How to View HEIC Images?

Recommended Posts

I see posts from time to time that include images in the .HEIC format.  For me at least, these are never viewable.  Is there any way to add a viewer to the forum for this file type?  If that is a bit out there, how else are these images viewable?  In my case specifically, I browse with a Windows PC and sometimes on iPhone and cannot look at the .HEIC files on either.

HEIC is a typical iPhone HD format and should be viewable on apple devices running the latest software. iPhone tends to default to this file format when taking pictures but it can be updated to use a more compatible file type (aka JPEG)

What’s interesting is I’ve uploaded Apple photos before from my phone and they usually come out fine on both PC and iPhone.

Yeah that is curious.  It's been mentioned that iPhone can be configured to capture in JPEG, maybe that explains you viewing success?

Entirely possible. I’ve never fiddled with the settings but I just looked and haven’t changed them. Perhaps it has to do with me being on safari? Damned if I know haha.

@AnotherOldJeepGuy can you see the pictures in this thread? https://comancheclub.com/topic/70440-mj-happy-camper/

I didn't check that I could see throughout all the pages, but I could see all the pics on the first two pages.  I looked at the image properties one a couple and they are JPEG, so that would explain why I think.

Interesting, all the pics except the map were shot on my iPhone and are saved as HEIF not HEIC. So HEIFs can be seen by all.
