Sounds like Monday I'll get the bad news

Hope you got some good news today. Mine is the L4, L5 area. Had those 2 vertebrate fractured 25 years ago in a cycle crash. Then compression fractures in the same area about 10 years ago from lifting far too much weight. Had it up over my head and the weight shifted backwards and hairlined the old injury. This last time I was drug by the car when I thought I had put it in park and it started drifting. Slipped when I went to jump in and got twisted like a rag doll but did get it stopped. That was about 8 months ago, muscle relaxers and pain pills since then. I don't take the pain med til night, I don't want to be oblivious to the pain and do more damage. Xrays, MRI's show the damage but I am trying to stay away from the surgery. I've roughed it through with the other injuries and it seems to be getting better. I bought one of those Tippers from TV that invert you for traction. I feel things realigning and popping so I think this will work. I've only had it for 3 weeks but before I could hardly move, since this treatment started I can move easier and only have the stiffness and limpity moves first thing in the morning.

I would start vitamin D therapy ASAP! I broke 2 vertebrae 30 years ago (went off a roof and landed with a brick under my back) Back specialists told me I'd never walk again, but my GP (British born and trained) had the 2 broken VBs tied and started me on mega D vitamins and calcium.

I went from that to pumping iron again in less than a year and regained my ability to walk. I'm recovering from a broken rib last year (I'll be 50 soon) and even had a car fall on my head (Duvall quake of '95) that almost squashed it, but I survived! (a little Dain Bramaged)

What has really kicked my butt is my thyroid being messed up (from one of the whiplashes I've had from being hit from behind so many times at red lights! Freakin Seattle drivers!)

Yo, T-man, what's the good news? And to be frank, have you tried marijuana for the pain. I'm curious because I did and I actually felt worse being high as a kite. The only thing that's ever helped me has been Perkisets. I have no idea how to spell that. Sorry. Hey good luck man!

I'm going to start vitamin therapy, I already do B-12 a multi vitamin and 1000mg of niacian at night per the heart doctor, I all take fish oil.

Thanks for the heads up on vitamin D I'll be reserching it.

Well the discs above and below my 4 level neck fusion are the issue. Thay are bulging and degenereated. This is pincing a nerve and some new bone spurs have also formed. I have be working on the problem and it is much better.

As for the "have you tried marijuana for the pain." It helps I used it for 25 years but stopped a 2 years ago. It does make the pain meds and valium work much better. They can test where I work now so even my scripts are questionable...

Since I was doing better my meds stayed the same. I'm going to try to improve my strength and lose some wieght to help out both my back and my heart issues.

I'll have to go back in so they can do the MRI on the rest of my back. I can't do it right now because it oinches the nerve to the point the pain pills don't do anything.

I've got to start cutting back on the pills as soon as I feel good enough because if I don't take them now I have withdrawls.

One thing you might try is gelatin. Not "Jello," just plain, powdered gelatin. Some health food stores have it in capsules, and some of the mail order vitamin places also sell gelatin caps. I was turned onto it by an electrical engineer many years ago. His wife had had multiple spinal fusions and then tried the gelatin caps. Apparently (according to him) the gelatin helps to pump up damaged discs, and lets them do what they are supposed to do again.

I take two every morning and I think it helps my chronic back problem. Even if it doesn't -- it's also good for your fingernails and your hair.

Safeway sells KNOX gelatin for nails it's powdered and you just add a paket to your water bottle (it's orange flavored).

Wow  How do ya sleep on 1000mg of Niacin. That makes me crazy

The 20mg of Norcos(Vicodons), 10-20mg of Valiums and 20mg of Cyclobenzapine and the 25mg of Amitriptylene I take at night probably also helps me sleep...

At least ist the slow release kind.
