Build date: September 1987

Recently purchased in upstate NY, currently on the road in upstate NY.

 

Just under 43,000 miles. Came with the original owner's manual and build sheet.

Super excited to have it! Going to baby it, drive it on the weekends and take it off the road during the winter. I'd like to keep it as close to original as possible, and would eventually like to get a nice paint job. Who knows though, maybe a small 2 or 3" lift with 31s in a few years.

I'm debating on replacing the grill and bezels, sideview mirrors and handles with chrome trim to give it that classic look. For now though, just flushing fluids and reading through cruiser's guide!

I would avails driving it in the winter at all costs. These trucks rust like crazy, especially if they are ever exposed to salt on the roads.

Yep, I would never forgive myself if it touched salt. Luckily it's not going to be my daily driver and I can store it away for the NY winters.

Glad to hear it. My blue truck is on 31s with a 3” lift and it is about the perfect stance. The build thread is in my sig if you need pics for reference.

Thank you! Does this mean it did not roll out of the factory with a catalytic converter? Trying to navigate NY laws and whether I can remove the one on the truck and straight pipe it.

it will have a cat, but it's a very simple system.  the O2 sensor is upstream of the cat so there isn't a way for the truck to actually monitor the cat. 

 

a functional cat doesn't affect power at all so there's no need to remove it.  but you wouldn't be the first that hollowed out a bad cat and reinstalled it.  but that makes it harder to pass the sniffer so... ymmv.

Gotcha I was under the impression it could improve performance albeit *slightly* by removing the cat. Nevermind then I guess I won't worry about it, thanks! Doubt I would've gotten away with it here anyhow

it's a persistent myth that probably stems from guys removing bad/clogged cats and finding a power boost.  but the factory designs them to not hamper anything. :L: 

 

now, if you added a turbo or stroker, I'd step up to a high-flow cat because then you'd then be exceeding the factory specs for airflow.
