robfg67
I had factory tow hooks on my '88, but that was a long time ago. I see rugged ridge makes a kit for the XJ, but the listing says that it will not fit the MJ.
eaglescout526
XJ and MJ are the same. They will fit.
robfg67
I thought that was true, but just needed confirmation. Thanks

(meaning not any other Jeep like MJs, or KJs, or ZJs etc.)
robfg67
From the Quadratec site, it says that it will not fit the MJ.

If the manufacture makes it for the XJ, chances are they have forgotten the MJ existed. I mean after all there’s only 18,000 left on the road which is very very small market. But you gotta remember, the MJ is based on the front portion of the XJ from the bumper to the rear of the front door.
gogmorgo
I bought the rugged ridge tow hooks for the XJ about ten years ago. They definitely bolted to the front of my MJ.
JYau
If I remember correctly, installing them was not a simple bolt on. I had to drill a hole on the top of the bumper to feed one of the screws into the bracket and cut a slot out somewhere on the side of the bumper for clearance. I can get pictures if needed. mjeff87
Early model XJ/MJ hook brackets had the bumper bolting to them from the front. Later model XJ brackets bolted the bumper to them vertically, through the top of the bumper. That's probably why they say they don't fit an MJ. Like JYau says, it's no big deal, you just have to drill two holes in the top of the bumper.
dasbulliwagen
i never looked into the tow hook option, but i did add a front hitch that has two tow loops welded onto it in addition to the 2 inch receiver.
