mddrexel
Hello all, I recently had to replace the slave cylinder in my BA 10/5 tranny. As you all probably know, this means I had to remove and replace the tranny. While doing this I pulled the shifter and it just lifted right out, when I looked on the uh, shifter hole? I noticed that the stuff that was supposed to hold it in was all broken up (the retaining ring and clip) I pulled out the parts and figured I could just but new ones but apparently nobody has these parts. My questions are; 1. has anybody else run into this problem? and B. is there a workaround? like a part from another vehicle that will fit. Any info would be greatly appreciated and of course, Thank you in advance.
eaglescout526
Unless you’re absolutely hard set on keeping the pukegoat BA10/5, everyone is gonna tell you to ditch it and get the AX15. And yes parts for that trans are hard to find just like the Renault turbo diesel from the early years.
pizzaman09
The transmission was also used in the Peugeot 505, that might give you a lead for parts. What's this part supposed to look like? Can one 3d print or machine one? The typical ones I've seen are a cylindrical with a spherical surface on the one end to push against the ball. mddrexel
Hi Eaglescout, thanks for the advice, I've heard about the issues with the BA10 but this one has lasted through 187,000 miles and still going strong so they can't be all bad! Plus, I don't want to swap trannies for what appears to be a less than $20 part
Pete M
it's only $20 if you can find one. maybe the parts page will help:

I know there is one of these parts on eBay but they want $30 plus shipping. It's just a thin washer and a retaining clip
mddrexel
Thanks Pete, I'll probably just get the one on eBay, I'm very cheap so it kills me to spend that much on something so little, grrr

mddrexel
Jzlajeep, thank you for the offer, and thanks to all the other members But it may be a moot point, I re-installed the tranny and after a few tests it appears that the 3rd gear synchro is shot, as it grinds going in and won't stay in gear, I knew it was worn but it always worked. When I pulled it there was only about a half pint of oil in it, I think I shocked it with new oil. The truck is very rough but the motor is very strong, though I think the old dog might be reaching the end of the line.
pizzaman09
It might be worth throwing some special oils at it to help it out. I'm a big fan of the royal purple syncromax, it's done wonders for the warn out synchros in my various cars.
