  1. i haven't found one for sale affordable or otherwise. i've got some time before i need one, but i'm not holding my breath. btw, that engine bay looks great.
  2. impressive setup, thanks for the info. While i've been trying to figure out which way to go with the stroker, i've been assembling the pieces to go around it. Having a dynoed setup to reference is a big help. i saw on your thread over at jeepstrokers that you've had your MJ dynoed a few times over the years. Besides possibly the baseline run, have you even made one with a header other than the mike leach? They seem to be impossible to come by, so i'm looking for second best at this point.
  3. Hornbrod, could you go into your setup a little more besides what's listed in your sig? If i remember correctly from a post on jeepstrokers, you have mike leach headers, and your muffler is 2.5 and dual 2.5 out. Obviously you have a K&N fipk, is there a bored throttle body under there? Also, did you have to change your stock engine harness or ecu for the stroker or unichip? Thanks in advance.
  4. Not to kill a sale...but i had to double check. Your MJ is an '86, right? I don't think my '91 gauge cluster will work (someone correct me if i'm wrong). I'd feel pretty bad sending you something you couldn't use.
  5. Not sure if its the same for an 89, but on my '91 parts truck and my '92 i had to remove a bolt in the middle of the C100 connector. On the engine bay side, look between the two harnesses running out of the connector. In between them, there should be a small bolt that takes (if i remember correctly) a 1/4" socket.
  6. Well, i was able to track down a wiring diagram (link here for anyone who is interested). I've pulled all the wiring, and half of the sensors (and a lot of things i don't need). Still have to go back for the trans, oil, power steering and rear axle fluid sensors. Going to run back to the yard this weekend for those. Realistically, i'll probably run all the wiring but hook up only a few of the sensors. The wiring is easy enough using the schematic. Probably won't ever drill into the t-case or axles for those sensors. The ones i have already don't look too hard to work in. Won't decide on the trans, oil or power steering until i pull the sensors.
  7. Jeepco, sorry to hear you had this stuff stolen, i'm sure with enough time you would have gotten all this to work. I've got the ones from the axles and t-case, one from the brake booster and one from the washer reservoir (not all of which are in good shape). Wouldn't have found the steering sensor or the brake pad sensors on my own. That leaves just two lights on the panel i can't account for, engine and engine coolant. Also since it looks like i'm going to have to cut up some of the wiring harness to get it out (correct me if i'm wrong), i may need the diagrams to get it all back together. Best i can tell, the wiring from the control box goes out thru the firewall to the engine bay, where it goes into the engine harness. I didn't want to randomly start cutting or ripping things apart until i ha some more info. I'm going to be pulling the wiring out of the MJ before it gets painted anyway, so its a good time to give it a try. Thanks again for all the input.
  8. Didn't pull the skid plate but i do have a picture on my phone. Have to see if it came out ok before i upload it. Have the sentinel stuff in a box in my jeep right now, but no pictures. If it help for me to post pictures of the stuff, i will later on this afternoon/evening. i think the xj had a skid plate in the back (for the fuel tank maybe?). Wasn't paying that much attention, just went around back to check the axle. I'm guessing that wouldn't be useful on an MJ, but if it is, i would go back for it.
  9. found an '85 cherokee chief at the yard this morning with factory skid plates. Were there any changes in the front end between '85 and '92 that would keep the front skid plate from being bolt on? it also had a sentinel panel...does anybody have the wiring diagrams? I pulled the panel, the box it attached to, some of the wiring and a few of the sensors. Need to know what sensors i missed and anything else i'll need if i try to wire this up to my MJ. Thanks in advance. [edited for thread title change]
  10. no worries. i'm due for something like that anyway. I have a nice stock bumper from my parts truck i haven't put on yet..mostly because i figure once it goes on, i'm backing into something (or something is rear ending me).
  11. the quote in my sig is from Mark Martin during testing at Las Vegas earlier this year. The worst thing i've done (so far) was forgetting to set the parking brake while sitting in a friend's sloping driveway. Wasn't a problem until we put the truck in neutral to install the new carpeting. Good thing he lives on a cul-de-sac.
  12. thanks for the link...so basically the idea is to drop a ZJ bcm onto MJ CCD bus, and have it send data to the ZJ overhead console. pretty cool stuff. I think i'll have to add this of the list of stuff to grab on the next JY run. hijack>
  13. i thought this wasn't possible...is there a write up somewhere? I've already done all the wiring for a pre-97 XJ console, but i'd rip it out and start over to have some of the extra functions. Sorry about the hijack.
  14. Good point. The front bumper is the best part of the newer front end. Eliminates that flimsy valance trim on the pre-97s. Doesn't look too bad combined with the older header panel and some chopped fenders and flares:
  15. http://www.jeepsticker.com/mj.htm The guy that runs it is also a member here too. This is where i'm going after i get my MJ repainted.
  16. yea it basically is the same as dynamat; just wanted to give something different a try. I had the interior of my cab media blasted and repainted by a shop. I left them with twelve 2'x1' sheets which was enough to cover the floor with a single layer.
  17. All true. I skipped the mass backing because i read among other things it makes the new carpet that much harder to cut and work with. Underneath the new carpet i have a layer of of some stuff called Overkill over top of a layer of Damplifier. Between the two, its as thick as the jute padding from under the original carpet; thick enough that i had to skip using the overkill around the seat bracket bolts. btw, forgot to mention this in my first post...that is some nice work on the interior. I'm in the middle of the same project and hope it turns out half as nice.
  18. The quality is OK at best. I've seen one other MJ with a ACC carpet, and it had the same problem as mine...both were loose around the passenger's side of the transmission tunnel. If anything i thought i would have a problem with it being tight because i put down sound deadening before the carpet went in.
  19. drop in bed liner and tool box. my second mod was removing the after market head unit and sub the PO put in and replacing it with a stock tape deck.
  20. Would be the wire that lights up the tail lights when you hit the brake? I did basically the same swap (92xj to 92mj) and also had to run a wire to the steering column. Even with a fsm around it took a while to figure out what the problem was and how to fix it.
  21. I've pulled apart a couple of '91s and '92s; not sure if this applies to other years. On the engine side between the two halves of the engine harness there is a small bolt. I'm almost positive the bolt needed a 1/4" socket. I found removing the two torx bits on the interior fuse box helpful. It allowed me to move that whole connector up and out so i could get at the bolt with just a ratchet and extension.
  22. I think its a little late for that; check out the date on the first several posts. Seems that a few buried threads have been dug up.
  23. it does depend on the yard. That same yard that wanted to charge for the fuses and relays also wanted $9 for a fuel gauge. That i left behind. Some of the yards around here tack on a Environmental fee, usually a couple of bucks. And i don't even want to get started on some of the core deposit costs. The best places to go down here are the cash only yards. One of them down here is literally named Steal-a-Part.
  24. you would get reamed for that at a yard down here if they caught you. I pulled a dash harness a few weeks back and the girl at the counter started counting the relays and fuses to charge me. If it wasn't such a PITA to pull it, i would have left it right there at the counter and walked away.
