Window help

My driver side window regulator seems to be going. It skips as you wind it. I can't find any manual replacements and junkyards are nonexistent near me. Does anyone know where to find them or just hope someone is selling it on Ebay? Last replacement doors I saw on there were insanely priced.

@M.T.Hands posted back in 2024 that he fixed his regulators.  I followed the post so I went back and looked at it, but I don't see any info on how in that post.  I remember someone talking about swapping the spline end to end and getting the bad part moved to where it didn't count, but I don't remember where that information is.

 

The first time mine started doing this I was able to clean in good in place and oil it up, and that fixed it for maybe a couple years, so that might work for you depending on the amount of wear.

 

The last time mine started to act up the only thing I managed to do was to literally block the window from going all the way down, which was where the failure was.  Not a great fix but a functional band-aid that kept me or a passenger from accidentally lowering it to a point I could not get it raised back up.

Someone recently posted that power regulator worm drives fit the manuals if that helps.

I took an electric worm out of an XJ (rear door because I figured it had less wear) the trolley assembly is completely different, but the worm is the same, (just a little longer--maybe the front one is equal length. ).

To take the worm out, you have to uncrimp the end of the tube, I used pliers, then recrimp when the new worm is in.

 

 

I drilled out the rivets on the electric regulator trolley and drilled out the stamped bits on my old manual regulator.

 

 

I was able to bolt the new worm onto the old trolley, just slightly off-centered, but its been working great so far.

 

 

 

The problems with the old one were obvious. A bunch of hairs had fallen off and caked up with grease and rust. I had sprayed it wil pb blast a year ago, and it was a bit better, but it didn't help for long. I have a lot more confidence in the worm swap as a permanent repair.
