Electric Fan spins intermittently

I have a '90 MJ with the 4.0L & factory ac.

 

With the ac on and the compressor running the electric fan will come on and run for 8-10 seconds and then stop for about 15 seconds.

 

Shouldn't it run continuously if the ac is on?

It should run with ac on. 
 

Is your ac working properly?  Is it fully charged?

So the fan should run continuously with the ac on?

 

I'll check the charge level with gauges the next warm day.

Check the fan relay while you’re at it. Could just be the relay starting to go bad.

Whenever the AC clutch is engaged, the fan comes on. If your system is low on freon, it will cycle a lot.

Started with the easier test first...

 

I replaced the relay and the fan continued running with no interruption. 

 

Who knew that a 34 year old relay could go bad?
