JEEPMANED
I have this posted on FB but was told the Admins here can help. I purchased this project a couple years ago with bill of sale in Oregon....the guy selling it thought it was an Oregon vehicle. I've been driving it during the pandemic because the state offices gave an allowance for registration because of closures. So far I know it was registered and possibly first sold in San Francisco CA. and last record obtained shows passing emissions in SF in 1998. California is no help, as the purge their files after 6 years of no activity. Admins any help?

eaglescout526
I can’t see who owned it prior to you. You might be SOL with that MJ.
jdog
I have heard there are places out east that can get a title but don't quote me on it
acfortier
We can get it titled in MA with a prior registration, if you have it

Title does not require it to be registered or inspected, AFAIK. But either way, inspection comes last.
Dzimm
Is there a state close to you that does bonded titles? I just went through that process here in Iowa. All you need is a mailing address in that state for the owner of the truck, a bill of sale, some pictures of the truck, and purchase a bond. For a length of time someone with a title can say it's their truck but if you believe you rightfully own it you can go through the process. I would offer to do it for you in Iowa but I would have to put my name on it and it would put me liable for everything for the next 3 years even if I signed the title over to you so I would recommend you to look at states nearby that you could get a PO box and do it all in your name. jdog
Yeah in Colorado it requires a Vin inspection done by the state patrol
boxyjeep
Might be able to get it registered (but not titled in CT). They don't title vehicles over 20 years old, and there is no smog/inspection for that age either. But you can register pretty easily. After you get it registered there, bring the registration to CA to get it titled there. I'm going through this right now with a somewhat similar situation (but my truck IS in the CA system as of ~2019).
