Warren99
Background info: My truck is an 89 base. I just swapped in the whole interior from an 87 Comanche Chief. I don’t have to drive in the dark often, but the few times I have recently I noticed when I shut off the truck and turned the lights off, the headlamps themselves stay on for 30 sec - 1 min. So my first assumption is my new interior must have the sentinel relay, but idk what it looks like. Last night, my passenger headlamp went out. I wanna make sure I have the relay, bc I’ve had electrical issues before and if I find out I don’t have the relay, then something is seriously wrong. eaglescout526
The relay is bolted to the underside of the dash itself. If you crawl under and look up by the column, you should see a silver box plugged into what looks like a connector that should have 8 wires but only has 4 in a row(best way I can describe the wire and get you to the relay you’re looking for)
fiatslug87
The silver box in the pic. Behind the knee panel to the left of the column.
Warren99
I could have sworn I remember seeing a diagram of it on the fuse panel. But I think I remember seeing that silver box on mine. I’ll check tomorrow. Thank you
schardein
With the knee panel in place, it's hard to see or get to it unless you have messed with it before and know exactly where it's at. Funny thing, the one in my 91 XJ is always unplugged so I can test the relays I get at the junkyard. Some more pics of the relay. It will most likely be part number 8956000636, but could be 56009324, which is the exact same part but found on the later model XJs.

cruiser54
For reference: CRUISER'S MOSTLY RENIX TIPS ADDING THE SENTINEL HEADLAMP FEATURE JANUARY 3, 2016 CRUISER54 23 COMMENTS I love the Sentinel Headlamp feature. It allows my Jeep to provide me with safe lighting after exiting it at night. We live in a rural area with no street lights. Here how it works. I researched an old wiring diagram and found that all that was needed to have this feature was plugging in a relay!! And, the plug is already in our Jeeps. The relay is part number 56000636 or 56009324 and sells for about $50. Since I part out XJs and MJs, I went through my stash and found I had saved a few without knowing what they were. Think “junkyard” here. I simply plugged the relay/timer in and instantly had sentinel Headlamps.
