I ride motorcycles as much as I can, so the Comanche has mostly been used as a truck for hauling stuff and as a bad weather driver.

Some of the early changes I did were removing the overlanding equipment that came with the Jeep from the previous owner as I tried a few nights of rooftop tent camping and am not a convert.

My more recent projects were installing a Softopper, Fey/Westin rear bumper, and @krustyballer16 receiver hitch.
For the Krustyballer receiver hitch I filed down some of the few sharp edges left by the laser cutter, wiped it down with alcohol, and then painted with two coats of Rust-Oleum Farm & Implement Low Gloss Black as this is an easy paint for me to touch up as needed over time.

@87MJTIM's thread on installing the receiver hitch with the Fey/Westin bumper gave me the confidence to know it would work with slight modification. One thing I did differently was that instead of entirely trimming the angle bracket of each bumper bracket, turning them into flat stock, I found that if I flipped the left and right brackets then I only needed to trim them to fit the frame rails.

This would be stronger than trimming them entirely flat, but still I have no plans to tow with the bumper itself, that's what the hitch is for. With the Fey/Westin bumper brackets you need to use two of the washers they provided in the kit for each bracket bolt to the frame, which there are three of per bracket, for a total of twelve washers to deal with as spacers. I would have had an awful time with this if my helper had not come up with the idea of using aluminum tape to fold around a stack of two washers, and then use the excess tape to align it as you slide the bolt through, then pull the tape away. That worked great. For the bumper bracket bolts I used the ones Krustyballer provided as they're the appropriate length to fit through the stack of receiver hitch, bumper bracket, washers, and frame rail. Wanting to avoid splicing into wiring, I purchased an OEM rear bumper wiring sub harness from eBay and used that plug-and-play setup instead of the wiring that Fey/Westin provided. For the trailer wiring I bought the factory-style plug-and-play wiring harness from Howe It's Made.

For a bed cover to keep the weather out, I wanted something that would be easily removable for loading motorcycles or other large items in the bed of the truck so I went with a Softopper. I may end up camping in the bed at some point as well.

I love seeing guys rocking the classic 6 spoke rims :D

Thanks! The gold wheels it had on it before were very unique, but not to my taste so they've since gone to a better home with a faux wood panel Cherokee XJ owner. I found the remanufactured 6 spoke wheels on CARid.

Was this truck on Bring a Trailer?  It's beautiful, I followed the auction closely.

It was. I'll note that it was not honestly represented by the seller on BaT which was a bit of a disappointment as I flew out to pick up the Jeep and was then told of all the known issues with it, and found some of the others on the 1,200 mile drive home. Very happy with the Jeep, just not with the seller or that particular BaT experience. It's a clean Jeep and been worth the investment to get sorted out.

I can't say I blame you for swapping the wheels.  The gold was sharp but I remember they were basket weave style, and rose are the worst to keep clean.

Yeah, BaT isn't technically any better than any other website for buying and selling cars other than you get a lot of eyes on the vehicle and people comment about what they see.  It's still buying a vehicle long distance sight unseen.  Hopefully sorting it out hasn't been too much trouble.

My Comanche purchase  wasn't much different, was supposed to be rust free and clean, it took me 5 minutes to find a softball sized hole in the drivers floor pan and a squirrel near in the air box.  That said it too has cleaned up to be an amazing truck.

Enjoy yours!
