Restoring rocker panel switches

Recommended Posts

I’m going to be installing my new rocker panels and switches soon, thanks to ghetdjc300. The first panel I purchased I ordered with new switches. Unfortunately from what I understand there aren’t anymore NOS switches available. So I’m going to need to try and restore the finish on two of my existing switches for the second panel. I’ve searched and didn’t find much other than to not paint them. I did find a post surfing the web about someone who had used trim polish and buffing cone on their vent covers. Seems like it may be the same material? Anyone successfully bring these faded things back?

I used Cerakote Trim Coat. I’ve used it on exterior plastic and has held up very well so I expect it to do well on the switches long term. Some before and after pics.

p.s. when they say use in a well ventilated area they’re not kidding, DO IT!!! Also make sure the coating is even when you’re done.

Looks like it came out pretty good. What kind of prep did you do?

That’s a nice option. You can also use a heat gun, blow torch or similar to ever so slightly “flame kiss” the plastic. It may sound odd but works well. Finally, @Dzimm was making replacement switch covers. Not sure if they are available yet or not though. I’m guessing that tail light housings has become the priority for now.

For the heat technique, there are a few YouTube videos of how to do that. Very common on guys with TJ flares

This is correct, I do have rebuild kits pretty close to done for the factory switches.  These include new switch faces and trims.  As mentioned I am quite busy with other stuff and just haven't gotten them wrapped up yet but they will be available rather soon.

😃

In the meantime I’m gonna give this a shot.
