Tire Mount Ideas

Hello all,

 

I'm looking for ideas on how to mount my spare tire. Do you know of any awesome tire mount carriers, I was looking to mount it on the bed of my Comanche. However, I'll take any ideas and suggestions. If you got pictures, please share. BTW, tire size would not exceed 32". Thanks

Seen some pretty cool bed mounted spare tire carriers. I don’t have any pictures of them now though. I believe that Pete made his own.

A bed-mounted carrier would be a good option on a Comanche, especially with a 32" tire. I’d look for a heavy-duty mount that ties into the bed structure rather than just the sheet metal, since the weight and leverage of the spare can put a lot of stress on the mounting points. A swing-away carrier could also work if you want easier access to the bed. If you have room behind the cab, a compact vertical mount would keep the tire secure without taking up too much usable bed space. I’d be interested in seeing what others have used on their Comanches.

Personally, I ditched the spare and have an onboard air system with a patch kit. Quite a few new cars have done the same.

couple weeks ago I watched a guy blow out the sidewall of his new minivan in a parking lot (had a bubble that popped).  walked over expecting to lend a hand but he ended up needing a tow because he had no spare.  there's even a space in the back of the van for that spare, it simply wasn't included in lieu of a can of fixaflat and a pump.

Yep, always a possibility. I’ve wheeled that way for years. But I also keep a close eye on my tires and air pressure and only get quality tires. I wouldn’t run some crazy trails that would split my sidewalls, but I’ve aired down to 10psi or so and done some fun trails with them. It’s all risk management I suppose, but I’ve drifted away from the idea of an absolute need for a spare tire on recent builds. 
 

Had a 2022 wrx that we bought new and had no spare. Just a pump and some patches. Our beemers have no spares either but they do have run flats.
