Ticking noise after engine is off

After I cut the engine off there is a ticking noise. Kinda sounds like the fuel injectors or like when really hot metal is cooling but it happens when the engine is hot or cold.

I bet that's the idle stepper motor expanding to prepare for the next startup, which is normal.

It's hot metal cooling and is perfectly normal.

my 4.0 has been doing that since I got it in 97.    it's weird sounding, but normal.

I figured it was but it's kinda loud and my 06 LJ doesn't do it.

I’ve always heard it coming from the lifters in the middle 4.0 as they bleed out and settle after running. But every 4.0 I’ve ever had makes that sound
