Whitaker717
Hi guys, my Comanche is at the dealership for the 6th time chasing this leak. I still think it’s the rear main after everything they have replaced. Now they are telling me I have to live with the leak or replace my engine due to some bearings being loose around the rear main. My question is will I have to live with this leak or are they full of it. I would like them to replace the rear main again to make sure. Any suggestions would be helpful. Muncher
Definitely full of it. Never go to a dealer. It's probaly the rear main and there just trying to avoid doing it.

I have had good luck with them.
Muncher
Yeah fel pros are the best. I'd do it your self if possible and see.
Pete M
if you get desperate, there's a double lip seal out there. but it took a few tries to get mine to stop leaking. only one was a damaged seal I stupidly installed anyways. the rest were leaks of the pan gasket next to the seal. take your time, use lots of sealant in the places it goes, and a quality oil pan rubber gasket, and let it all cure before starting the engine up. I tried the first one on my own. Got my old pan removed and new seal installed and I couldn’t get the new pan over the axle. First time ever I had to throw in the towel on a repair and call a tow truck to tow it to dealership. I was pretty disappointed.
Pete M
gotta jack up the truck and let the axle hang free. you can even pull the front tires if you can't get the truck high enough and let it sit on the rotors.

I will keep that in mind Pete. That was probably my problem. I don’t remember jacking it up. I didn’t think it was a hard job just dirty and time consuming. Pete M
yeah, ya gotta have a few inches of lift to get away with that. and even then it can be tight.

You don’t have to disconnect the axle or anything do you?
Pete M
I've read that the swaybar links might need to be undone if the truck is stock.
JeepSchmidt O'Guinness
An interesting approach to getting oil pan clearance. Your mileage may very.

Oil pan came right out. I've heard if you tilt it and smack it with a hammer. Haven't done the oil seal while the engine is in the vehicle.
