Sport Bar mounting plates for new to me Jeep?

Recommended Posts

I just picked up this beauty yesterday. It's an '88 short bed with a long bed sport bar.

My plan is to mount the bar in my '90 long bed.

Of course, it doesn't have the mounting plates or hardware. Does anyone know a source?

maybe an old Go Rhino bar?  it doesn't matter much.  it's not going to save you in a roll over so you can probably just make a template off the bottom of the pads and fab that out of some 3/16 steel. or even just punch holes through and use grade 8 bolts and thick fender washers.

to install it you're going to need to sacrifice the integrity of the bed liner.  be prepared for that.  crap and water will try to collect at the base of the bar and start to rot it.  :(

I know that it's only an "appearance bar" and offers no roll over protection. The bar I have is in really good condition. Needs a repaint, but no rust through at all.

I reached out to Krustyballer16 to see if his brackets can be used. I would prefer to fasten it to the bed a securely as possible.

Does the factory long bed bar rear legs attach to the vertical part of the wheel wheel (and not the top) like the one I have?

Yeah sort of, the factory one ends in an angle against the wheel wells, and the plates are slightly curved.

Thanks, like Pete said, I'm probably going to have to fabricate some custom plates and that's okay.

99% of the public will have no idea it's not factory, but it will still look pretty cool!

as you're finalizing your plans, just keep in mind that the debris in the bed will collect inside any giant holes in the liner, retain moisture, and eventually rot the bed or the bar.  I've seen it many times before. :(  heck, I own a factory bar where the bottom 4 inches of the drivers side foot completely rotted away before I rescued it.
