Does anyone use a docking station?

I use one at work.  I could snag a picture if you want the next time I'm in there, but honestly it looks just like a regular desktop "office" setup.  Just I plug my laptop into the dock instead of having an actual computer tucked away.  I have a wireless keyboard and mouse to keep the clutter down, but there's a printer, monitor, speakers, mic (sometimes) all plugged into the dock.

Do you want a M$Paint drawing?  I'm really good at those.  :roflmao:

Pete / Dirty -

I don't want to "see" anything. I'm doing a book on setting up a home office. I would like to get a good photo of a desk with a tablet or notebook computer connected to as many peripherals as possible using a docking station. Photos need to be fairly decent, with good contrast because they'll be converted to grey scale for the book.

Smokeyyank's first photo is pretty close to what I'm looking for -- except that the lighting makes it impossible to see the docking station.

If I remember tomorrow I'll see what I can do.

Yeah sorry my office isn't the best candidate for a photo opp.

I use one at work (government issue).  It is a giant pile of steaming crap.  The problem is the input (output), a mini B, cable is hyper-sensitive.  If you even breathe on it, it loses connection.....and then you lose your monitors, network connection (and network profile, and because of government cheapness, all of your work because it's saved on a network drive or 5).  Then you have to reboot everything, which takes a good 10 minutes if the planets are all aligned and you're wearing the right color underwear that day.  Can you tell how much I love the thing?

I've got it buried in a corner of my desk, surrounded by a lamp and other desktop paraphenelia so noone goes anywhere near it.  Worst part is that it's a Dell, and after I and several others in the agency complained to our IT overlords, they replaced them all with......another Dell.  That was just as bad as the first ones.

The Lenovo one I've been issued is rock solid.  It uses Thunderbolt USB-C.  I could see it being bad if it used one of the older USB standards.

3 different people use it, and if none of my cross shifts have broken it yet, so it must be pretty good.

I don't doubt there are good ones out there.  I used to use one on my home PC a few years ago, no issues.  Problem here is guv-mint procurement regulations....and these are what are available to us on our contract.  Don't Dell dude, just.....don't.

I get it.....I am actually a Procurement Officer (credentialed and all that jazz too, lol).  But there are exception processes, and due cause clauses for rebids/negotiations for various reasons....failure to perform is a biggie and right near the top of that list.  They're just too complacent to do anything about it.

Sorry.....I'm having a bad few days here at the salt mill and am in a cranky way lately.  To boot, my boss damn near burned down his (and everyone else's office) this morning on top of everything else.  Tried to reheat some pizza in the microwave in his office and set the timer for one hour instead of one minute and walked away.  I got to perform a ventilation mission with barrel fans from the warehouse after we evacuated the admin area.  And called to cancel the inbound fire department.  The entire place (and all of our clothing) STILL reeks of burnt food.

Also, since ultimately you're going to print in greyscale, this is what it would look like (mostly).

If I moved the box off the shelf it might have been better.  But you're getting what you paid for. :roflmao:

I like it. May I use it?

87MJTIM, yours is potentially interesting, too -- especially with the dual monitors. But the docking device isn't clear, so it doesn't illustrate the concept as well as DC's.

Thanks, Gents.
