Good folks of CC-

I’m looking for a NP 242 transfer case. What’s everybody got sitting around? Obviously the closer to central Colorado the better, but I will be driving up to Minnesota in December if anybody is along the way. :beerchug:

Edit: Input spline not a huge deal, but ideally 21. I can swap inputs between my 231 if I need to.

you should specify input spline count :L:

242s were still in use in some KJs. :D not sure what all differences there might be though that might negate it as an option.   :dunno:

WJ and KJ 242's don't have a provision for a speedometer gear. The output shaft has no teeth for the gear and the tail housing hasn't been machined to accept a speedometer gear. I think that is the only major difference.

First post updated. Spline count isn’t a deal breaker but I definitely need a speedometer gear housing.

Check car-part.com and search for 1988 Jeep Cherokee Transfer case and select the 242. Looks like there is a one in Colorado. High milage though.

I saw that one. Very high miles for the price. There is the convenience factor if I can’t find another though.

I'll be on the lookout. Did you check with timbukthree? I know they are moving but I saw they are clearing out a bunch of stuff. I had chatted with Neal a few months ago about building my 242HD but the SYE was the issue.  Not sure if he has any.
