator because: a)yes, it does increase w/rpm's, and B) my volt meter, while it has never pushed anywhere near 14 in the 3+ months i've owned the truck, has lately been on the lower half between 9 and 14 volts. But, all lights and electronics seem to be burning ok. Any other input on this? Thanks.......Greg

i have a similar sound but is more prominent at low rpms, however it is still there throughout the rpm range. i am not sure if it is the water pump or idler pulley, or something else. at first i tried belt conditioner just to see if i got lucky. it made about 95% of it go away but slowly comes back over about an hour of run time, so that confirms it's something mechanical. i know this doesn't help your problem but thought someone might be able to help us both out.

Yo Mass, it would be really wicked cool if you could send me some pics of those seats. I've PM'd ya, posted replies, I'm'd ya. I'm freakin' dyin' down here waiting to take them off your hands. Thought if I spoke Bah-ston to ya I might get a response! Ha!

Some good debate here. Let me clear up a few things. I didn't say that I thought it was necessarily worth $5-6k, just that someone would pay that for it. But I do stand behind my opinion that if the low miles are correct, the drivetrain is probably in good shape. One of the reasons I believe this is, as Wildman also noticed in the description, that "supposedly" it was used exclusively on private property, so I believe that would support light use. If you look close it looks like there are still some stickers on the doors right under the window, I'd guess it was on a farm or similar and that name was on the sticker. Anyway, a lot of assumptions going on but that's why I thought it would be fun to post this to read everyone's "what if's?" Whoever is selling this I am sure is going to make a nice profit. I'm pretty confident since it's "removal was a condition of another sales transaction", it was bought for cheap at an estate auction to get rid of all the items the buyer didn't want. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the driveway it's in is the guy who drove it the past 10-20yrs working at the property! Anyway, I thought of a tiebreaker if we have two winning bets less than $100 from the auction sales price. The winner will be the one who correctly identifies the "flavor" of the air freshener tree. Ha!

looks nice!

At $3.55 vs $3.05 that's @16-17% increase in fuel cost. His WORST case tank on regular driving was 26mpg, where the BEST case tank for most 4x4 4.0's is 20mpg. That's a 30% increase. He's way ahead on fuel cost. It won't exactly pay for the cost of the swap, but hey, he could be upside down on fuel and the cool factor alone pays for it.

Some of you guys crack me up. "ohhhh no, i wouldn't touch that thing if it was used for plowing!". Yet, you buy engines and trannies with ridiculous amounts of miles on them and no idea that the previous owner ran the living crap out of them. I know you get a lot of that stuff cheap but my point is, you act like if you won the lottery you still wouldn't buy it just because it had a plow on it. I know a lot of you still won't agree with me, but a 13k plow truck, IMO, sure as hell has no more wear on the drivetrain than the 100k+ equipment that was run like a dog most of its life. Granted, that 13k could have been abusive plowing, but nobody knows until you drive it and listen to it. It looks like that interior is original, and in that condition it does not look like it had a lot of seat time. Not the most reliable way to form an opinion, but if it was strictly a work truck and run hard, I doubt the interior would be that clean. It's cool, that's why we're here, we've all got something different to say. Hey Jeepco, got pics of those fixed quarter windows for me yet? No big deal, just checking.........

Hey, if the Ravens had them on the ropes, we've got a great shot at it if we keep it close early. And keep Willie from dropping the damn ball! Screen name comes from my two favorite teams: UVa and Pittsburgh Does Kia have a west end dealer now or did you get it from the one on Midlo Tpke? I lived in the west end both times I was there but worked on southside at various times.

x2 on the ridiculous amount of taxes in pa. talk about an overgoverned state. actually, commonwealth just like VA. i moved back to va last year after 4 years in pittsburgh. i just paid my first pp tax on my car since being back, and it was a slap in the face reminder of how much i used to hate paying that bill. but then i reminded myself that $500 is about what i paid PER MONTH in property tax on my house in PA. Most of it goes to schools, which are some of the best in the country, but a lot of good that did me. my kids were 5 and 1 when I left so I never got any "return on my investment". congrats on the new ride. i lived in richmond twice, which dealer did you get it from?
