thejum57 Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Can you syphon gas from the filler pipe? I have a little over a 1/2 tank of 5 year old gas in tank!
AnotherOldJeepGuy Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Don't see why not. I know I have siphoned some before just never tried to drain the tank. Might be difficult to get 100% out cause making the hose be at the absolute lowest spot might be difficult, but seems like you could get most of it.
llhat Posted July 22 Posted July 22 i wanted to do this few years ago during a fuel pump failure and dang near full of gas... tried a piece of fuel hose ?(5/16 ID) and i could not get it down the filler neck... for a 'test' I took a smaller piece of hard nylon tubing that was like 1/4" and it was troublesome getting it down there... maybe doable, but not easy.
AnotherOldJeepGuy Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I am not disputing any difficulty noted, being more difficult that it looks is very common, but it looks like a pretty straight shot from the cap to the tank...
89 MJ Posted July 23 Posted July 23 If I were doing this and it’s only half a tank, I think I would pull the fuel pump and siphon it that way.

Yep this, I tried using a syphon tube (the kind with the ball bearing at the end, I don't like sipping gas, lol) and couldn't get the end past 12"-15" from the filler tube. From the sending unit side was easy
eaglescout526 Posted July 23 Posted July 23 The pipes that put fuel into the tank are at a hard angle and make it tough to siphon fuel out. Better off using the pump itself to get fuel out or from the return side.
