Sub and amp questions

Recommended Posts

I’m electrically challenged guys. Hate to admit it, but I’m looking for help from more experienced people. I have a friend that is good with this stuff and he has been sending me links on how to choose an amp for subs and all this, but it just doesn’t compute in my head. Never has. Just makes frustration boil deep within and leads to more confusion. Maybe somebody here can point me in the right direction.
( I know what sketchy wiring looks like and am not going to burn down my truck per your advise, I’m good with making ugly, sketchy wiring pretty, and am capable of doing the work.  I just don’t know anything about any of this RMS and Ohms and bridging)

So basically I have this sub that I want to put in the truck. Know nothing about it or even if it works. I have seen the power light come on one time and that’s all I know.

Appears to have a built in Amp? Is that what this is?

Flip it over to the backside and find another sub? Am I seeing this correct?
Like a self contained amp/dual 10” sub box?

I am planning on installing Rockford Fosgate punch 4x6 speakers in the B pillars, Rockford Fosgate 5.25” door speakers and Rockford Tweeters as well.

I am not opposed to buying a new or different sub/box if this one doesn’t work out. Would like to stay with 8-10” range. Don’t need anything crazy.

I have this selection of amps to choose from,

The Kicker amps are different. FC2CD47F-9B7C-46D7-A26A-EBBE5AEC14EE.jpeg.95acbc1187183c7a94fd9f9710cdba37.jpeg5FCC94BA-30F3-4E8A-9239-6A59BB3F5842.jpeg.83f49b26796c180de5eb8c213624af7a.jpeg913F3858-17E2-47CF-AA1D-A7E1BFD27E94.jpeg.e6ff0acb32e564b650c2cece4c2e2b6f.jpeg

What would be my best bet as far as amps goes? Would the 2 kicker amps be able to power the 6 speakers and 1 sub?

Also wondering, I have a decent amount of 1/0 marine rated battery cable but it’s aluminum, do you think that would supply enough power to work? Is aluminum cable trash?

Any help or advise is appreciated. Keep it simple for me. Like kindergarten level. I’ve never gotten further in to audio stuff than installing a deck before and do not understand your electrical jargon. Thanks.

Probably just way over complicating this in my head. I don’t know.

I also dealt with a lot of uncertainty around picking out a sub/amp and ended up just throwing 6.5” round speakers in my back panels.  Plenty loud and powered with my 50 watt/channel head unit with no issues.

Ended up making brackets for them and selling them on my site (link in sig).

Assuming you already have a deck that can support a system, if not you need to start there. You just need something that has RCA pre outs to run amps. I'd suggest getting a deck that can support subs and a speaker amp, but depends how loud you want it. Could get away with a sub amp only but will need to adjust your eq so you just don't hear bass.  I have a 5ch amp with a 8" and it does well. Doesn't rattle any fillings loose but keeps enough for what I want.

This is the deck I run. I like it, it's a BT only so enough space to run everything.

That alpine is a powered sub. Should just need power, ground, remote turn on and RCAs. Amp is built in. If it doesn't work than you can use one of those amps. looking at the kicker there is a 2 ch (sub) and 4 ch (speakers). Alpine looks to be a solo and others can't tell. As for the sub simple way to put it is if you want better sign go with a 4ohm louder 2 ohm. Obviously dual voice coils and others things can change a lot but that's the simple way. If space is your concern look at a 5ch amp

I have this amp

Wiring is easy, not a lot to it. Just buy quality OFC wire. I used these guys. For the money great stuff

The Infinity Basslink you have has the amplifier built into it already.

You need a few things.

Power and ground wiring. I'll second Knukonceptz. For a 200w RMS amp like is integrated in the Basslink, 10AWG wire is sufficient, but you can run 8AWG if you want. Your ground wire is just as important as the power wire. Ground to clean metal only. Make sure to install a fuse as close to the battery as possible.

Remote turn on wire from head unit. A simple single wire to wake up the amp.

RCAs from the head unit.

That's it, enjoy!

rule of thumb,: if it has cooling fins, it's got an amp. :L:

Hmmm good to know. I use Crutchfield for all my stereo needs. I know this doesn't help you, but they have lifetime support and I used it often.
