Pete M
or did they change over the years?
eaglescout526
Hmm, according to the catalog valve assembly 83503760 was used from 1987-93. Oh this is neat.

Pete M
I don't own an auto MJ. but someone asked and I didn't have an answer for this particular quandary.
eaglescout526
Well I wouldn’t argue with Chrysler but I’d use extreme caution when using a later body in an early trans and vice versa. I’m not a transmission expert by any means but messing something up like that can be expensive quick.
75sv1
There were other versions of the AW4. Toyota used them a lot. I remember doing my valve body with a TransGo kit. There were 3-4 versions of the AW4. I am not certain of the Jeeps AW4 changing.

Yup I can vouch for this, if a shift kit is in mind for the person asking the TransGo instructions are Extremely detailed and cover the different valve bodies used for different makes/models. So since you seem to have experience with the TransGo shift kits, give us some feedback on how you feel your AW-4 behaves once the shift kit was installed. I am considering one, and am curious as to the net results.
75sv1
I had the Standard one installed. I did not notice much difference. I also, had the HD one installed during a rebuild. It seems OK. I do get varying performance. Sometimes its a hard shift, other smooth. I am planning to replace the Torque converter to an Oregon Performance one. I am waiting till I get my mini Stroker done. Need to CC the combustion chambers to 58-60cc.
big66440
I liked mine, it really firmed up the shifts (you have options on how firm you can make the shifts)and it also lets the engine rev higher when you hold your foot in it, considering the cost I would recommend it.
