Not charging

1988 Comanche. New battery, new cables, new alternator, still not charging battery. Voltage regulator maybe?

How is the serpentine belt, is it tight enough  or worn out.

Belt is new and tight.

I don't think so.

I'm stumped.

Maybe I got a bad alternator from AutoZone.

The HO has a couple alt fuses, plus one labelled ECM that protects the regulator circuitry. I’ve been burnt by that one before. But I don’t know how the Renix is set up.

Could it be the starter relay?

Did you do a cluster swap lately? How do you know it's not charging?

check your fuses. None of mine were blown,  but corrosion had built up on them to the point some were no longer conductive. I had the same problem as you and it was remedied by pulling all of them out and cleaning with a wire brush.

I think the 7.5a fuse was the culprit.

As I drive the gauge reads lower and lower, you can watch it drain. I checked the voltage before and after a drive and it was significantly lower.

And when I put the charger on it it reads 50%. I leave the trickle charger on it overnight, it reads 100%, I drive it and it drops again.

Have you put a dvom on it and seen what it is doing with the engine running? Have you tested the alt? Just because it's new doesn't mean it's good
